This is my first time ever sitting and just watching this kind of genre of drag racing. What they do with these machines is impressive. When these things launch, the entire hull looks like it just wants to go airborne. Between the builders standing there in the pits and gassing these power plants under a tent to drivers making under four second passes while keeping it steady on the waters surface... yeah wow. These guys aren’t messing around.

For those viewers thinking that these engines don’t put out 10,000 HP, you are right. For the 2018 season, top fuel engines are estimated to produce close to 11,000 HP. A few facts: No engine dyno exists that can handle all this power and give an exact HP reading; it is calculated based on a number of factors. The engines are fitted with a supercharger that typically provides 60 PSI of boost, but can provide 74 PSI Max. At max boost, it takes 1,000 HP just to turn the blower; 900 HP at normal boost. Two spark plugs per cylinder, two massive distributors per engine with an ignition system that generates 60 amps. When the engines are used in Top Fuel dragsters on land, the engines will propel the car to 100 MPH in the length of the dragster; that is 25 feet.

Hi, yes the torque has been a problem, the used to have to try and control it with rudder. But these boats now use 2 counter rotating props after the invention of a gearbox they call a W-drive which has been a game changer and a lot less accidents.

@@xtreme3minutevideos887 Last time I was around race boats (I crewed for a guy with an unblown gas flatbottom) they were V-drives. Back then, the Top Fuel Hydro drivers had to fight like hell to keep the boat going straight. Good to hear they have progressed to a W-drive to counter-balance the torque. They had to with that much HP pushing what is essentially a small toy boat. Thanks for the info.

I use to have a 1950 Chevy truck with a 350 cubic inch souped up engine with an automatic transmission. My mother (rest her soul) use to tell people she knew when I drove up the driveway because all the windows in the house would rattle. We had a nice brick house. Also, I noticed that when I pulled up beside someone at a stop light, people would turn and look at me every time. A friend told me it made his car vibrate. My truck body would shake when in gear, running. So I understand what you are talking about. Nowhere near 10,000hp though. .

All courtesy of Charles Parsons that invented the steam turbine and dropped them into a boat that ripped the propellers to shreds. So he built a small water tank and a high-speed camera which showed a phenomenon called "cavitation". Tiny vacuum bubbles that degraded the metals and he redesigned the props to withstand this to make the worlds fastest ship - by four times over and changed marine history forever. Without props that can withstand the solid uncompressability of water and the cavitation that takes place these props would explode instantly with far less than 10K of horsepower. And he did it in 1894 with the ship "Turbinia". *That's being way ahead of your time.*

@@xtreme3minutevideos887 Cavitation damage happens when the vacuum bubbles on the vacuum side of the prop blades collapse. These props have sharp leading edges to force cavitation but they are past that large vacuum bubble before it has a chance to collapse. The singing noise you hear when you have a water faucet open only part of the way is cavitation and it's what eats up faucet valve seats. It happens more on the hot water faucet because hot water is closer to its boiling point and needs less vacuum to boil.

does the dual propeller help keep it attached to the water?
@xtreme3minutevideos887
@xtreme3minutevideos887 2 жыл бұрын
yes it does, they are counter rotating, which helps make them track straighter and a rudder failure with a single screw can be catastrophic

I grew up in So Calif and enjoyed the boat drags since I was a kid. It's rather amazing to see how fast these new boats race down the 1/4 mile. Impressive!! Thanks for sharing this video with lots of great sound!

I remember the great Eddie Hill saying “my top fuel dragster doesn’t accelerate as hard as my boat.” You can see the fabric of space-time warp when the boat gets up on a plane. There is nothing as violent in the motor sports world as the first half of a top fuel hydro run!

Yes I know it's crazy, the top fuel drag cars are the same. The nitro fuel is virtually liquid dynamite, it produces incredible power but it destroys engine parts.

average 3,5 G IS NOT LEVEL OF LOOSE CONSCIOUS IN THIS DIRECTION= LATERAL ALSO TIME DURATION TO SHORT IT JUST push you nice into seat 3-3,5 tims stronger average than in bugatti veron 0-100 km/h or average 10 Times stronger than in some 2 litre 150 bhp disell famill car thats it for loose conscious in this direction with time duration 3,5 sec the G force average should be i quess on 10 G + level or even more? however in peak on eye those boat achieve probabl much more G because on sart it loks like water is pull of from drive sstem and there is no "traction" and somewehere around 1/3 or in half lenght race the start to accelerte stronger on eye pek probably 5-6 g or something .
