How lovely, my great grandfather was somewhere in Kent, England, and my grandmother was born in Gdansk germany was Prussia she came by ship to Baltimore md when she was 8 years old her sister fell over a railing and died aboard the ship and was buried at sea. Her father was a fresco artish and painted in the old Hippodrome theatre in Baltimore. His family in Prussia were very well off but lost everything in the war. My grandmother sister's death affected her terribly and could not speak of her later life so as a child in my teens when I spent alot of time with her I could not say anything of her early life. She always had rose gardens she loved roses and had the most wonderful white roses, they were huge. Her love of roses passed on to me, now that I am 80 I still love them and always wanted a rose garden I could tend to and had many. I would like to have white roses when I die which may be any time now, I get closer every day. I have an old picture I may have taken of my grandmother in a pretty white house dress in her rose garden which I cherish.

What a let down, almost all Europeans are descended from Charlemagne, he had a lot of kids, who went on to have a lots of kids who went on to have a lot of kids... and that was almost 1300 years ago. Same goes for Genghis Khan, I think it's something like 0.5% of the world's population (37.7 million approx) is descended from him, and he lived mostly in the 12th century, 300-400 years after Charlemagne. In my opinion the show makers went to these experts and said "Find royalty in her tree, we don't care who it is.", so they just picked the line most likely from Europe and huzzah, you're related to Karl the Great.

I'm doing geneological research on my paternal and maternal side. So far, I have discovered 3 direct descendants who were fille de roi (the King's Daughters). Most of my paternal side came to Quebec via France in the mid 1600 to early 1700s. It wasn't until late 1800's and early 1900s that they emigrated to Vermont and New Hampshire.

Nearly everybody with European ancestry is descended from Charlemagne even if they can't prove it. My sister is a genealogist and traced our family back to a French noblewoman who came to New France during the reign of Louis XIV. She was his cousin. Her genealogy is known. Captain Thomas Trowbridge! Let's clarify some information about my 8th great-grandfather. Captain Thomas came to America in 1634, landing in Dorchester, Massachusetts. with my 8th great-grandmother, Elizabeth Marshall, and sons (Thomas and William) while leaving the 1st born son, John, and daughter, Elizabeth, with his parents. Youngest son, James was born in America. They moved to New Haven in circa 1639. Elizabeth died circa 1641. Captain Thomas was in the 1641 U.S. Census . By fall of 1641, Captain Thomas left his sons under the care of his steward, Henry Gibbons, who appeared to be an unfaithful servant who seized Thomas' property and deserted the three boys. Town records show where the boys were declared wards of the Colony in November, 1641 and the court placed them under the care of a nearby neighbor, Sergeant Thomas Jeffreys and his wife, who took them into their home to rear and educate until "such time as their father shall come over or send to take order concerning them."

I traced my early ancestry through BOTH my parents' to Charlemagne, King of the Franks (French), whose titles also included Duke of Bavaria and King of the Lombards. He was also crowned Emperor of the Western Empire. And I traced Charlemagne's ancestors back five generations to Arnulf de Metz, born A.D. 582 in Lorraine, France. I am also descended from several other kings and queens through Charlemagne's descendants, including Guillaume Duke of Normandy who conquered England in A.D. 1066 and was crowned King William I of England. William was descended from Charlemagne and so was his wife Matilda de Flanders, who was his third cousin.

I have the genealogy book. In it, it mentions that he was a merchant and went back for business matters. Thomas died with the title of Esquire of old age.

Yeah I met my great grandma in my direct maternal line and she passed away at 89 last year. The last photo I have with her was from when I was 17, 9 years ago. Weall had our kids young. Great-grandma was amongst the 1st generation Americans from my Transylvania ancestors. Her brother thankfully took an ancestry testand he passed a couple months ago.

Well I am Descendent from almost every european royalty, since they all were related. It starts for me back in the XIV century with the kings of Portugal and Spain, as well as the famouse crusaders leaders (Lusignan family, de Chatillon, and the brother of Godfrey of Bouillon, and the Bizantine emperor, then you got the french royalty and the english (normans and saxons) from Rollo wich was a viking, and then going further back I got Charlemagne as well, and the Carolingians were also descendent from the merovingians you can keep going until you reaches Merovech, well then you have the semi legendary kings, and if you go back, is going to go back to Priam of the Trojans, and before him you can reach Zeus!!! =P ...but that is supposed to be legend I am affraid. From other lines I go back to Pelayo the visigothic king that started the reconquista of Spain from the moors, I have from other line the kings of Persia, like Darius, Cirus the Great and so on. And from other line it reaches to Ramses II and Set I from Egypt. What about that? Almost forgot, and the Conquistadors of the Americas as well, the important families since colonial times in Brazil, known as Bandeirantes, so it is awesome at least. I forgot to mention, german Kings and Emperors such Frederik Barbarossa. One other day I reached the founders of Rome. Well of course, not everything that is written is correct, many mistakes, dubious patternety, etc had happen, but still, in most cases it should be correct.

If what I've read on those ancestry websites is correct, I'm a direct descendent of Charlemagne, Richard the Lionhearted, Eleanor of Aquitaine, and Brian Boru. When you go back that far, you could be descended from anyone. There are supposed to be about 100,000 descendants of Pocahontas, and that's just going back to the 1600s.
