The thing with Havana cigars is that while they are absolutely inconsistent from batch to batch and year to year, and some have for many years now been increasingly overproduced for the increasing global demand (thereby suffering in quality), and you can certainly find some great non Cuban cigars that smoke much better than many Cuban cigars.. the really great examples of the best Havanas are untouchable, it's only when you smoke one like that that you are so mesmerised and realise why Cubans are loosely considered the best. When Cuba produces it's best blends, rolled well and with a few years good age on them they produce an oily depth, richness and complexity of flavour that you just cannot find anywhere else.
@Vortigan076 жыл бұрын
Totally agree! The inconsistency can be infuriating but when they get it right it produces an unforgettable experience. And this is why Nicaragua, for all its consistency, will never be able to trump Cuba.

As one does NOT inhale cigar smoke into the lungs, the incidence of cancer is HUGELY lower than for cigarettes, though obviously not zero. Moderation, as with wine, beer, food, etc. is the key to both good health and enjoyment.

"I've been asked are Cubans the greatest, do they taste the best, are they the best cigars? No they are not the best at any given time, they have flaws some of the time, they will never be perfect! But that's just it they are unique, they taste like no other cigar in the world they have so much character from cigar to cigar, from blend to blend. That is why I love them. I take pride in ageing them to see how they will develop and age. A true Habano shares your path of life and how one matures through life" Morgan M...

I have had plenty of Nicas. And plenty of Cubans. But that aroma and taste off a fine freshly rolled or aged cuban.....man....that’s next level. Cubans specifically have there own taste and aroma that nicas will never come close too. In saying that. Cigars are very subjective. So that Hoyo that I love ....the other person might hate. 🤷🏽♂️

I like Cuban cigars, i've had quite a few. But honestly i think they're over-rated. I've never had a Cuban cigar be hands down better than some of the best i've had from Nica or the DR.
@Vortigan079 жыл бұрын
+AbominationalFailure I agree with you to a degree,I'm a big fan of Nicaraguan leaf for that full flavour,smack in the face experience,Oliva V being a prime example.Apparently Hirochi thinks Nicaragua is the way forward too and by all accounts is producing quite a cigar.....at quite a price!! Might try and get hold of some at some point but I won't pay silly money just for the Robaina name.Still,I have to say,when Cuba gets it right then there's nothing that comes close.And they've really upped their game in 2014 and 2015 (they needed to!!) so hopefully it'll continue.
@spagoo698 жыл бұрын
I totally agree with you saying Cuba has the best soil to grow tobacco is a slap to Nicaragua and to the DR..I think people are just being nostalgic with the embargo IMO..they think Cuba is the only place that ever grew tobacco before the embargo..the indigenous grew tobacco all over the Caribbean,that "rich copper soil" is everywhere else's too,if anything in the DR in the Cibao region their is the rich dark volcanic soil

Nicaraguan cigars have taken over. There isn't a Cuban as consistent as Padron. Cubans are unique but construction is iffy at best. I'm not factoring price as a factor.
@mttlong10 жыл бұрын
There is some truth to what you say. Padron cigars have immaculate construction however, I'd still take a Cuban cigar over a Domincan or Nicaraguan cigar any day due to the flavour profiles. Cuban cigars have a unique flavour profile that cannot be found in any non-Cuban. I'd be willing to suffer the uneven burn of a Cuban cigar just for it's flavour.
@DM-kv9kj7 жыл бұрын
Never got the hype about Padrón. They are certainly well made and consistent.. but their flavours, even at best, are rather dry, sometimes even a bit bitter and grubby, and only an expensive few of them have any real complexity but even then it's not very impressive.

@jimgallagher59028 жыл бұрын
Disagree. I have had both Cubans and other types of Cigars. Cubans are good, but the price is NOT justified. When a single Cuban stick goes for $20, while a Nica stick, which is just as good, costs $4, I'll stay with the Nicas. Cigars are like wine in one aspect, namely, that people invariably think a $300 a bottle wine is three times better than a $100 bottle, while the reality is that the majority of smokers / wine drinkers can't tell the difference between the two.
