She looked at the emperor, to ascertain his mood and see if any of her plea would work…. Obviously with her wittiness and smartness she knew he wouldn’t listen if she didn’t trick him, she also know him the best compared to the empress who pretend to love him but didn’t dig enough to grab his essence…

Yingluo knows the Emperor better than the Empress and understood that no amount of pleading and no argument would be good enough. So the only choice is not to attack the people, but the mood. So she said these things to irritate the emperor and ruin the mood thus making him release the dancers like the Empress wanted.

寵妃給了皇帝台階下的做法的確不錯，但個人覺得這不算皇后與寵妃的距離，而是皇后與寵妃身份有別，自然說的話就會不同，試想如果寵妃的那段話是由皇后口中說出，可行嗎？皇后身在其位就是被限制住的，有些話她就是不適合說出口，所以她讓寵妃來勸是對的，其他妃子來說那段話也不合適，只有夠受寵的，才能恃寵而驕有那個底氣說那樣的話，就像戀愛中有人會使小性子，通常是很確定對方非常愛你到可以包容這些，如果不確定是不敢的，所以重點在於“愛”與“寵”，也就是感情上站了上位的人才有辦法這樣行事

It’s a little amusing to see that technically the Empress and Yingluo said the same thing, the difference is the Empress said is in such a straightforward way and Emperor becomes resistant. He puts down his cup and refuses to hear more from her. Yingluo is obviously favored and he gives leeway for her. Yingluo recognized the Emperor’s personality is rather stubborn and spins a story about what if _she_ were to do the same thing: hire beautiful people to work for her. The other consorts (I hopefully think) also assist Yingluo’s tales. The Emperor not only becomes jealous but sees the error in hiring the dancing prostitutes. It amuses the court with Yingluo’s grand stories to hire pretty people and avoids future trouble for the Emperor. Also I’m pretty sure the Emperor understands Yingluo was only joking, but he _does_ listen to her carefully. She’s done such jokes and pranks before in the past and it’s always caught his attention. Come to think of it I guess it’s like he’s a kid, if her stories caught his attention instead of listening to straightforward criticism. It was mentioned sometimes he act childishly from the previous Empress Fuca. The same happened earlier with the Empress Dowager. The Empress bluntly states to leave the 2 princesses at home to be disciplined, this perhaps offends the Dowager for even suggesting the princesses are unruly since she adores them. Even though the Empress Dowager and Yingluo once had a disagreement (Princess He’An) in the past. Yingluo definitely knows how to work the woman’s beliefs & personality. She gives a reason for the Empress Dowager to take empathy on the princesses: they have a chance of becoming ill from travel. With this the Empress Dowager relents and agrees to leave the princesses at home. I’m impressed how far and how clever Wei Yingluo has become over the years.

Nicely stated. When I rewatch this scene, I could see where you were going on about. Yes, Wei Yingluo was definitely saying the same thing as the Empress but she did it in a way that makes the Emperor take notice of her point. She is not criticizing him or ordering him, she just spin a tale where he could decide on his own, that way he could save face. If the Emperor did as the Empress as ‘ordered’ then what is his ‘face’ as Emperor? The way Wei Yingluo did, spin a pretty tale on her own ‘shameless’ face, saves the Emperor from his own ego and achieved her own goal without shaming the Emperor. I think this is how Wei Yingluo shows her love, by making things easier on the Emperor, without it being obvious and the Emperor knows this from the years they spend together. Wei Yingluo does the little things, like help with the Emperor’s relationship with his mother, the Empress Dowager when their relationship was on the rocks for a bit and still have the advantage she needs. Not like the Empress with grand gestures, but the little things and when it’s a bit thing, Wei Yingluo makes it the background, like with the Princes.

Wei Yingluo has nothing to do with "Cinderella". She's one of the strongest and powerfull female lead ever. Cinderella isn't used for the exact plot points, it's used to make an allusion. Cinderella was someone who grew up with people doing her wrong, and she ended up getting something good for her patience and for her troubles. If you look at the original Cinderella, not the Disney one, you'd agree more with them suing Cinderella as a reference. The original Cinderella prayed to her deceased mother, she spoke with birds who helped her get her revenge on her step-sisters and step-mother, and was able to make her way to what she wanted most: love and freedom.

Actually their answer were same. But Ying Luo use tricky answer to make emperor jealous first. While the Empress just go straight forward. Too pity the Empress was lost favour also. So, the emperor stop listen to her.

none of these tv dramas are based on true story, they just borrowed some royal family names and matched some key historical events. But the story is mostly fiction. Zhenhuan Zhuan's original story happens in a fictional dynasty, wasn't in Qing Dynasty at all. It is required by the government TV regulation that all historical tv drama must be based on a real dynasty, so they chose Qing dynasty to adapt the story. So as a sequal, Ruyi Zhuan is Qing Dynasty as well. Because Zhenhuan Zhuan was so successful, there were few other tv drama about palace women wars released afterwards, including this one. Then the government stepped in again saying there are too many these kind of shows, its a bad influence to teenagers (cause media rating is none-existing in China) and bla bla bla. They stopped releasing permit to making these kind of shows anymore (yes you need to apply for a permit for the whole script before making a show in China)

Both this drama and Ruyi Zhuan took some true event during Qing Dynasty (Qian Long Emperor’s timeline). But both of their storyline is fiction, they just based on some important event and well know incident in Qian Long’s timeline in build their fiction story. In this drama, the lead character is Royal Noble Concubine Ling. And in Ruyi Zhuan, the lead character is the Second Empress - Concubine Xian.
