Cincinnati Union Terminal opened in 1933 as a busy regional rail hub. She has stood the test of time transitioning from a bustling train station to a vibrant and busy center of learning as home to Cincinnati Museum Center. Other train stations and gems of architecture around the nation have not been so lucky. You are so lucky to have the Union Terminal. Those spectacular murals, the ice cream shop covered in Rookwood tiles. I remember growing up in Cincinnati and my parents taking us there. My mom described in detail how busy it was and talked at length about the fountain/waterfalls. The colours she mentioned as exactly how they restored it. The first time I saw it I thought back to her and wished she had lived to see it. This building cannot be replaced, and I thought it was so innovative when they turned it into a museum centre, even read about it in The Smithsonian magazine. It's an historic treasure that deserves preservation.

As a Cincinnati native, this video brought tears to my eyes. And it's absolutely essential that we the people save this beautiful historic treasure that is Union Terminal. From the Baltimore & Ohio "Cincinnatian" train to the children playing in the indoor playground, she has served so many, and created beautiful memories for even more. I only hope that this lovely historic monument will survive for many generations to come.

as a kid growing up in the '70s and traveling to Cincinnati to visit relatives that old Train Station was something I looked forward to and will never forget.

Cincinnati Union Terminal is a gem in the crown of the "Queen City" of Cincinnati, as is the John Roebling Suspension Bridge! Iconic monuments need our support and preservation.

The station is also an outstanding concert venue, thanks to its magnificent E.M. Skinner Grand Concert Pipe Organ, which speaks gloriously throughout the main Rotunda.

Too many buildings have gone the way of the wrecking ball in the name of "Progress". It seems we have forgotten who we are and where we came from. Millions came to this country and made America what it is. We had our own unique style of architecture and Union Terminal is one of them. As the video points out, not all train stations have survived. In my mind, Penn Station's demolition was like a knife in the heart of America. Replaced by a sports venue. Not a single piece was left. Only a handful of statuary was rescued, two of which sit outside 30th Street Station in Philadelphia.

Birmingham's Moorish Terminal Station, wrecked, 1969, and Atlanta Terminal Station, 1972. Southern Railway System trains mainly came in and out of these stations but property taxes were considered too much for such sparse use by the late 1960s, at least for the Atlanta depot. What a shame. The Atlanta station got down at the heels, but had some amazing, sculptured detail on it's exterior. No one thought much about it then. It was just something in the way. Same for Atlanta Union Station, a block or so north of Terminal Station. Primary tenants were L&N and the Georgia Road.

You can take Michigan Central Station off that list: after 6 years and 1 BILLION dollars, Detroit & Bill Ford celebrated the resurrection of Michigan Central. I just saw it last week.
