I’m far too young to have lived in the true aftermath of Jimmy’s career. I discovered him with the movie. I’ve watched it a hundred times and surely I’ll watch it a hundred times more. My favorite scene is when Joe Gould, as portrayed by Paul Giamatti, finally shows his empty apartment to Jimmy and tells him that he sold everything to be able to promote Jimmy. This scene makes me cry every time, there’s not a lot of friends like that.

@@brsproductions6117 Bro he didn't force him to sign the contract. In fact Joe Louis offered him the contract and Braddock signed it... Also it was 10% not 70% according to this documentary. Slaves dont have the opportunity to accept a deal or turn it down, that's not how slavery works and also slaves didn't make any money and Joe Louis still made more money than most people ever will.

It was an honor to be part of this. I only wish I had the opportunity on camera minus the time constraints to relate some of the stories involving the times I met Jim Braddock. When I was a Detective in the Hudson County Prosecutor's Office in Jersey City, we used to go to the fights in Embassy Hall in North Bergen, I met Jimmy there and we had some great conversations about his career. A true gentleman to all.

If Max Baer took boxing more seriously, I think he could have been one of the all-time greats. He was a terrific puncher and he could box, as he showed when he knocked out Max Schmeling, which was probably his greatest victory.

True, Baer was a happy go lucky guy who liked to clown around and live the night life. He just also happened to be a devastating puncher of a boxer and the Campbell death weighed on him heavily. Even as a upper contender and then champ Baer was pulling in almost as much money on Broadway and in cameo Hollywood appearances. He was good at boxing but just had no passion for it. When Louis KO'd him in 1935 he was asked if he could have gotten back up and said, "Yes, but I wasn't going to end up on a street corner blind and selling pencils so I could entertain the fans for another 30 seconds and have Louis seriously damage me for life."

Sadly, there aren't too many real men like James J. Braddock around these days. I feel blessed to be married to one. My husband and I watched this movie together in '08, shortly after we bought our first home. I had what was a tremendous foreboding, that we would lose the beautiful old Queen Ann Victorian we had just bought someday. Even though it was the great recession, it made no logical sense, as we were very sound. I just brushed it off as being overly drawn into a movie that really touched me. 7 years later, it came to pass. We lost our home and vehicle, due to medical bills acquired from undetermined illness (later diagnosed as a rare genetic disorder and it's companions) that had been triggered from pregnancy and delivery, which left me unable to walk or do much of anything at the age of 30. We moved to a dilapidated lil 600 foot apt. and made the best of it. Though it all my husband took care of me, ill as I was, and our lil girl, whom we homeschool and worked 12 hour days, often 7 days a week. When given the opportunity to move us into a bigger and safer apt. that need to be gutted and redone, he took the opportunity and did that work on top of all he already had on his plate. Last month, my husband moved us into our new home! He bought us 24 beautiful acres with a lil house that my grandfather built and also a lil cottage that my mother lives in, so as to help me out when I can't manage so well. Last night, we watched Cinderella Man again for the first time in 11 years. It is an amazing gift to realize my husband has grown into a man who compares to James J Braddock in his hard work, determination and heart, to provide for his family in downtrodden times. Interestingly enough, I know the source of this is the same for both of these men, as we were given the grace to come into the Catholic Church 10 years ago. I know my husband could never have done this without God and the strength he receives from the sacraments, the Rosary and his faith. I bet Mae would've said the same of Jimmy, may they both rest in peace. And may God provide our country with many more hero husband and fathers like these two men.

I know all about James J.Braddock being raised in Hudson County N.J. and participating in Amateur Boxing in the sixties as a teenager and later as a young man. He was a living legend in North Jersey especially Hudson County. They don’t come any tougher than Jimmy a great Irish American Boxer and all American hero of that ERA. The greatest Generation for sure Amen and Amen R.I.P. Jimmy you are an inspiration to everyone for all time at least temporal times.

of all his loses only one was by convential k.o. and that came at the hand if joe louis. braddock was one of only 2 people to knock down john henry lewis, the other being Joe Louis. his first 16 k.o. wins all came before the 5th round and most were in the 1st or 2nd. the guy was better than most people think, multiple hand injuries set him back... amongst other things of course but that was probably the biggest according to his biography

Idk if I agree that Braddock's upset over Baer is unparalleled in modern times. I would say that Tyson being knocked out by Douglas a much bigger and more unexpected upset.

Great production. The one guy did get it wrong on the Ernie Schaaf thing. Schaaf fought Baer in 1932 and won a decision, but was actually knocked out with 2 or 3 seconds left, dragged to his corner, but was saved by the bell. There is speculation that he had a brain condition from that fight when Primo Carnera knocked him out a few months later with a jab. The crowd thought it was a dive, but then Schaaf died a few days later.

Ali once said: "A great champion must have the will and the skill, but the will always must be greater then the skil." Guys like Baer just don't have enough will, and they will never have it. So speculating if he could have been this or that is bullshit. He was beaten by a highly motivated, but past his prime, light heavyweight. That tells the tale about Bear.

My favourite boxer of All Time The Story Brings tears of sorrow and joy?I am Scottish and James Braddock was thru ancestry related to my clan Keith believe it or not but even without the aforementioned he was to me inspirational all round good guy and took care of his family and gave the money back from public assistance and now immortalised on film and a film about rise from rags to riches hence the moniker The Cinderella Man....Did You Know That Max Schmeling who beat joe Louis, and years later when joe louis died penniless Max paid for joe's funeral arrangements in its entirety...got say what a decent thing he did so much for being slanted as a nazi (not) he helped his friend and Max Baer Wasnt a villain and mischaracterised in the movie Cinderella Man grevious slander Max merely played to his fans and being a star by play acting...there will Be Only one......JAMESJ.BRADDOCK (Cinderella Man).....born June 17th 1905-died - Nov29th 1974

I'd pick the fighter with more heart, over a fighter with more skill anyday. If the guy with tons of grit and heart loses I can live with that cause I know he fought his butt off. The fighters like that, ya cant hate them cause they put it all on the line. Tons of respect for Jimmy. It's truly special to have touched the hearts of so many, a great inspiration to people of all ages, God bless.

It’s sad how they made Max Baer out to a horrible person in Cinderella Man. As great as a movie as it was, Baer was actually a great man and did whatever he could to make amends to the families of the boxers he killed. He felt horrible about it
