The quickest accelerating boats on the planet. Top Fuel Drag Boats accelerate from 0 - 270 miles per hour (430 kilometres per hour) in just 3.5 seconds. They use a supercharged V8 engine running on nitro-methane fuel and produce 10,000 horsepower. The amazing photo of the red boat, Toxic Rocket, in the thumbnail was taken by Mark Sharley Photography. Big Thanks Mark: / mark.sharley.5

All courtesy of Charles Parsons that invented the steam turbine and dropped them into a boat that ripped the propellers to shreds. So he built a small water tank and a high-speed camera which showed a phenomenon called "cavitation". Tiny vacuum bubbles that degraded the metals and he redesigned the props to withstand this to make the worlds fastest ship - by four times over and changed marine history forever. Without props that can withstand the solid uncompressability of water and the cavitation that takes place these props would explode instantly with far less than 10K of horsepower. And he did it in 1894 with the ship "Turbinia". *That's being way ahead of your time.*

For those viewers thinking that these engines don’t put out 10,000 HP, you are right. For the 2018 season, top fuel engines are estimated to produce close to 11,000 HP. A few facts: No engine dyno exists that can handle all this power and give an exact HP reading; it is calculated based on a number of factors. The engines are fitted with a supercharger that typically provides 60 PSI of boost, but can provide 74 PSI Max. At max boost, it takes 1,000 HP just to turn the blower; 900 HP at normal boost. Two spark plugs per cylinder, two massive distributors per engine with an ignition system that generates 60 amps. When the engines are used in Top Fuel dragsters on land, the engines will propel the car to 100 MPH in the length of the dragster; that is 25 feet.

Which is why these accelerate faster than a top fuel car but slow down acceleration as they get faster due to the water creating friction and cavitation so they don't do a 1000 feet- a quarter mile as fast usually 4- 5 seconds at less than 250mph as opposed to 3- 3.5 seconds at 300+

It's a proper drug that acceleration, from 0-260 mph in 3.2 seconds must be an andrenaline rush so big, guess the rebuild is more of a safety thing, guess this is where you can't learn from your misstakes, maybe only from others misstakes. This must be an andrenaline junkies dream of the ultimate kick.

My mother (rest her soul) use to tell people she knew when I drove up the driveway because all the windows in the house would rattle. We had a nice brick house. Also, I noticed that when I pulled up beside someone at a stop light, people would turn and look at me every time. A friend told me it made his car vibrate. My truck body would shake when in gear, running. So I understand what you are talking about. Nowhere near 10,000hp though. .

I've seen an unlimited "offshore" race, and that was spectacular. What really amazes me with these boats is the safety in place and how well it functions. I've seen several "incidents" where I didn't think the pilot had any chance of survival, and usually "walks away" unscathed. Kudos to whoever made this happen.

Cool fact, that tract is actually in Chandler and the event arena also plays host to rally car races, monster truck rallys, and typical drag races included! Arizona car culture is hardly surpassed anywhere across the world, lots of middle easterners buy their luxury cars here and have them shipped back. Lots of customs across the midwest but pretty much every range exists here from the most custom subis to raptors to land cruisers. The boat scene/lake life here is also vibrant and active but getting more and more crowded at the few easy access beaches. boats let you explore the vast canyon lakes. 10khp is a sight to behold, you can hear these driving the i10 at the right time ofcourse.

I remember the great Eddie Hill saying “my top fuel dragster doesn’t accelerate as hard as my boat.” You can see the fabric of space-time warp when the boat gets up on a plane. There is nothing as violent in the motor sports world as the first half of a top fuel hydro run!
