Church Offering Giving Talk: The Secret To Living Is Giving

In this "Giving Talk" on January 11, 2015 in the 11:00am service at First Baptist Raytown, I tell the congregation a story about a guy named Tony and his journey in giving.
Several years ago, Tony lived out in California and was struggling, financially. He came down to his last $19 and was trying to figure out a way he was going to be able to make it financially.
In order to be able to eat and get as much “bang for his buck” so-to-speak, he went down to one of those all-you-can-eat buffet places and loaded up plate after plate for a total of $6.
As he was finishing up his meal, he glanced over and noticed a young boy maybe 7-8 years old who was all dressed up in a little suit, and he was escorting his mom over to a table.
Tony walked over to the table and complimented the young man on what a young gentlemen he was and for taking his mom out to lunch. The young boy then acknowledged that he really didn’t have any money to be able to pay for their lunch.
In that moment, Tony told the boy, “yes, you are taking your mom to lunch,” and he reached into his pocket and gave that young boy his final $13 and walked out the door.
Tony recalled that in that moment he should have been freaking out because he was officially broke with not a dollar to his name. Instead, he literally flew home, because he felt free. Giving the last of his money to someone else did something inside of him. Add a result of giving to others, he felt wealthy inside.
Tony learned that “THE SECRET TO LIVING IS GIVING."
In Acts 20:35, the Apostle Paul recalls the words of Jesus when he said “It is more blessed to give than to receive."

I’ve been sick and seeing a functional medicine doctor that I pay a monthly membership bill for doctors appointments,nutritionist,plus therapy for the body that I pay out of my own pocket and my church still wants me to be giving them lots of $$$$$ even though I’ve explained to the elderly leaders that I got a lot of bills to pay. I even canceled my cell phone just to save some money which they found out about and still they keep telling me that well I need to “give” unfortunately lots of pastors don’t understand. I love my church but man these people should respect my situation that I’m going through and them calling me out on why I canceled my phone is embarrassing but hey I gotta do what I gotta do

Maybe that should have been a story about the collection that was been taken been used for other people in great need in our world, rather than wanting money from the people. There are millions of Christians in the world without the very basics!!

The secret to giving: mark 19:17 Proverbs 19:21. Bible tells how to properly give, it's not just to preachers and churches, they wont say this. There are poor out there, these preachers are not one... Malachi on tithes was speaking to priests stealing not the people. Pastors turn scriptures to serve them. He told a story about the poor and flipped it to giving to him and the church, that's what preachers do.
