It is fact as there are countries whose governments have only gotten better over time (not perfect, better) (and obviously there have been steps that have worsened the state of things). BTW: people who stumble upon this comment should look into liquid democracy. The opportunities offered by the technology and knowledge of today vastly exceed those at the dawn of representative democracy. When new systems of governance emerge there is a chance they they will be better (e.g. at the dawn of democracy information - which could represent feedback - needed to be delivered on foot - ignoring the telegraph and smoke signaling. Furthermore, access to knowledge and tools of communication - once, almost unimaginable - allows most (though it should be all) in a system with a proper infrastructure to educate themselves and monitor the state of the world at large; current systems do not take this into account as they are based on principles deduced in and for a time where this was not the case and this - today (and I'm simply guessing here) - can lead to e.g. apathy (because there is a huge discrepancy between the knowledge of an agent in the system and their ability to apply that knowledge in a meaningful way)).

I am 51 now. From NZ. I have been hearing about things like this done by the CIA since I was a kid. Vietnam, Laos, Latin America, Afghanistan etc. Huge numbers murdered. At the least, the CIA should be disbanded and its intelligence functions divided among several smaller and more accountable organizations. How must Americans feel knowing these things are done in their name with their taxes? My wife was German, but raised in NZ since she was six. She used to hide it and anglicize her name etc. A few times she broke down in tears at things on TV saying she hated being German. If organizations like the CIA continue, then that's how Americans are going to feel once all the truth is laid bare. The death toll since WWII is extremely high. Probably over a million when accounting for things like the Phoenix Program in Vietnam etc. Death caused by US foreign policy is definitely multiple millions if we account for collateral damage and even more if we account for effects of sanctions etc. I have seen studies try to tally up the toll. Their estimates range from several millions to tens of millions, with the higher estimates adding the effects sanctions et cetera to the death toll caused by weapons. That must feel awful to those who know about it. I'd be tempted to be like the guy on the Matrix who wanted to be plugged back into that virtual world with a cushy life unaware of reality.

'Probably over a million' is a very conservative estimate. The CIA led killings in Indonesia account for that much alone. The death toll as a result of post WWII US foreign policy is debated and depends on what is counted as American caused deaths, but the lowest body count I have seen is around five million. Just Korea and south east Asia can account for that. Latin America and the Middle East is millions more. The USA will end up with no conscience and twisting reality in denial and justifications etc. But amongst its people ever more Americans will end up despising their own country as the truth becomes more widely known. A healthy society can not possibly result from that as long as the killing continues. That past can not be changed, but the future can, so Americans do not have to live with shame of knowing so much murder and collateral damage et cetera is being done in their name. That is up to Americans to get done. The boss of the world imperial mindset needs to be ended, plus the world's knight in shining amour justifications for war etc. The USA needs to be just a nation among many and stop trying to be the overlord of Earth that is above international law etc. I see that sentiment is gaining traction in the USA among regular people, but the elites still deeply believe in American exceptionalism etc. They are open about it. Those people should not have power.

The solution is for the USA to become 25 different states which have their own independent domestic and foreign policy. This way, blue states can have reproductive rights of abortion while red states can ban the murder of babies who are not yet born. Texas and California being separate, New York and New Jersey being one country. That way, they will be more diplomatic and peaceful like the EU instead of an empire. They will have a large navy to secure global shipping, but they can never conquer a nation together.

Amnesty was a wise move but as an Afghan, I think that amnesty should have been specific amnesty, not general amnesty for everyone. People like the Masoods, Dostum,Noor, Saleh, Fauzia Koofi, 0 UNITS, KPF, those who gave orders in the ex-ANDSF/militias, the ex-MP rapists and criminals etc must not get amnesty...they must face the punishment for their crimes. Taliban gave all ex-regime soldiers who surrendered new clothes, money and transport home, and they mow live in peace as one. Then, u get those ex-ANDSF who are lying that they are being hunted by Taliban because they want visas
