The stilt house is the Garcia house (John Lautner was the architect) it can be found still standing at 7436 Mulholland Drive in Beverly Hills. While the real house was used in the move the house that's destroyed by Riggs was a replica built on a backlot at Warner Studios. Patsy Kensit who played Riggs girlfriend stated acting as a child in a Birds Eye frozen peas ad before going on to have a UK top ten hit in 1988 with a song called I'm Not Scared (written by the Pet Shop Boys) the song can be heard in LW2 but was not included on the soundtrack.

What made it funnier was the accent all the 'South Africans' used. It was the equivalent of having an American ambassador speak with an uneducated redneck accent usually found in the most remote hillbilly mountains. Then again, with the state of US politics at the moment, that might have actually been the case at some US embassy parties.

Fun fact: The original script for the movie had Riggs die at the end. The studio changed it before filming but they decided to keep the scene, they just had Riggs pull through. Imagine the ending of this movie with Riggs bleeding to death on the ship in Murtaugh's arms as the camera pulls out to see all the cop cars racing in, but too late. In the rewrite, Riggs lives and so does Rika. They filmed a closing scene at Murtaugh's house with Riggs and Rika joking about eating a living turkey. The director thought the movie would have much more impact if the bad guy killed Rika so they cut that ending scene and filmed the parts with Rika dead in the water, but you can still find the scene on KZbin.

Basically they rev the engine in neutral to about 8 or 9 thousand RPM's and then slam it into gear, causing the tires not to gently start rolling, but instantly start spinning at high speed. It would kind of be like putting a hot wheel in the middle of a rubber band, and stretching it back then letting go.

This movie was so popular that Warner Brothers sold the videotape as "priced to buy," at about $24.99. That was unusual, especially for something that wasn't a general family audiences film. Tapes were largely for the rental market. South Africa's apartheid was a major topic at the time, and I use to joke that the movie's popularity led to Nelson Mandela being released from prison the following spring. Condom commercials were also a new controversy, with a debate over whether they should be allowed on TV.

Now you've got to watch the movie National Lampoon's Loaded Weapon 1. It parodies Lethal Weapon 1 & 2 and other movies of the era. It stars Emilio Estevez and Samuel L. Jackson (right before doing Pulp Fiction). Oh, and Sam the Dog, as he's credited, is the same dog as in the first movie.

According to IMDB it's the same cat and dog from the first movie!

Fun fact : Riggs' South African love interest, was the lead singer in "Eighth Wonder" who had one big hit " I'm not scared."

Great reaction! As for the house on stilts: it was a house schedule for demolition, so they arranged to do it for the movie. I hope you continue with part 3. Also . . . the Beverly Hills Cop franchise is pretty good, too. At least one and two.

Nope. You are thinking of the opening bomb in LW3. The "stilt house" is still there.

You make me so happy you're going through these movies! By the end you may well just want to rewatch them all on your own. They really are that good.

Simone, I like your face. You cut the classic moment when the guy looks down to make sure he's not standing on plastic. Another awesome reaction. Damn 80s cars keep blowing up. What'd we do wrong?

Finland 1989. I was watching this at the cinema, premiere week. End scene, someone shouted in Finnish "kill that bastard" (tapa se paskiainen)
