What I think is so ironic here is how The Grand Duke and Lady Tremaine are defeated just through simple acts of kindness and love. Cinderella's care for the mice led them to help her in her greatest time of need, without her even asking them to. And Prince Kit cared about Cinderella enough that he personally got involved in finding the woman he loved. Also, it's clear in this scene that the Captain and his guards respected Kit genuinely and were happy for him when he found his love. Oh, and I never realized how talented Lily James was as a singer.

The fact that the Prince had actual personality (and a name), the fact the movie compares simple kindness in the face of cruelty to bravery and courage instead of equating courage as only risking yourself in battle or something, A+ casting and acting, and my god the CGI and costumes making it all the more fairy tale and magical.

“What sweet singing. Makes me want to tarry just a lit’le.” His true-to-life Scottish accent bleeding through that line makes me shiver when I watch this scene. Richard Madden could not have been a better choice to play Kit as the thoughtful and charismatic Prince Charming we’ve all waited for, and the extremely talented Lily James totally encompasses everything that makes Ella such a remarkable character. Kenneth Branagh’s take on Cinderella has to be the best one ever produced. This film is one I could watch a million times simply for the feeling of joy and magic that it leaves me with, and I can only hope that the director, cast and crew collaborate again on a future project, because the chemistry, atmosphere, and production of this film are stunningly brilliant and perfectly executed. Here’s to an excellent live-action remake, Disney. You brought my favorite childhood movie back to life in a way that will never die 💙

This is one of my favorite Disney movies, because yes, the Prince is so much better here than in earlier versions, where he had no depth or heart to him at all, and we actually see him and Cinderella get to know one another a bit, and see the sparks fly, then kindle into something that feels genuine, instead of just having it happen because that's how these stories go. Beautiful production, immensely likable cast, I've watched this over and over, and now I want to watch it again.

She spent the last however many years of her life waiting on her step family every hour of the day. She had one single night of happiness, and the prospect of chasing that happily ever after was robbed of her and she’s facing life locked up in an attic. And she responds by singing. Singing a song about love. That’s all she has for the world. It was how she was raised. It was her mothers dying wish. This is why she is a perfectly written character. Ella is no Mary Sue without arc or personality. She struggles at every turn to keep her heart clean and pure and nearly breaks. And even in her darkest moments, she reacts in kindness. Have courage and be kind.

I've never been a fan of the 1950's animated original but of this one I am. This film is quite a bit more substantial because it was far better developed, albeit it still could have used a bit more development particularly Kit's character. The most brilliant aspect was how Ella's mother's dying words "have courage, be kind" was the thread which all the events of the film were strung from. 1. Ella never let Lady Tremaine's cruelty even at its greatest break her or darken her soul. 2. She met Kit because she stopped to save a stag's life from what turned out to be a royal hunting game. 3. She made it to the ball with the help of a fairy godmother because she cared for a homeless woman where: - She truly stole Kit's heart for not judging him just on his being the prince. - Kit's interest in her drew the attention and support of the entire kingdom which is what ultimately allowed them to be together. 4. She befriended the mice that infested her home who then came to her aid in her time of greatest need when the Royals were about to leave her unnoticed at the shoe fitting. On that note, I much preferred the singing to the mice retrieving the key and unlocking the door, it was more believable and Lily James has a lovely voice. The other way in which this version sold the story is that Kit's passion for Ella is illustrated by his personal participation in the search for her vs Charming in the original remaining at the palace sitting on his ass while his people did it. Additionally, the costumes, CGI and set designs were gorgeous.

I know some are saying it would've been better/more romantic if Kit went up to the attic to get her himself, but I think that would've ignored the strength we see in the attic scene. We don't see it in this specific clip, but after the Captain asks Ella to come downstairs to see Kit, the stepmother calls herself Ella's mother and, before she leaves, grabs Ella by the arm and says "don't forget who you are, you wretch". It's possible she did this as a last-ditch effort to keep Ella's self esteem low and keep her as their maid for longer; her stepmother turns to insults and degrading Ella once again, but Ella keeps her head high and walks out of the attic with the Captain and presents herself to Kit. I personally like the scene the way it is because it shows Ella, despite all of what her stepmother did to try and squash her efforts and her dreams, kept her head high, stayed true to herself, and walked out of the attic herself - she just needed someone to open the door. She didn't let her stepmother's words get to her and soldiered on to see Kit once more, and it was her honesty and strength that won in the end. Just my opinion though :)
@mellemadswoestenburg1296 Жыл бұрын
That's such an important character beat for her. It's quite literally the culmination of "Have courage and be kind". I especially love the Fairy Godmother's voice over right after she walks out of the attic door. "Would who she was, who she REALLY was be enough? There was no magic to help her this time. This is perhaps the greatest risk anyone of us will take. To be seen as we truly are."

The only thing I wish they had done differently with this scene, is I wish that the Prince would have gone to investigate for himself. It would have been so much more romantic. I wanted to see him jump off his horse, walk right up to the Stepmother and say very firmly, "Stand aside, madam!" Then he would walk up the stairs, slowly at first, almost not daring to hope, then breaking into a run, taking the steps two at a time. He reaches the top and finds the door locked. Not to be deterred, he breaks it down and finds there the woman he loves. Cinderella looks up with a shy smile and simply says "Mr. Kit".

I think the shoes have some magical powers of their own, even after the spell was broken. For one thing, don't forget that the Fairy Godmother had conjured them herself. She can have made them so that they can slip off Ella's feet so that the prince could find her back. As for the shoes not fitting anyone BUT Ella, it is also magic. They can have been made so that only their trur owner can wear them. Hence the magic.

This is by far Disney’s best live action remake- great casting, character development, costuming is marvelous. They certainly took their time on this one and didn’t rush through it like the others that came after it.

After watching the new Pinocchio I know what you mean by not rushing through it. I strongly agree with you

Probably my favorite part of the movie. The look on the face of the wicked stepmother as all her plans go straight into a fire and crumble to ashes! There are few moments in life more satisfying than seeing the wicked fall into their own trap.

AL log I alway wonder if Cinderella and the prince will survive the revolution since Beauty and the Beast and Cinderella both take place in France. Will they survive the French Revolution?

I keep saying time and time again on comment sections that Disney should have been keeping things up since Encanto. But for the most part, they have not. And I’m glad we’re on the same boat with this movie. I wanted Pinocchio to be good of a remake. But it wasn’t

Lilly James performance in Disney Cinderella is my number one favorite movie ever because she is a phenomenal job doing everything she can to go to the ball and dance with Mr kit and walk to a secret garden to go on a swing and then leave to go home before her stepmother and her daughters return home before she could find out that she snuck out of the house

Same and this is the scene why i prefered the live action take than the original. The prince actually joins the search in disguise rather than wait in the palace. And transforming to a realistic way, i love it. Not too cheesy and over the top from a dialogue and acting standpoint

So many movies these days dull all the color (for "atmosphere") so it was awesome to see a movie that was so unapologetically vibrant. They really dialed up the color to the max.
@0deadx216 ай бұрын
It's horrendous to dial up the color to the max. You want the visuals to be vibrant but not to the point of cartoonishness or color vomit.
