Absolutely beautiful soap!! 😍Thank you for sharing this, as it is such a great alternative to regular confetti soap. I did want to mention for anyone who watched this that it is not necessary to have the lye and oil within ten degrees of each other. Of course, if the lye is much colder than the oils, that can cause false trace. And if the lye is hotter than the oils, that can speed up trace a bit. But lots of people believe there is some "rule" about having them within 10 degrees of each other, and that's just not true.

Thanks. No lye and oils don’t have to be within 10° but in my 14 years of making soap I’ve found that when they are you have the least amount of other issues to worry about :) And for a new soap maker it’s a good place to start. With this particular recipe the temps within 10° of each other helps prevent a false trace!

At about my fourth batch of soap, I realized that I had a whole lot of “shred”. I didn’t know about this method. I threw together my recipe, and then threw in my shreds. Forgot that that would double or triple my batch. I was really scrambling to find enough “molds” to put it in. Thankfully, I’m a great hoarder so I had all kinds of plastic trays to put it in. Turned out really well. I was really pleased with it. Thank you for this video.

Thank you! It’s a tea strainer! I got mine on Amazon: OXO BREW Twisting Tea Ball Infuser www.amazon.com/dp/B008H2JMFW/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_Z8R6VECS7R2S7H73QR72. The flowers are made with a cookie cutter and impression mat mold from Sugar Blossom Art (which is closing their business and doesn’t have any left). If you search the company name and “petunia” on Amazon or online I’ve seen some knock offs and a few companies with some sets left that they were selling.

Just saw this ......... Adjusting the batch size to use different amounts of shreds is very easy w/ soap calc. Put your regular recipe, without shreds, into soap calc and find the "Soap weight before CP cure or HP cook". Once you decide on the weight of your shreds, just subtract that from the "Soap weight before ..." (NOT from the weight of the oils). The remainder will the the soap weight (NOT oil weight) of the new batch you will add the shreds to. In your example, a 2.5# batch requires ~28 oz of oils and has a soap weight in ounces of 38.98 or 39 oz and using 8.4 oz of shreds: 39 oz minus 8.4 oz =30.6 oz of soap weight (not oils) for your new batch to which you will add the shreds. Plugging a few different oil amounts into your soap calc recipe and recalculating, you can easily find the correct amount of oils to give you approx 30.6 oz soap weight (which=22 oz oils). Thank you so much for this video. I LOVE the soaps! I had never heard of this method. Beautiful color and the flowers look wonderful. Would love to see a video on making them.

You know I just realized that I put avocado butter in stead of avocado OIL in the lye calculator. So, what I would recommend is using Avocado Oil. If you don't have that you can use another oil like apricot oil, or you could just increase the amount of sweet almond or sunflower oil! Just run it through a lye calculator with the oil change. I ran this through the calculator with Avocado OIL in stead of butter and the amount of lye you'll need is the same so you can just sub the oil for the butter if you use avocado oil!

Thank you for sharing this! I’m in need of a no waste solution. My question about recalculating is; so let’s say we went from 28 Oz to 22oz; doesn’t that make the % of soap shreds go above 30? So then do I need to recalculate the amount of soap shreds that I use or keep it the same? I hope I’m making sense 😂 Thanks again! 😊

If you have 22 oz of oil in your recipe then yes you need to calculate the new % of shreds. You will take your batch size and the amount of oils that comprise that soap and multiple it by the % of shreds you want to you. So, if you're using 22oz of oil and you want 30% shreds then you would take 22oz x 30% = TOTAL AMOUNT OF SHREDS

If you're calculating a batch size and using my cheat sheet it's just telling you the total weight of oils you'll need. You need to run it through a calculator to determine the water and lye.

You do need lye. You are still making a batch of cold process soap from scratch, you're just adding some already made soap to the new batch. This is definitely an advanced technique and I don't recommend it if you haven't got a good grasp on the basics!
