Glad you didn't spoil the Glenlivet !! I like the small Kuksa, perfect for some very good whiskey! Good try with the Pancake, made me hungry! I also like the CRKT multi tool, I'm interested in how it works for you over the long haul. I like your choice in Knives. Your Esse, and the work you have done to it is very nice. I enjoy my BK2 for many of the same reasons...but I am fickle when it comes to knives and enjoy the Battlehorse Bushcrafter and Mora Eldris as well! Thanks for the shout out last week, it more than doubled my subscribers! All the best to you and your family!

Hello Tom; I found your channel a few weeks ago and have enjoyed your videos and beautiful woodland areas. I like they way you present yourself in a very calm and pleasant manner - very relaxing to watch and listen to nature in the background audio. I have quite a number of knives including ESEE, and I must say they are built like tanks - will withstand very hard use for sure. I do love the "scandi grind" knives for bushcrafting. Two of my favorites is the Jacklore Classic and the Adventure Sworn Classic. - I look forward to seeing more of your videos and hope you find the land you are looking for. I will end with an old American saying - "What Whisky Will Not Cure - There Is No Cure"... Take Care

I don’t know how I missed this video,but I enjoyed it very much. I think it is very difficult for woodsman to say which is his his favorite knife. I love them all and I think in terms of my knife system. On a camping/hiking trip, I will carry on my hip a Becker BK-9 in a kydex sheath that also has a Buck woodsman attached. Once camp is established, I take off my large BK-9 and switch to a cross carry Mora Garberg carbon. I absolutely love the Garberg and feel it is the finest knife made by Mora. Additionally, I never go in the woods without my Leatherman. So, that is my system. A very large chopper, a small blade, a quick access camp knife and a multi-purpose utility combination. I think each knife has its precise purpose and work together. But, if you limited me to just one, I would carry the Becker BK-9. I can do large and small tasks with it, where the other knives are limited in scope. Take away the Becker and I’d have to add an axe.

Condor Bushlore. Yes, the lowly Bushlore. I've skinned and butchered many deer, rabbits, etc. As well as fish. Fits my hand well, good blade length, carbon steel, sharpens easily and stays sharp. Batons well, carves, strikes a Fero with ease, and comes with an excellent leather sheath. It's handled everything I've thrown at it, and affordable. Yes. The lowly Condor Bushlore. Even after having used litteraly 100's of knives over the last 50 years. 👍

1 egg. 1 cup of milk. 1 cup of (self-raising, which has baking powder in it at 1tsp/cup, if you want them fluffy) flour. That's pancake batter. Simple, straight forward, easy to remember. Medium heat - much less than you had. Try again when the fire has burned right down to coals.

To me, a good bushcraft knife is one that I can make a "One stick fire" with. It will baton bigger pieces as well as small, make feathersticks fine enough so that a fero rod will ignite it, and a 90 degree spine for fine fluff/tinder. If it will do these things, it will do whatever I need it to do. Just my opinion. I like your choice. A BC knife doesn't have to be thin with a scandi grind.
@cimbrerbushcraft-vikingheritag6 жыл бұрын
Thanks for your feedback 👍🏻 I agree with you and think my esee 5 covers most of the things your mentions 😁👌🏻 Atb to you my friend 🌤

We all have different training and experience. I've never found a knife I couldn't make a one stick fire with. I've never found an axe or a saw I couldn't make a one stick fire with. And in fifty-seven years of being a woodsman, including a month alone in the wilderness with only a knife, and after that, more than eleven months in the wilderness by myself, I've never once found a time when batoning was a good idea, or the easiest way of starting a fire. You should try larger feathersticks. I'm not crazy about ferro wods, but if you know what you're doing, a ferro rod will ignite a featherstick made from a foot thick log, and that has huge, ugly feathers. Tiny, fluffy feathers are seldom a good way to make a featherstick, despite all the contests and videos promoting such things. But if you do want to make such feathersticks, a pocketknife does the job far better than any fixed blade bushcraft knife. including a Mora. And, no, a bushcraft knife doesn't NEED to have a thin blade and a Scandi grind, but you're a lot better off if it has both of these things. Knives are made for cutting, not for beating on with a club, and the thinner the blade, the better a knife cuts. I'm perfectly content for a flat grind, full or partial, but a thick blade turns a knife into a poor hatchet with a bad handle.

I love to collect all sorts of knives for different reasons. I like sharp pocket knives but some are not safe and will open up inside of your pocket and will cut you! When I am out I like a knife which has long narrow pointed blade to open holes in wood. I also use a durable knife which has thick blade but rounded blade and I use it for carving as well as heavy tasks which blade is very sharp. I bought a thick fixed cheap blade knife to use only for digging in dirt or rocks for metal detecting - don't want to harm my best blade knife.

For bushcraft I’d pick the LT WRIGHT Gary whines bushcrafter and smaller but another great bushcraft knives that I love is my Enzo tracker in O1 I have another Enzo in N690 which I love depending on if You want stainless or carbon my opinion is O1 tool steel is a better bushctaft knife but if u like stainless my N690 knife works great just a little harder to sharpen but you can’t make it up by not having to oil and worry about rust plus I can strike sparks off a carbon blade that can help u start a fire unlike a stainless but I carry firestarting equipment and will probably never need to get sparks from a carbon blade anyway so these are all great bushcraft knives depending on preference. Great video 😘.

@@cimbrerbushcraft-vikingheritag You being pleased with the knife you use is the most important. I don't own any ESEE myself but I do watch a lot of reviews and it's a 'complaint/remark' I see in several reviews from serious people who do all these edge retention tests. I did own some Ontario models that later became also ESEE models (after the break-up) and I still use Ontario but a different line of their knives. Atb, enjoy the outdoors and keep making video's my friend.

Nice Video Tom, bummer about the pancake :(, maybe the pan got to hot (in the beginning) and caused it to stick. That is some good Whiskey, I can understand why you didn't add it to the coffee :). ESEE is a very good blade, I use the Becker BK2, which is kind of similar to your ESEE. But like you I have many knives :). Bugs seemed to be out in force again. I am glad the weather was kind enough to let you get out and get in a video :). Does gun black protect the metal the same way the original Esee coating (which I presume is some sort of powder coat) does?
@cimbrerbushcraft-vikingheritag5 жыл бұрын
Yes gun black protect the metal but not in the same way as powder coating 🤔. Power coating is actually plastic you wrap around the metal and is very protective … while gun black is reacting with the metal and makes a resistance surface on the metal so it doesn’t rust as easy 👍🏻😁🌤 And I think it looks MUCH better. Hope I could help with my answer 😊 Atb to you 🏕
