I think Mirabel didn't get a power as she's the next "candle keeper" after the Abuela eventually passes. The emotional anchor of the family. Abuela doesn't have a gift either.
@rebeccagibbs41282 жыл бұрын
yes, the miracle wasn't for Abuela, it was for her family and her community- she held too tightly to the candle, believing the miracle was a reflection of her worthiness to have been given it in the first place. When Mirabel didn't get a gift, Abuela should have seen that she was the next successor, and taken her under her wing- instead Abuela othered and minimized Mirabel and her place in the family. The miracle was dying because it needed Mirabel to take Abuela's place and Abuela to see. Thats also why Mirabel has glasses- that are green like bruno's colour- because she is the one who is able to see perspective Abuela can't (until the end of the film). I love this film has no Antagonist- just the hurt and division we sow ourselves in our families.
@acanimatics9062 жыл бұрын
@@rebeccagibbs4128 I agree! It's honestly such a breath of fresh air. I went into the movie expecting an evil rat man stealing the family's magic and camillo turning out to be a traitor helping him because of an out of context scene on tiktok. Needless to say I was pleasantly suprised! I love this movie. It's become a comfort film to me already. There's no unnecessary plot twists, characters having to get to know each other for the first time and not to mention drama that's dependent on shock value taking up over half the film. And yet there's conflict, interesting character dynamics and depth. It just so easily rewatchable, I'm watching all the reaction vid's I can find. Maybe it's because of my adhd but I swear it's like a quick shot of serotonin/dopamine? (I forgot) in contrast to other movies that seem to drag on forever to get to the good part which won't be as statisfying the second time anymore. Idk does it makes sense???? Anyway I love the movie, I need more no real antagonist stories from Disney. Love that they're slowly incorporating more cultures into their movies and shows. Extremely unlikely but fingers crossed for a middle eastern character at some point in my life time haha.

@@acanimatics906 yes, as for the middle eastern character, i wonder if that will happen any time soon, considering America's tense politics being bedfellows with the hollywood machine- might not be considered "commercial enough" which is bollocks. I loved Persepolis and waltz with Bashir but would be amazing to have a middle eastern story that got Disney's reach. I was blessed with Moana a few years back for my little brown skinned Māori children to see someone like them be a hero and snippets of our ancient culture displayed up there. I'm from Colombia and I cried since the first minute when I saw all the details about my country. Everything was so accurate: the clothes, the food, the music, the animals, the plants... I loved it! They even included a real fact: forced migration. Abuela's story is the story of thousands of colombians, who had to leave their villages because of violence. Disney made an excellent work representing Colombia in this film! 🇨🇴
@ronweber14022 жыл бұрын
The first time Abuela describes losing Abuelo is fairly sanitized but when she retells it by the river to Mirabel, well, I don't think I have ever seen Disney depict such abject raw grief.
@milo_thatch_incarnate2 жыл бұрын
I think what's different about this Disney movie is that it starts out where most Disney movies END. In the past, the whole _point_ of the Disney movie would BE Mirabel "discovering" that she doesn't need a gift to be special. But in this movie, she starts out already knowing that. So, what could be wrong? Well, it turns out the _positivity_ is wrong. Everything is cracking, and because everyone in the family knows they have to be positive, helpful, serving, and... _perfect,_ no one addresses the generational trauma. That's _SO much deeper_ than most of the messages of Disney's recent movies. They've all been obvious from the first ten minutes. Not this one. My family is healthy now, thank God, but for most of my childhood and teens, we were very much a "perfect on the outside" family, and we all felt the pressure of maintaining that image. My older sister couldn't handle it, so she rebelled and left, and when that was swept under the rug, *_*I*_* was swept into the position of the oldest sister. "Surface Pressure" and the plight of the two oldest daughters are so relatable to me: feeling like I had to hold everyone together by being the perfect and good and strong and Right daughter my parents needed. MAN, this movie got me. AND DISNEY GOT THEIR MAGIC BACK. I CAN'T BELIEVE IT.
@karendelgado66122 жыл бұрын
What you said its totally tru now i see that because my family was cracking i got to hold myself in a hard sotuaciòn and after all that happen i get a really strong depresión because i held too much a lot of feeling i should have let go before.
@pompe2213 ай бұрын
I've seen a lot of people online asking if Abuela is "the villain." IMO, she's only the antagonist at worst. The real villain is generational trauma. That's why for me the real turnaround point for Abuela isn't where she tells Mirabel the whole story of how Pedro died. It's when everyone in town came to help rebuild Casita. Abuela has spent 50 years being afraid of her own neighbors because in a civil war, that's who turns on you. She's already seen it happen, already experienced it. All the pressure she's put on her family to be helpful and look perfect from the outside was to protect the family from having neighbors turned against them (again.) But now Abuela can finally see that she doesn't have to be afraid anymore and she never had to be in the first place.

