Looking back at some of these older banlists, it's insane to see what was actually hit during that time and how the game progressed because of it. I'm shocked that Inzektor stayed on the list for so long, but that just tells me how little I still know about the 2013-2019 era of the game.

Konami goes harder on January banlists I feel because the Japanese believe that the first things you do during the New Year sets the tone for the rest of the year, so Konami moving all of these cards around might be them wanting a year of shake ups, and not wanting stagnant formats. I mean the January 2020 banlist kneecapped Orcust, Salamangreat, Thunder Dragon, Sky Striker, and Pendulums, in just the forbidden list alone.

I don't think they were focusing on the strongest deck, only the most unfair ones. The kinds of deck where, depending on the match up, the game is decided by the initial coin toss. Now with most of the common ftks and lock-downs hit, the game can slow down a bit.

The snow hit is actually interesting since correct me if I'm wrong, but the ocg (put to 2 from 1 on the last list) and the tcg (put to 0 from 1 on this list) has completely opposite stances on the card because of just one archetype, Danger!s. Also, I'm just loving the Slumber unlimit since it gives us rogue players a relatively consistent removal engine once again.

while it's true Kaiju Slumber is bad against thunder dragons, and I'm hyped it's back at 3, I'm kind of worried deep down. It's a +1 when activated, and since it's at 3, it's easy Ash bait, and can still activate another copy if the first one gets negated, adds another kaiju. It's just has so much power in 1 card. However, since we are getting that new kaiju in SAST, it now makes sense to bring it back as a side option to counter this strategy, but it's still specific.

I love/hate that Fairy Tail - Snow was banned - I was building a Stromberg deck that runs 3 FT Snows for casual play, but can't do that anymore. :( I love that this upcoming format is going to be quite diverse. Nekroz is coming back (easily predicted since Duel Power has Nekroz reprints). Inzektors going to make a comeback with Hornet at 3. I'm predicting Wind-Up Carrier Zenmaity will come off the forbidden list for the April/May list since Xyz support comes in Dark Neostorm. Interrupted Kaiju Slumber at 3 is to sell the TCG Exclusive Kaiju in Savage Strike. (Otherwise, they'd put Dark Hole at 3, too). Once they sell off the Kaiju in SAST, Slumber will go back on the F&L list. haha. But yeah. We'll be seeing Sky Strikers, Thunder Dragons, Altergeists, Nekroz, Cyber Dragons, Prank-Kids, Inzektors, Rank 10 Trains with 3 Limiter Removals, Harpies, Lunalights, Shaddolls, Zombies, and well, this is all I can think of. haha. Yay Squirrel girl is road kill, Rongo and Gumblar have been slain and the Chaos Emperor has returned though I am confused to how Cyber-stein got limited. Unfortunately with two evils sealed away a new evil is going to start taking over the Meta Altergeist a deck that is more op that Paleozoic frog. I freaking hate Altergeist the deck is too strong because of three cards Rivalry, Secret village, and Multifaker. Konami should have put Multifaker to 1 instead of Cyberstein.

They always seem to bring back a classic ban or 2 to get some of the old-gen casuals to start buying product again, or at least get them to spread the word, but eradicator and traptrick at 3, i'm happy enough against altergeist and sky striker. My only wish was that Fantastica dragon Phantazmay hit that 2500 threshold.

Uh, Cyber Stein was banned. It moved UP to 1, not down. Kaiju Slumber is actually a neat hard counter to Altergeist floodgates. Give the opponent a Kaiju and they'll be stuck under their own Rivalry and Secret Village.

Tinkerer Melon That may be but inorder to even play slumber you have to have a spellcaster on your field since Secret village prevent players from using spells unless they have a spellcaster and you can’t kaiju any of their Altergeist monsters if they have Rivalry on the field since both players can only have one type of monster and Konami has not made a Spellcaster kaiju yet.

@@kish45 You're right about Village. That was kinda dumb on my part :P. I might need to check rulings for Slumber vs Rivalry though. I was under the impression that since it destroyed everything, the attempt to summon would happen on a clear field, not on card activation. I could be very wrong again though. I'll see if I can find a ruling.

Erradicator Epidemic Virus is at 3 and searchable. That's actually a bigger deal than I think a lot of people realize (as far as SS and Altergeists are concerned).

The only hit I HATE is scapegoat it helped SO many bad decks that didn’t have a good way of link spamming I am not a fan of the Brilliant hit considering it helps some low tier decks but with the plant engine those decks should be fine Other the That I think the list is great

Manh-Hai Müller not ever deck plays scapegoat. At 3 yes it was broken. But at 2 it wasn’t really consistent enough for most competitive play. But horrible decks that have no other options can afford dedicating extra deck slots. I think 2 would have been fine.

@@gr8dmoore17 Yeah they're consistent, but they lack power and are very vulnerable to back row removal. I've played them a little bit, and having your widow anchors get poppoed durring your end phase usually leeds to getting otked. They only seem op now because of a lack of back row removal is being played. Ontop of that you don't have very many kill options outside of chain 3 widow anchors together to snatch their board, and anyone who plays into that deserves to lose. And now with Kiaju slumer going to 3 it will be very easy to shut down their ability to use their spells. Tl;dr it's a glass cannon. Just play better.

I’m pretty happy with this banlist to be completely honest. I feel like it hit a lot of decks and it will at the very least cause more variations in decks to pop up here and there. Maybe there will be more rogue decks coming out to the surface. Either way, I’m pretty glad about this banlist as a whole
