Dear Mike, Just caught the video, and wanted to thank you for sharing. I appreciate the kiss approach especially for someone with no music background, I cannot wait to try. Thanks again

Thanks Mike, Built myself a 3 string fretless but no idea how to play. With a heap of practice, this vid will go a long ways to appease the other half as to why I spent time building a CBG when I can't play one! Thanks a mill.... "Increase the Peace"

Mike thanks so much for teaching an ez way to make nice sounding blues and have a lot of fun doing it. I recently bought a 4 string cigar box guitar to play slude and blues. Your tutorial is the best that I've ever seen for both enthusiasm and ease of learning. Thanks so much man. I'll be writing and playing my own stuff today. CBGs are the coolest guitars. Your smile and enthusiasm are contagious man. Thx again.

Hey, man! Greetings from Romania! Just wanted to say that you've inspired me to modify a bit my banjo-guitar to a 3 stringer and start picking away. It's not the same sound, of course, but it's working for me. Thanks for the tutorials as well. Cheers!

This is just what I need, thanks for posting! But at this point in time, I just got done finishing my cigar box guitar but they sent one wrong tuner so I'm practicing with only 2 strings!! I know there is a 1 string and a 3 and 4 string but not sure about 2! It should be coming this week though. :) In the mean time I'm doing my best with the two G strings. Funny. And really! Ossi Osborne?!?! That had to be fun. :)

Hey Mike, that's sounds awesome! Who needs 6 strings? Less is more. And your amplified tone sounds superb, too. No wonder that Keith Richard discarded his 6th string for his open-G tuning. There's a place in New Jersey that offers classes for making both cigar box guitars and small, working amps and I'd be interested in both. What great sound from a simple, no-nonsense instrument. I'm definitely impressed! Thanks and God Bless!

You make it so pro sounding and yet so seemingly doable even for a non musician as myself. Thank you Mike After a lot of local shops and web based research, by coincidence just bought my first basic parts today for a CBG, and then found your video. Big score today is two perfect sized, finger jointed all wood CBs. If you don't mind, what kind if pick up does the CBG have your playing in this video? Thanks again, logan,

Hi Mike, Great stuff. I notice your fretboard only has 17 frets instead of 22?! Is it designed as a shortened guitar - similar to a Baritone uke? I've been building cigar box ukes and want to go onto guitars - Thanks - Lost John

I got thinking of making a Diddley Bo -Just happen to see Jack and Ozzy P.O.D. ,shadowing your basement on their show what a lifetime memory that would be - even sold him one very cool , I worked in the Dj /Nightclub service and happen to have Robert Plant at my shooter bar some other big names too but ya once in a lifetime ,Thinking of using a neck from a 5 string I have , or do you think that size of neck is goofy --I play clawhammer like the 5th but what about the truss rod in a cigar box ?

@MrFranciscoFidalgo12 жыл бұрын
Well in fact, what I did was just muting the unwanted strings from DGDGBD so only the 3rd, 4th and 5th were able to resonate. =)

Hi mike this is the first lesson i took a bit hard at first because i did not have a cbg then a 4 string tin guitar i finished a cbg yesterday 5th of may 2014 but anyway i learn't the riff OK cheers Morgan.
@DarkShroom12 жыл бұрын
if you have a 6 string the tendency would be to tune the 4th string to a Min or Maj 3rd, this guy's guitar is tuned gdg, which makes things a bit easier. If you tune the the 4th string to the octave or to a fifth from the root, you can get a more country tang i don't like it myself though i like to have the 3rd available so I can sound more heart broken

nice video great lesson,... I use the 3rd 2nd and 2nd i get the most alsome sound , you might not think possable, there light electric with a humbacker pickup with a 24/.5 inc scale berch 3/16 ply wood 4.5x 9 incx1 3/4 red oak neck from southeast tx tree., small box not much room for pickup every one thats played it are begging me to build one for them its my 9th guitar

Im trying to find the pick motion and each string being hit. Is it all strings being strung but they're open other than the frets being hit. And does the pick motion even matter. Im a hands on learner so it's a little hard for me to learn through the video. Its a great vid and i got the jist of it, but no one around me can play the cbg and i wana be the forst of my buddies. The electric guitar i play feels completely different to this though it's the same principal. What do you recommend for self teaching. Like is there a certain book, or should i just say screw it and make it up as i go? Thanks

But mine is a strict slide guitar with what apears to be a softwood neck that is bowed, still sounds amazingly fine ... should it be so , any comments ? tu neway Adrian

samuel mitgang get yourself a snark tuner and make sure u are hitting the right note should be a F on the third fret middle string. if not an F that's why it sounds funky. how do your other notes sound on the D string?

will this work on a fretless cigar box guitar??
@jmoffitt3610 жыл бұрын
Sure, you have to finger were the fretwire would be on a normal guitar. If your action is really high like my fretless some of the notes sound dull. You can cheat with your slide or wear rings on you empty fingers. For the most part I just use the Slide on the fretless. I have a nice Fretted 3 String built by John DeSmet. handmademusicclubhouse.com/profile/JohnDeSmet. I highly recommend his guitars and his prices are beyond fair. jose anderson if tuned in open G GDG. then open (no fingers) a g. it goes Open G . G# (1St fret) A(2ND) and so on G,g#,a,a#,b,c,c#,d,d#,e,f,f# and your twelve fret is an octave higher G . those R the easy chords
