I am looking for a humbucker pickup for my CBG ... because the 60 cycle hum on my single coils is INSANELY loud. I have tried all the usual tips with no luck (mute strings, less gain, shielding etc.) - I have heard that Humbuckers have less hum - can anybody in here confirm that?? Thanks in advance - and thank you for an awesome channel !!!!!
@SouthernFireGuitars Жыл бұрын
A humbucker will have less hum than a single coil, Yes. Make sure the strings are grounded to your bridge. M~

Michael, I'm building an Electric CBG with a humbucker pickup on a 23 inch scale neck. What do you think is the best placement for both a clean backwoods sound and some hot sauce? I noticed you only demoed the crunchy sound on your red Hoyo CBG with the Humbucker to the rear. Any suggestions? Meanwhile, you convinced me to get a set of those wireless plugs. Thanks for the demos and the tips!
@SouthernFireGuitars4 жыл бұрын
Your welcome Michael, That Hoyo CBG sounds great also on a clean channel. To be honest, most of the time I place a pick up where it looks best on the box top. Maybe to avoid defacing or covering a label, such as this Hoyo. I think the pickups sound good, although maybe slightly different in either position, neck or bridge. I place them where ever works best for the particular build in doing. :) That wireless set up is pretty nice, beats tripping over your cord. lol. have fun with them. Thanks for check out the videos, man. M~

@@SouthernFireGuitars OK. I have another question. My humbucker from CB Gitty just arrived. How far below the strings should it sit?
@SouthernFireGuitars4 жыл бұрын
@@michaelhockmuller4677 Hey Michael, I think that's more of a preference thing, depending on the sound you want. Of course you don't want the strings hitting the pickup. A good place to start would be to make it about half way between the box top and the strings, then adjust it from there.
@josehofmayr88383 жыл бұрын
Hi Michael, a question. I have a box from the Hotel Sacher (chocolate cakes well known in Vienna) and its measurements are 22 cm x 22 x 6 cm high. The question is what scale can I use, 25 inch with 19 frets, 17 Frets or do you recommend a special measure for this box? (Would you kindly give me the measurement?) Watching your videos and appreciating the music you play with these Cigarbox guitars is very pleasing to my ears. Keep it up and always an OK from me. Kind regards José Hofmayr from Vorarlberg Austria.
@SouthernFireGuitars3 жыл бұрын
Thank you, Jose'. the scale length is a preference, usually on smaller boxes I'll go 23'' but I've also have used 25'' with a smaller box. Either one will work. M~

Hey Michael, when using a hard tail bridge how high is the fret board above the face of the cigar box itself? Or do you have to shim the tail?
@SouthernFireGuitars Жыл бұрын
Hi David, My fret boards are about 1/4'' over my box top. A lot of factors involved there, is there a back angel, or is the neck installed flat, how high is the nut etc. etc. M~

@@SouthernFireGuitars no back angle, same plane as the box. I’ll have to take another look at the bridge I got from CB Giddy. It’s finally cooling off enough to get back in the shop and start another build

I'm building a CBG using an undercrown shade box just like that. I've discovered that it's veneered(if that's a word)? Does this affect the acoustic properties?
@SouthernFireGuitars3 жыл бұрын
It shouldn't on most thinner boxes, but those Undercrown boxes are very thick, I usually throw a mag pickup in boxes with thick tops, because they tend to not have very good acoustic tone. M~
