You're welcome. I'm sure they don't call themselves a mafia, but there are those who agitate for single-column Bibles formatted into paragraphs. At least one of them is very influential. I think that format works fine for light reading, but I prefer verse divisions and narrow columns for study.

@@RGrantJones I know this is a year old but I have an earlier CBP Turquoise in Calfskin and I like it pretty well but am considering one with the newer Water Buffalo cover. I'm 67 and need the large print. I really like the ESV but nearly everything they produce is paragraph and it feels like all the words just run together. And I have a couple of really nice editions of the ESV but just can't read them because of that. So, I guess I'll be going back to the KJV since there are a plethora of verse by verse options! Thanks for you very comprehensive reviews! Also, do you know what reference suite is used in the Turquoise line? I've dug around trying to locate something on it but been unable to find anything. I'm curious as to how many references they say there are. Sorry, if I missed that already in your review.

Thanks for the comment, Michael! This was the first review I did that was fairly popular. I think CBP now uses wider paper, so the margins are a bit larger. They also print a red letter edition, so you have to be more careful when ordering.

Excellent review, I noticed that shine when I reviewed the new hand size "Turquoise" its very shiny paper. CBP sent me their little compact along with it for review,that paper is excellent and has zero shine, I'd love to see them use it more on other bibles. The price out weighs the little issues, ya just can't beat the value for the money, I love their bibles.

Dear Grant. I want to hank you for your reviews. They are perhaps best of them all out there. I want to buy bibles for my entire family and I even though I am not English speaking person I do fully recognise the rock-solid contribution of the KJV to the lives of all those who seek the Narrow Way leading to the Straight Gate of Life. Because there are so many versions and changes made to the original text/s - it is very important to have someone like you who diligently points the key aspects of these changes and so helps to make a decision bring those who listen out of this chaos and closer to the peace of God. Recently after discovering that one major bible publishing organisation prefers to serve the System instead of facilitating the purchase of their Bibles, I turned to your reviews again and selected this particular CBP Bible for my entire family. I thank God for your work without which I could have been deceived. May of Father in Heaven give you knowledge and lead you to even more diligent reviews on this mission to protect the purity and to overcome the wickedness of evil trying to pour lies and deception into the Word of God. In Truth and Peace. Akiva.

I wish you could also have a service dispatching bibles abroad (to Europe in my case) because it would complete the review and could reduce purchasing costs by cutting payments to big corporations such as DHL or UPS and others. These costs are of the rage of another bible and I would not mind to pay a percent of it to you and to a regular, perhaps national postoffice company, having saved the rest of money for yet another bible to give away to someone in need. Anyway, I am very glad to have found you because through you the Word of God will come to my family in the most faithful form available today among this bible chaos out there... May our Lord provide for you strength, health and resources to continue and grow this very important mission. In Truth and Peace Akiva

This was a very good thoughtful review. I also have the same CBP Turquoise. I have thought about getting the reprinting from Cambridge which I am sure may have print that is a little better and a less reflective page. However the CBP is so easy to read and the cover is so nice it is difficult to rationalize the very large increase in price of the Cambridge. The reflective pages are a drawback but not that much of a problem and for me easy to forget about. At least the CBP pages are strong and hold up very well to heavy use, writing, and highlighting.

Thanks for this review. Based on a few of your points I decided to go with the Vinyl Turquoise. It was only $12.00, the same text block and sewn. I also visited Local Church Bible Publishers and ordered a beautiful Red Calfskin text only, for $57.00 (180E1R Hand Size Text Red 1 Piece (Executive) I prefer LCBP, they seem to have fewer printing errors and binding issues, I.e. creased or folded pages.

I've seen a couple of reviews on the vinyl Turquoise. Excellent value. I hope you have better luck with LCBP than I did. I bought two of their Bibles about five years ago. One, a Cameo, has glossy paper, but the print is reasonably dark and uniform. In the other, an Old Scofield, some pages were printed nicely, but others looked bleached -- the characters were very faint. I kept the two Bibles and considered the purchase a donation to LCBP's ministry.

Hi brother got a question for ya.. Are you seeing any decay happening to the liner on any of your CBP bibles? I only own two which I purchased myself so I don't have a wide range to look at. The two I have are both CBP Thompson Chains made around the same time . One is a three piece cover the other is just like your Turquoise cover. Both of them are literally cracking and peeling away where the crease is at the inner joint. My 3 piece is worse its cracking where the additional stitching is cause it bends at that point too. Anyways I spoke too someone who has the same problem. My bibles have hardly been used so I'm guessing heavy used ones would be way worse. I'm really disappointed, that's a very short shelf life. Considering their new high prices I cannot recommend their synthetic liner bibles anymore . They have really shot up in price and IMHO they should be using a cheap cowhide or pigskin liner over that synthetic stuff. If you haven't used yours much ya might have to look at the liner in bright light. Mine has crackling everywhere and it starts to peal away.

@gypsylane8723 Hi Gyps 🙏 Yes , it's garbage material , I will never buy another one either. Whatever they are saving by using that stuff is not worth it to me as a customer. If I was reviewing still I'd definitely be sharing this opinion now that I know. With the price increase of their bibles I can no longer suggest buying their synthetic versions. For me it's a huge defect , 7 year shelf life with a bible that didn't even get used much. I have 60 to 70 year old bibles with non leather liners that look just fine . BUT I'd still prefer leather over man made esp that stuff on the CBP bibles.

