Is it impossible to do this without having the voucher system in your state? I feel that it is.
@CindyTheLDCoach11 ай бұрын
It’s not impossible. There are several schools in my state very similar to mine who are doing it without the voucher system. Remember, the voucher is only for students who already have an IEP and the voucher isn’t meant to be the sole source of a students’ tuition. It really depends on your target and your ability to get in front of people who can pay. One of the schools doesn’t even work with kids with disabilities. I would say like any other business start-up, you can’t expect to come out the gate and replace your teacher pay right off the bat.

@@CindyTheLDCoachmy state doesn’t have vouchers for special education students. Does it? Or do they all offer funding for special needs students?
@CindyTheLDCoach11 ай бұрын
@ET-ri4dt I want to make sure I know your state and I think I do, but don’t want to confirm by outing you here. 😂 Visit here: www.edchoice.org/school-choice-in-america-dashboard-scia/ It will give you information on all states. Also, this parent choice movement is going so fast that you have to keep up with your state legislation, and the laws that they are voting on, and the ones that pass and fail. I know last year a bill came down to the final vote for all students to be able to have some type of financial assistance if they choose not to go to public and some of the Republicans in smaller towns sided with the Democrats and it failed in my state. However, the people who are pushing this agenda are trying to make the bill go before our state again.

Here in NC they are allowing ALL students to have a voucher even without an IEP. They just started this last month.

What types of Theme Based Microschools have you seen? Would you still have to do all the academics if theme based? Or can you just focus on the theme? Do the kids still have to do the Assessments to see what level they are at if its theme based only? Also can you elaborate more on being Self Directed?
@CindyTheLDCoach4 ай бұрын
The beauty of a microschool is that you can build what you want to. Yes, I’ve seen theme based “schools” that only focused on the theme. Just know who your clientele would be…generally home school students.

Thanks Cindy, this ia very informative. I just started a micro school, I have 3 students. I need help please with giving it a better stucture because they all learn differently, am struggling at the moment to balance. I need your help please

What ages/grade levels are you working with? With three students, it shouldn’t be so hard. Think individualized instruction and project- based learning that can be scaffold up and down . Curriculum is important too. I’ll try to do a video at some point to show you how I do it. My students are on different levels too in some areas. Avoid using standards to guide your instruction and more so their skill level where they are.

Are you a non-profit charter school, for-profit charter school, LLC, or corporation? What kind of insurance policy do you need?
@CindyTheLDCoach8 ай бұрын
I happen to be a nonprofit. The type of insurance you get depends on how you run your program. I have commercial insurance for two reasons one, I am in commercial property and two I am accredited. Some people run their microschool in a learning center style or their students may be homeschoolers and their parents hire them to teach them. In these cases, they may be in their homes. In these cases, insurance is less.

I am starting the process in NYS and I have to be accredited. The 21 item checklist has proposed some challenges. I started my LLC and then was told I need permission to use the word "school" in the name. I am working toward getting consent from the NYS Education Department. I am wondering if you can share what the process looked like for you, as far as what you had to do first, second, third, and so on.
@CindyTheLDCoach8 ай бұрын
Sounds like NY is a little more strict. Things can be different state by state. I am in GA. I actually did several videos where I go into the process I took. Look under my playlist. Consider doing a learning center where you educate homeschool students for their parents. You can start this way as you work toward accreditation and everything else. See if this gives you a little more direction and if you have more questions comment on one of the videos that is linked from this article: theldcoach.com/how-to-start-a-school/

@@CindyTheLDCoach NY is one of the most regulated for homeschooling...i really like your idea of a learning center. i'm in california. i've been homeschooling for several years. i already have a private school affidavit for my school (my kids are enrolled in that school.) here in california, you can hire a tutor to teach your homeschooled children, but it has to be between specific hours, and they require a california teaching credential. otherwise, you must teach your own children.

Do you teach your own kids or no?
@CindyTheLDCoach11 ай бұрын
That is a big trend among many teachers who do this. However, I don’t. My grace to teach is for other people’s kids.😩 This is one reason I fall into this. I attempted being a stay home mom and hated it and my kid did too. My hubby saw happier I was and encouraged me to basically attempted this once we put my then 3 year old in school. However, there is a teacher who started this because of her son. She teaches him and has a few other students.
