Hi Scott loved the interview and cindy gave a lot of insight to things that's well known when performing live with music like the importance of bieng able to hear each other and to having the correct volume levels nothing is worse singing live that having your voice sound louder than the music because a sound engineer won't bump up the monitors because what can happen is you can end up pulling the microphone fat away from your mouth and end up having to push your voice harder just to convey emotion properly on stage and through out your voice. Even with In ear monitors and yes Scott even if you are not playing heavy metal like iron maiden or judas priest or even deep purple and stuff that is more like what cindy does it can still get loud on stage with the instruments even if the guitars are not distorted like a thrash metal guitar. And nothing is worse than having a singer sound louder than then all the other instruments or vice versa the vocal microphone not having any volume either because then you strain your voice just to be heard. And that's not right and for me I am not 22 anymore and it's important that everyone can just focos on putting on the best show without burning out their voice especially for the singer

Great interview! There's a face to the voice 😊. This woman sanged one of the greatest TV theme songs there ever was and thats not up for the debate lol😊 I hear her voice on a daily basis like 24/7 the Golden Girls are on. I miss those times greatly, every Saturday night I watch the Golden Girls, then Empty Nest and Amen, those were special times. Thank you Betty, Rue, Bea, and Estelle for being a friend to us all! Another great one Alan!

Alan, thank you for another wonderful interview, I was educated again by your guest about the music genre.I didn't realize that the jingles Cindy sang were an instrumental part of my youth. I wish they would bring back musical openings to programs today. As for daytime, certain openings set the tone for the episode. My favorites were GL in the early nineties that ran for 12 years and ATWT in the early 2000s. It had great photos of beloved veterans and young ingenues.I often have tears when I watch them for all the talented men and women no longer with us.In particular, Michael Zaslow and Benjamin Hendrickson.

Yes micheal agreed my favorite atwt theme was the one used from 1981 to march of 1993 that was the best and thank you for mentioning micheal zaslow and ben Hendrickson my favorite atwt period will always be the Doug Marland period. And imagine if aw had from December of 1988 through November of 1992 wrote like that it would have lasted longer I just watched an episode again that aired on October 14th 1992 and it was painful watching the continued charecter assignation of Sam fowler yes I get it Brian Greene wanted to bail when his contract was up and of course screwed over aw to go to amc but again he should have never been cast to play that part and neither should have Danny merkal but actaully hired Andy kavovit for that part. But honestly I feel like aw at that time needed guardrails. But at least I can confirm it was Donna, swajeski who started they nonsense making it dificult for Peggy Sloane to figure out how to clean it up and fix it and Michael I saying this because once you do too much damage and the longer you go without fixing it the worse it gets. And it is the same way with music and bands but thank God we have Ai today for music if not misused I mean I have software that I can use to litereky take a stereo recording and break up everything into music stems and litereky demix an entire recording the challenge Is not misusing it. And there is even software Ai software where you can replace a voice with another voice but again it can be misused but if done well can help correct a bad recording too. There are so many possibilities today but again like you said it needs to be done with quality and care notike all the garbage today. We all remember our favorite TV themes or comercials ect ect where today it's the same old garbage even with comercials where is the catchy jingle or the melody.

Gabriel, thank you for your timely response, I felt that Michael Zaslow was one of the most complicated characters in the history of soaps. Along with Anthony Geary you were always drawn to their characters. Benjamin, never seemed to be acting he was a natural unfortunately although he made several films he never received the accolades he should have in cinema. I agree with you about Sam Fowler the later years were difficult at times and with the losses of Douglas Watson and Constance Ford the show seemed different.

@@michaelcdavis7047 and you know Doug Watson loss was caused by the show sending him to the Arizona desert to want to get fit when he smoked for a big storyline and he had a heart attack where fitness classes in New york with a personal trainer would have been more apropriate and less expensive and trust me micgeal I watched where Donna starred the charecter assignation with even Robert Kelker Kelly in the role even with the sudden weird clothes but at Least Robert did his best to still try to not make Sam fowler sound like a jerk with the altering history with but you were lying to me crap at my first art paint showing come on there was more to it when margerer depriest wrote the original. Ohh and the Sam fowler singing career crap and then rebringing up evan bates crap micheal which by the way Donna screwed that up I saw how harding Lemay was mapping out evan in 1988 hex was mapping him out as the son of janice frame and a very James stenbeck Roger thorpe like charecter that was intended to be killed off 6 months later not hang around have Amanda sleep with him when the show knew Robert wanted out when his contract was up it's called not doing stupid stuff and don't get me started on the Jake the rapist storyline just because Tom eplin was going through contract negotiations ruining a popular super couple here evan could have been used as a villain to do things like tamper with the brakes on sams car making Amanda think her husband was dead then sleep with evan as part of a, scheme to knab evan use evan to shoot Jake to protect marley but had evan try to rape market instead or actually rape marley hint Micheal that's what villians are for. Use them. Then had a revaluation that Sam was alive but in a coma and just wrote Amanda out which would have freed Sandra Ferguson back in 1990 to have taken over the part of Emily Stewart from melenie Smith but vice versa I have also said Andy kavovit with all the stuff from July of 1991 up to July of 1992 wouid have done a way better job then Brian Greene and how do I know because I have seen his atwt stuff and then looked at the stuff with Brian Greene and scene the stuff with Robert Kelker Kelly and Sam fowler and Paul Ryan had a lot of simalareties and Amanda Cory when Sandra Ferguson played Amanda had a lot of simalareties to Emily Stewart when melenie played the charecter plus both had mothers who were reformed hellraisers when they were young.

