It's quite typical of Chvrches tracks to have quite dark, deep lyrics that are a surprise because of how up tempo and up beat the music is. Their latest album is really fantastic with How Not To Drown being one of the best new tracks i heard all year.

Love a bit of synth pop, it's clear they were very influenced by Depeche Mode with this one, not a bad thing though DM are great.

She's wearing armor in the early parts of the video. That's when she appears to be protecting herself. Then she dramatically sheds her armor and allows herself to become vunerable and the rave elements take over. Yet she's still seen wearing armor after that, indicating a certain level of wariness. That's my take on it anyway.

Second half of the song: she’s saying “shaped by clearest blue” (which can symbolize a lot of things like you eluded to) as well as “will you keep it halfway”. Another song you should check out by them is called Asking for a Friend, off their most recent record. Similar to this one with a churning buildup, but a little more chill in the earlier parts and more complete overall IMO.

This song is from their 2nd album. Good stuff. If you like it, be sure to check out their 4th album “Screen Violence” and stand out tracks “how not to drown” ft Robert Smith from The Cure and “final girl”. It’s their best work. Cheers!