First I want to say that I really appreciate the details that you give on your bible reviews. But I am writing this about Hebrews 2:16. I think if we look at the context of the whole paragraph it can be talking about nothing but the incarnation, even if you take the supplied words out. I just thought that I would mention that. I imagine you see that the paragraph is about that. Even if you think that verse 16 is about him helping humanity, as you mention some translations say, how did he help humanity? In the context he did it by becoming flesh and blood like us and being made like us in all things. And we see as well in Hebrews 4:15 that he was even tempted in all the ways that we are tempted, which includes being tempted from within by our fallen sinful nature (which of course he never gave into and always walked by his Father's Spirit which is holy). Thus he is able to comfort us that are temped as we see in Heb 2:18. Hebrews 4:15 For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin. Please forgive me if I am misunderstanding your point, but I've seen you mention this in several videos so I thought I would respond. Anyway I get the same meaning with our without the supplied words. God bless.

I really don’t see any major difference with that translation note of the word “slip” in Hebrews. Seems like splitting hairs, but I guess translators do exactly that. I rather like “to run out, like of a leaking vessel “ ? Gives it an additional connotation which I hadn’t considered.

What a great comparison between the three heavyweight kjv editions! Thank you for pointing out the subtleties of the italics and the references! I have a Canterbury and Longprimer, but after watching this I realize I need a Turquoise lol In your experience, would you say that other Cambridge editions are as true to the original kjv? I’m thinking specifically of the Concord since it’s probably the second best selling edition from Cambridge.

Thanks for that kind comment! I prefer to use two, a literal translation and a more interpretive one. For the more literal translation, I use the KJV, the RV, or the ASV most often, though I sometimes read the NKJV and NASB. The more interpretive translation is usually the RSV or NRSV, but sometimes I'll read the New English Bible or the Jerusalem Bible.

what does the abbreviation in the center Column of the King James Ch stand for,it gives a number & verse, it doesn't stand for Chronicles, You can see it on the page your showing, ch, below the Reference of Rom & Act's anyone know, I''ve not found an explanation anywhere. can't google it,
@RGrantJones
@RGrantJones 6 жыл бұрын
It's short for "chapter." When the reference occurs in the same book, the book title is omitted. So when they write "ch. 9.8" in the book of Hebrews, they're pointing you to Hebrews 9.8. What I see in the video is a marginal reference that relates to the phrase "the Holy Ghost saith" in Hebrews 3.7. That marginal reference points you to Acts 1.16, "which the Holy Ghost by the mouth of David spake," and to Hebrews chapter 9.8, "The Holy Ghost this signifying."

Readable or not. Grammar errors in God's Word? I read somewhere online that LCBP fixed issues in the turquoise. This shows me that they in fact have not. Ill stick to my digitally printed Nelsons. Cause thus far they have been grammatically correct without error. And no ink issues because it is digitally printed. Plus, the added bonus of 36gsm paper. Which is a pleasure to use compared to thinner stuff. I really want to support LCBP, but i am very much a perfectionist. And grammar issues bug me, and I just cant tolerate it in God's Word. Thank you for sharing.

I really appreciate your detailed reviews. They are certainly no-nonsence reviews. How were the older Bibles you're reviewing bound, paste vs. Smyth sewn? In general, the older iterations do not appear to be as well constructed as those of the Schuyler or Allan Bibles.
@RGrantJones
@RGrantJones 6 жыл бұрын
Glen - sorry, but I'm not sure which older Bibles you have in mind. In this video, all the Bibles are Smyth sewn. The CBP Turquoise and the Allan are edge-lined. The Canterbury and the Cameo use the paste-off (or paste down) method. In one video, I showed an Oxford Brevier Clarendon printed in 1904. It's sewn, with overcasting front and back. The text block is attached using the paste-off/paste-down method. I've thought about getting that one rebound because the print is so crisp. In another video I showed a pre-1929 American Standard Version Teacher's Edition. It's also sewn and paste-off, but it suffered some water damage at some point in its career, and the font is too small for me to use. But it serves as a nice reference.

I just got my turquoise based off this review (along with others, but mainly this one bc it details important issues) and the print doesn't seem as clear in my copy as it looks on camera. Wondering if the camera is making it appear crisper or if my copy just isn't as sharp. Also, the lining on the inside back cover doesn't go all the way to the spine (it's about quarter " from the spine at the bottom only). I emailed them, they said it's supposed to be like that? Not in any other Bibles I have from them (or lcbp, where they used to be) or, actually in the other 3 edges of this Bible. Any thoughts?
@RGrantJones
@RGrantJones 7 жыл бұрын
Regarding the print clarity, I don't think the camera enhanced it. My copy is just as you see it on the video. On the other issue, I see some separation between the lining in the front and the first end sheet, but it's more like an eighth of an inch. No problem in the back. When I ordered mine, I noticed that they had only a few copies in stock. Yours is probably from a later production run. My experience with LCBP wasn't very good, so I considered it something of a gamble when I ordered the Turquoise. One of my LCBP Bibles had some pages that were so faintly printed they were almost unreadable. I found another one -- their Notetaker -- disappointing, but not because of manufacturing quality issues.
@RGrantJones
@RGrantJones 6 жыл бұрын
I'm no expert on bindings. I'm much more interested in print quality issues. But regarding that gap, take a look at the fourth photo in the "Edge-Lined Binding" section of this article: www.bibledesignblog.com/blog/2012/06/cover-vs-cover.html .
