Adam Cianciarulo is out for the rest of Monster Energy AMA Supercross with a knee injury. He already had a shoulder injury, too .This is bad news for him, bad news for us, and bad news for us knowing it's bad news for him. We know that Adam cares, and that's why we like him, and that's why this injury hurts even more. Jason Weigandt explores this story.

I'm bummed because it was so avoidable. Turn a shoulder separation into an ACL repair. I don't think he should have been racing. He was clearly compromised out there. If you have such low strength where you have to slow down that much and can barely lift your arm, you are super vulnerable to make more mistakes and get hurt and that's exactly what happened. Turning one bad thing into two and making it much worse. I get there are probably pressures to be there but you have to ultimately make the correct decision. It bummed me out to hear Steve say that Nick Wey said it wasn't because of the shoulder, that is such crap and maybe he's saying that because he was pushing for AC to be out there? But if you can't admit that's what happened then it's going to keep happening and he's probably not a good advisor. Same thing happened in outdoors, he was riding around with a numb hand until he crashed because of it.. that could have resulted in more injury but luckily didn't.. that time. Knowing when to stop and recover is an investment into your future. I know things happen in racing and anyone can crash any time, but racing when you're THAT compromised when you can't even hang on is just a stupid move, it's inevitable there will be crashes and now look, he's missing 16 rounds, another season gone. Nick Wey denying it was because of his shoulder tells me the people in AC's corner might not be helping him at all. At least learn from your mistake.

It's probably appropriate that we THANK YOU ADAM for going out there and doing what he could he most likely didn't so much need the money or the practice or anything like that (contract year stuff etc. beyond the scope of this comment) I believe that he got on his bike and went out there because he genuinely loves to ride and race his dirtbike and would rather be out there than sit and watch and some of the pressure to be out there probably came from the same people complaining he shouldn't be out there "The Spectators" . I'm sure there are a lot of riders out there on the track with something that causes them to not be 100% be it health or fitness even mental at any given moment ..... this is a hard sport and it takes a tough person to get out there and do it at all much less professionally where a lot of eyes are on you critiquing every move. So I'm going to say Thanks Adam for giving it your all. and to all the racers and even us weekend warriors that get out on the weekend and give it your all THANK YOU as this is the motorsport called Motocross/Supercross 👍

Hi, I'm "that guy", that guy that doesnt care for Cianciarulo. Not so much for anything he did but rather the media constantly talking about how many championships he was going to win before he even won anything at the pro level. Is the shoulder injury the same shoulder he dislocated years ago and then started riding again before it totally healed up? You can't do that with dislocations, you just permanently mess it up if you go back too soon.

I had to have 8 anchors to fix my AC joint, and labrum and rotator cuff fixed in my other shoulder from the same crash. I doubled up lol. The AC joint was the most painful and had no strength, my labrum felt okay until it would be put in the wrong position and cause it to dislocate.. and the rotator cuff made it painful to lift that arm high enough yo worry about my shoulder popping out frim my labrum issue. For the most part with riding the labrum and rotator cuff didn't cause much issue, my AC joint did however.... I sure as hell wouldn't be on a 450 (or 250 for that matter) riding supercross, mellow arenacross was too much for me and there was no way those tears were going to heal themselves... his is supposedly worse than mine was so I don't get how they said a few rounds in and he'd be fine, tears in the ligaments that hold the shoulder up to the clavicle don't heal without surgery and having anchors put in. My only thought was they're trying to build more muscle around the shoulder to compensate but idk. He could of had surgery and been back in a few months but now he needs an ACl repair, knees aren't as bad as shoulders due to less movement compared to a shoulder, but he could of had the AC joint fixed and not had this knee problem. Long term AC joint isn't a big deal compared to labrum or ACL, it doesn't mess with movement and it doesn't hold the shoulder in its socket like the labrum does, it just holds the shoulder up to the clavical...I thought my collarbone was broke because the clavicle was sticking up but that was because my shoulder was sagging down a few 'MM'. I'm having my 3rd labrum repair tomorrow actually, it just randomly popped out and re tore again so I need the tear fixed like previously and something else done to fix the instability so hopefully it won't randomly pop out again and tear for a 4th time.. if it does then they'll have to put a piece of bone around it to make sure it can't pop out again, I wish they'd just do that so i dont have to worry about it again, but they have to go in stages.. Luckily this one works for 90% of people with shoulder instability so we'll see in a few months to a year if it's going to work or not. I imagine he'll have both his ACL and AC joint fixed at the same time, which is going to really suck but worth it in the long run.