I didn't know about Douglass Watson, he could have received the help he needed in New York.I felt that Tom Eplin's character was ruined with the rape storyline. I might be in the minority but I always enjoyed the performances of Robert Kelker Kelly, but the writers of GH did him no favors. With Sam, I don't recall the different clothing, but I read that Brian was anxious to go to AMC. What happened to Tom Eplin after he was fired from ATWT. Michael.

@@michaelcdavis7047 I don't know if you watch 1987 aw and 1988 aw Robert as Sam dressed way more normally the charecter was from Seatle and. Graphic designer for Cory publishing who just happenrd to like to paint the charecter under margerer depriest was a little like Bo Brady when margerer depriest created that charecter but Sam was kind of like a replacement for jake and don't forget Sam was mitch Blake's half brother. And here is more interesting notes rosemary Murphy for around 5 months played Sam and mitch Blake's mother Loretta fowler and would briefly play in 1989 James stenbecks mother and Paul Ryan's grandmother during Paul's trial In 1989 fir shooting his daddy James stenbeck let's say before Felicia minie behr undid James stenbecks death in 1997 which ruined the impact of Paul shooting his father that was as, riviting and as powerful as roger thorpe in 1980 falling off of a cliff with holy and Ed. But also Rachel killing Janice frame in st Croix on aw in 1980. As for the info on Doug Watson kale brown discussed it on a Locher Room podcast Alan did a few years ago where Alice barrett said 15 months of storyline got thrown out. The dressing Robert Kelker Kelly in weird clothes like the wierd y shirt with paint all over it started in 1989 and constantly in tank tops started also in 1989 and trying to feminize Sam too much with more emphasis on sex apeal VS actaul talent and writing within the bounderies of the show and charecters look at Allison hossack and Olivia Matthew's and Allison was a real talent but the way they wrote Olivia Matthew's was, horrible here she could hdve been paired with Mathew Cory as good replacement for Josie but no let's pair her with Sam fowler and have her and Amanda go at it then fake she is pregnant with Sam fowlers child but no it's really Dennis Carrington wheelers child stuff it was awful and by the way micgeal are you ready for it as Chris Bruno revealed when Alan interviewed him a few years ago Chris was up against Brian Greene for the role of Sam fowler the problem was they de sorased dennis by 15 years it was pathetic that Jamie and Dennis were still 25 in 1991 which was the same age they were in 1980.. A.s I am saying this because viewers notice these things who have watched a show for a long time hint when Chris goutman was ep at atwt amd hogan was headwriter and even after because they remember what Doug Marland actaully wrote history wize hint Paul Emily, dusty Paul Meg, Craig Montgomery hogan ruined Craig ruined Barbara and Hal so fir example Doug Marland would have never put Emily with Hal. He would have been shouting through the studio over the stuff hogan wanted to do and did do. But he would have agreed with hogan about the show looking boring as hell but would have did things the corect way to fix it. And trust me scott defrietas would have still been playing Andy Dixon but if he had to get rid of that awful boring as hell Andy having a baby with a charecter that was boring compared to Courtney or Julie he would done so whether killing her in car accident or something but it would have been written well and I a way viewers could relate to like the casey peritti storyline still a great storyline 34 years later.

Thank you so much Alan, cindy was great and I respect her stance on music and when she was talking about monitors and singers and taking care of your voice but also talking about I sing the way I sing and if you don't like it tough and her knowledge we need more like her. And Alan when she mentioned dolly Parton dolly just did a rock album with rob Halford on it singing. And I wish the us would be more open minded like Europe is about music. Where even pop stars like iron maiden or judas priest or scorpions or old school accept the same way yngwie malmsteen loves Abba. And Kai Hansen of helloween gamma ray likes Depeche mode and pet shop boys or the way David Lee Roth liked old school country western stuff or big band jazz stuff. And me Alan I like pet shop boys Depeche mode even old Duran Duran and even the Frankie goes to Hollywood stuff to and that old school new wave stuff with keyboards. And yes I like some Abba stuff too and Alan I think cindy was trying to tell you even with performing live In the old days without In ear monitors it was tough I mean if you were judas priest or iron maiden you had to really turn your instruments up to year everything on stage and as a, singer you really had to project your voice to battle all that volume and really litereky if you were getting up there with higher octaves litereky almost scream and even if you were doing stuff that was not so heavy it was still pretty loud on stage. Because you could not make custom mixes for each ear piece like today I know because I know what's it's like where someone wants to go I can't turn it up that would be too loud and you are trying to modulate your voice but it throws you off to where you can't convey what you want or express yourself properly In other words your voice live should not sound louder than the music and instruments itself it sounds awful.

That's all you Alan too I mean it's amazing how you get cindy on and then we all start remembering little details like I forgot Blanche had a gay brother and a fiance that must have been later on which explains why you guys love the golden girls And that would have been really bold for a, sitcom to do especially during family hour back then or me remembering the std scare storyline with old people or The scare rose had over aids after a blood transfusion but remembering 227 and amen but also the social issues facts of life dealt with but seeing the diversity of facts of life too. And it's amazing Alan how you help us bring back memories of things we may have forgotten but the importance of how society can be changed just through good shows that are written well and highlight issues that are relevant for the time. But for me when I would have watched with my sister golden girls was just an old people sitcom that was Just well written and dealt with senior citizen issues but looking back it was so much more. Through old people it highlighted issues at the time that were more common with younger people.
