There isn't. All those great composers are gone except for John Williams. This theme was by the late Maurice Jarre of Lawrence of Arabia and Doctor Zhivago fame. Truly a giant in film and TV music.

Reminds me of the huge crush I had on Jill Townsend as Dulcey, but it was a great Western story too (second favorite to Robert Horton's show Shenandoah)

Remarkable cinematography. One wonders how it was done.

If you are ever in the area with a nice car...check out Hwy 395 between Mojave and Carson City The Eastern slope of the Sierra Nevada is beautiful. Many westerns filmed on location near Lone Pine.

Loved this series on TV. Too bad it was a 90-minute heavy, and that worked against it, but we got our time's worth with longer, more adventurous stories. And Jarre's theme--OMG. I swear, this is the *epitome* of Western themes. No others come closer to capturing the spirit of the Old West, the vastness and magnificence of the land, the people and conflicts. It simply stirs the blood. Wish I could find this theme on a CD.

someone tell me why you cannot watch full episodes of cimarron strip on you tube and you cannot watch full episodes of maverick either on you tube but you can watch full episodes of gunsmoke, why is this?
@QuietThought13 жыл бұрын
Yep. This guy is so lost . . . he's about a thousand miles west of the actual Cimarron Strip.

And matt dilliion on Gunsmoke was about 1000 miles from Dodge City.

@@rodmoore1577 -- Most of the terrain I recall from Gunsmoke could pass for various parts of Kansas. The actually Cimarron Strip is some of the flattest dry-grass prairie around. They tried to farm it after it was open for settlement and had to abandon it when drought set in and created the Dust Bowl.

@@midlandredux I was being sarcastic which is what I thought you were being. Did you actually think they would the show in Oklahoma?
@midlandredux Жыл бұрын
@@rodmoore1577 -- No, but they could at least avoid scenic background shots of snow-covered alpine mountains. I've seen similar in movies supposedly set in Minnesota, Arkansas. and Kentucky. You wouldn't show palm trees in Oklahoma, and there are no Alps there, either.

@@midlandredux dude it's a TV show from 1967. Let it go.

This a great TV theme but the name of the series just does not fit with the scenery. "The Cimarron Strip" is another name for the Oklahoma Panhandle, and it sure as hell doesn't look like this. Also, Cimarron, New Mexico, origin of the river of the same name, is a green, beautiful scenic area on the high eastern slopes of the Sangre de Cristo range, and again, not a dry Nevada-like desert area like that which is seen in the opening sequence.
