Cigarette will always be the best quality go fast V bottom in my opinion. cats will always have the better top end speed but I love V bottoms the best. They will out perform cats in 10ft seas. Thats why the apache v bottom has the world record for going to cuba and back in 90 min.

I don’t think so but have never heard what that is for pure 1550 mode. 1350 rebuild is 200-300 hours, 1100 is 400-500. My guess is 1550 would be 100-200 but pretty much nobody runs 1550 mode because it requires 110 octane or if they do it’s only for a short period of time.

A few of my buddies bought a government auction drug running boat. It had 4 massive V-8 engines and was deafening whenpowered up. I went for a ride with one of them in this boat on Lake Michigan near downtown Chicago. We didn't reach anywhere near 120MPH, but it's the single scariest boat ride I've ever been on. Never again. At those speeds on a lake with 4 foot waves, I thought I was going to die right then. I appreciate the workmanship and design of these for sure. I also respect the massive power and speed. That said, i think they're the most pointless boats made today. For 2.2 Mil I'll find a nice used Yacht that goes 20 mph. LOL

Newtons 3rd law of motion for every action there is an equal and opposite reaction, the greater the mass of water the props can throw as fast as possible in one direction the greater the reaction force pushing on the props and boat in the other direction, throwing the water up and back just above the surface allows more water to be thrown faster due to less resistance, this is why along with having less drag in the water surface drives are more efficient than fully submerged props. But as you say this is only true if the water is thrown up and back at a low angle or you are just wasting power by throwing water upwards.