Her songs and character really spoke for how I grew up undiagnosed autistic and adhd, shunned and treated like a failure while everyone around me seemed to be so effortlessly successful. what’s really nice about the movie’s ending is that mirabel doesnt get receive a power like the others, but she also doesn’t stay ordinary either. i view it as she had her powers all along which are to mend the family and bring them together. they just never realized until the end when Mirabel puts the doorknob on and the front door becomes hers.
@ackruhii322 жыл бұрын
so i think Pedro sacrificing himself was for the sake of the family living on, they would be together as he wished. The family being together as one to work together powers the candle with love I think, thats why the flame went out when Abuela and Mirabel argued, but the candle glowed when Isabella and Mirabel hugged. Now that Mirabel was finally accepted the candle and casita was able to heal. Mirabel also has both of her parents characteristics, she's accident prone when she means good like her dad, but is healing and comforting like her mother. Mirabel being accepted brought the candle back to life as well as the family bonding through this. Mirabel never got her powers because her name is Mirabel, sounding like Miracle. The family wants to protect the Miracle and Mirabel is just the person to do that, so fate wants her to follow a path different from the family so she'd know in the future, when she is the candle holder like her abuela was, she'd understand no matter how different you are in the family you're always loved and accepted.
@pompe2213 ай бұрын
Yup, I'm convinced Mirable is the new Guardian of the Miracle, like Abuela was with the candle. Except now it's in the form of Casita instead of the candle.

the reason is, she herself is the gift. She is special by being herself. She doesn't need extra power to be valid and loved. Luisa also lost her power because to her it was a burden pushing her down.
@ZelinkSupporter8 ай бұрын
The reason Isabella is Abuela's favorite is that Isabella looks *exactly* like Abuela when she was young. Also, the man that Isabella was betrothed to looks a lot like Abuela's late husband. She's literally trying to live her definition of a "perfect life" through Isabella
@thayslima63002 жыл бұрын
Mirabel does have a gift. This is shown during the film in scenes where she and the house interact with each other. Mirabel was the only person who saw the cracks when they started because she was the only one able to save the magic and the house knew it, so when it started to crumble she made one last effort to protect Mirabel before she completely lost the magic. Mirabel's door didn't glow simply because that wasn't her door but the door to the house. The proof of this is that when she put the doorknob on the door, the house's magic returned. In short, Mirabel is the magic of the house. After the candle snuffed out the magic of the house is gone then it's like Mirabel is the "new candle"
@rebeccagibbs41282 жыл бұрын
yes, Mirabels gift is to be the thread that keeps the family and casita together- its represented in all the hand made touches she does in her costume and crafts
@JMac73952 жыл бұрын
Actually the house interacted with everyone. It responds to the grandmother's commands. It poured coffee for the entire family in mornings. It becomes Luisa's treadmill during her workouts. We see Mirabel interacting with the house more because the story primarily follows her around. Also Luisa admitted to Mirabel that she had seen the cracks. I think all the family members, with powers, had always seen the cracks but stayed silent because the grandmother stayed silent. Even Bruno, who was living in the walls, had seen the cracks. I think the house showing Mirabel the cracks was a last ditch effort in saving itself. But I do agree that Mirabel was next in line to be the keeper of the house & candle like the grandmother

I believe Mirabel didn’t get a gift because she’s supposed to represent neurodivergent people. As someone who is part of the Neurodivergent community, I relate to Mirabel a lot. If she had gotten a gift at the end, it would’ve defeated the purpose of her character. I think it’s a great message for Disney to be pushing. You don’t need a gift to be special, and that’s the point they’re trying to make.
@Hunlover1236012 жыл бұрын
her gift is being the center, the holder and keeper of the house, she holds mo magic other than the magic all of us have purely for the fact that we live ❤️❤️❤️ i related to her so much. just like abuela she has no specific magical gift

I think a few of her family members can also represent lgbtq people in very traditional/conservative families. This is why I am so happy they didn't give Isabella a love interest (it was planned for her to marry a dork but was dropped). There is very little ace or aro representation, especially for really pretty characters. (It was probably not what was intended but I gotta take what I can!) Bruno also shows a lot of neurodivergent qualities and has a strong "forcibly in the closet" vibe (no joke intended).
@IChooseJesus90912 жыл бұрын
1st Let me say that I think Mirabel was already gifted & sweet when we were 1st introduced to her. She has a gift with children, singing & dancing, & playing the accordion, & she helps others bring out what's buried deep inside them. But if you watch closely, when she puts her hands on the candle to pledge to use her gift to honor the family, she wipes her hands on her dress right before she grabs the doorknob, wiping the magic off onto herself. So instead of getting her own door, her own room, her own "gift" they way everyone else did, she became the embodiment of the candle. And the house was reacting to her. When she got distressed, the house cracked. When she lost all hope, the candle died out completely. And when everything was rebuilt, & everyone got their gifts back, it was without the original candle...And she will also take Abuela's place being the "candle keeper", except she is the candle in living breathing form.