They’re all raised at the test track, but everyone is just looking at lap times and not watching for technique. You can get away with that on mini bikes, which is why Kawi amateurs have so much success. But when you get on big bikes lacking the knowledge of how to ride it correctly, you’re getting hurt. It takes more than speed to win a races and ultimately a championship. Winners figure out where the line is between fast, and too fast. AC hasn't figured that out, and he's running out of time and health. For example Tomac was like that, until he shredded both shoulders one time. After that he lost his blazing, lap-the-whole-pack speed. I think intentionally. He found the line and seems to know exactly where it is. The same can be said of other champs like RV, RD etc. AC keeps having these crashes that are significant enough to cause injury. Maybe he's just fragile, some guys bodies are just like that. But maybe he needs to just back it off a bit. And I agree with all the other comments below - he shouldn't have been racing with the shoulder separation.

The argument for who is an “A” or “B” rider isn’t by vote, or by observation. The argument stems from “do factories give more/better parts or options for the faster/more winningest rider?” You can say no, and that teams “put their best riders out there to beat opposing team riders like you stated. The answer isn’t does Kawasaki identify Adam or Jason as the A rider to beat themselves, the question is does Kawasaki give better parts and components over one rider so they can go out and beat Webb? We (fans) have heard countless stories over the decades that would prove otherwise that indeed manufacturers give better motors, suspension and chassis to who they have that will win.

I feel for AC. He is no doubt a great rider. But the truth is in the Moto, guys get hurt every year. When you are a kid, you have no memory of getting hurt. But at this level, injuries effect a person in different ways. Getting the play by play on Kenny Roczen, and his injury a few years back...why would anyone want to ride after seeing that? I had an extremely slow accident where I smashed my face in wearing a JT ALS-1 helmet. I almost died. But I went out the second day after I got out of the hospital after 3 weeks, just to see if I could ride to my potential. I was scared whitless!!! Never rode the same on a track

Young by age. Old by racing. This is what raced hard and put away wet results in. Raced to death when they're young.

A/C is who we thought he was injury or no injury. If A/C didn't have that major growth spurt he'd still be racing. A/C was a top 7 rider period. Bring it.

AC should try to get up in the booth with Ricky while he is out so he can get his foot in the door with NBC to be an announcer. Maybe he can get some good experience this season for when he is hurt and out for the next 2 or 3 years of his career since he seems to be made of glass always has been

On an interesting note if you pay attention you’ll notice Jason Wigand says when you are hurt you have to tell yourself that there’s more important things in life than racing the very fact that he uses the word tell yourself rather than remind yourself because when he uses the word tell yourself that phrase implies that you have to lie to yourself you have to convince yourself of an untruth in the very fact that his mind sees it that way shows you that when you are too close to the forest you can’t see through the trees and no matter how much you think your normal if you hang around with people who are obsessed with money and status it works its way into your mind and fuck you up For every person out there who wishes you were on the inside of the industry take it from me I know…It’s not what you think it is I had to learn the hard way

AC has talent...but many Woulda Coulda Shoulda Non Champions are in MX/SX History books... Talent can be ruined by Injuries or Bad Luck...sadly He seems Capable and is Fast Starting....but you gotta Finish consistently...and lately Injuries are killing the Talent .... WEAR PROTECTIVE GEAR prevents upper body injuries

Historically by round three we usually have an understanding of who the guy or the guys are going to be throughout the year, usually that's because their mindset of understanding they are "the guy" and being the guy, for example Tomac has the red plate right now but do you really believe tomac thinks he is the guy, the championship leader at this point? No of course not, that Confidence level is not there yet for anybody, I really believe it's going to take until round 6 or so before we start really seeing that consistency and that mindset.

tbh it’s no surprise… AC and Forkner have the same career going for them. Amateur superstar… turn pro and stay hurt… AC got one title outdoors and Forkner still trying to get one. I see Forkner getting AC 450 ride and be with Anderson. AC wil move to Honda. will Kawi keep him if he keeps getting hurt every year???

Don't see much of a future for AC in the pro MX/SX game...not as a racer anyway. Sounds like he'd be smart to get a support member position on a team of some sort or he will end up in a wheel chair. Don't know if it is his riding or his body that is the main problem but obviously something needs to change.
