Yet another great walk, I’m going to look for the video on the church

Gr8 film. Must visit Thakeham ASAP. Popped in to Warminghurst church just before Christmas. It is a beautiful medieval building which is well worth a visit. It is open most days as it is now looked after by the Churches Preservation Trust.

Great video Richard. You're definitely right about a bumper crop this year. Seen loads of baby conkers/acorns/berries already

I'm going to have to see if I can find that Wareninghurst vid - what a marvelous old church! Also Thakeham looked like a lovely old town & church (think I remember that vid but I may have to go back and watch it again😅). Yes I've been wondering if we are going to have a hard Winter - and an early Fall - this year. We have been noticing the leaves change colors here for the last couple of weeks. Usually we don't see that until around the last week of Sept. Also, they say a heavy mast means an early (and harder) Winter. We've noticed more nuts & berries in the tree, bushes & vines this year too!

Btw...look forward to that adventure down the path you ended on today. Wow! Can really tell there what high winds you have been having!!!

I know that area like the back of my hand. I lived in Gate Cottage in Thakeham as a kid for the first forty years of my life. I have walked over all the fields in the area. My dad was the estate maintenance man for SH & D Aggs, who used to own Thakeham Place Farm. The field by the track that goes across to Thakeham where Richard is standing,used to be full of raspberry’s. Behind it is Manor Buildings and next to it a large house stood which belonged to William Penn, who was a Quaker. Many a story I could tell.

Whenever I am now walking through town or country and I pick up a steady pace Richard’s theme tune comes into my head!! Does anyone else experience this? Didn’t people used to make ‘coffee’ from roasted acorns? Another joyful video from the home country. Thanks.

Acorn coffee sounds fantastic - i think. :) Thanks so much for watching.

Ah, Warminghurst Church is just so beautiful. Redolent of what's gone before, and the box pews /triple decker pulpit!! Do hope folks go and have a look for themselves. Acorn Coffee, Richard? May be worth a try for your Americano 🙂

I wouldn't eat any acorns George - they may give stomach cramps! :)

When you mentioned Martin Snow,I thought yes we haven’t seen him or the lovely Cynthia Julienne for some time!! Then a Cameo shot of Cynthia and Echo! As for acorns filling you up,they gave boiled grass to the inmates of the Gulag! They couldn’t digest it but it helped make less room for the other slops they got to eat!!

Seeing the corn fields in your videos and when I'm out and about reminds me of the " Maize Mazes " which seemed so popular all round the country a few years ago when our daughter was younger . Do you remember them , & are there still any ? I have not seen them for a long time .
@RichardVobes5 жыл бұрын
I think they seem to be popular at Halloween for some reason - probably because they are harvest around that time.
@richm28355 жыл бұрын
@@RichardVobes It was usually during the school Summer holidays when we visited them in the past , there do still seem to be a few dotted about when I had a look . Probably we noticed them advertised more in the past as we were looking for something to entertain a child ( and me)

Richard Vobes - there’s a maize maze just north of Horsham and one at Tulley’s farm close to turner’s hill - they are very popular!

Very lovely video. All this talking of nuts; have you ever foraged for hazel nuts / chestnuts etc? Might make a fun video. Also, I googled acorn recipes and the woodland Trust had 5 different ones to try!

Very nice Richard. Do you sometimes find it difficult to follow footpaths, or do you carry an OS map ? Then again I suppose a lot of people use their phone to navigate.

Lovely churches. BUT I implore you not to walk through fields of dense crops. Some years ago I lost a spaniel (and it could have been me), who fell into an uncovered drain in a field of wheat. Had to use ladders to recover his body a month later. Still haunts me.
@RichardVobes5 жыл бұрын
Golly - that does sound awful. I wouldn't stray off the path in a field of crops anyway.
