Thanks for posting! Love Godard, don't speak French. Is this from when he was working on Histoires du Cinema? I'm also curious to know what he says abt Kubrick, since when he was at Cahiers he thought he was only imitating Ophuls

i belive he said in an interview that he respected Kubrick because of how meticulous he was.

Even if Godard recognizes that Kubrick has more talent than the others, he is saying here that Kubrick is disappointing him with regards to this slow motion, comparable to the Peckinpah’s one insofar as both of them are hiding the fact that none of these two directors truly know what they are talking about. None of them have done the work of investigation that is necessary so as to talk about war (or anything else btw). Godard says that americans can’t talk about Vietnam and vietnamese because they aren’t interested in vietnamese. Kubrick has been to Vietnam but he didn’t recorded real vietnamese. American people have a lack of knowledge and don’t want to cure it, don’t want to know.

is there any way that you could put English subtitle? I have no idea what the hell he's saying but I watched the whole thing, and seriously, got nothing out of it. *sad

In this reportage, he was comparing two movies side by side : 79 printemps of Alvarez and Full metal Jacket by Kubrick. He analyses the two and saying that the slow motion from Kubrick is too Peckinpah like and empty of sense while the slow motion from Alvarez was full of sense because documentary like.
