Honestly, I love and agree with both of your comments. I accept that people can sometimes react irrationally in the heat of the moment, but by and large, we can generally figure out through survival instinct what the best course of action is. It irritates me when movie characters make bad choice after bad choice straight into the lion's mouth, because it's not realistic.

This movie is taught in film writing classes as an example of some of the best screen writing in existence. legit, not a single "pointless" line, not a single visual wasted, this might just be the tightest script and directing production in hollywood history. which is hilarious since it's a schlocky monster movie. even the very first scene in the movie. It's where they kill the last one, there are cows so they can have the stampede conversation, and he's pissing off the edge of the cliff... this movie is 100% tight and on schedule from the opening scene.

The white stuff on her nose is zinc oxide, it forms a physical barrier to UV rays and does not 'rub in.' it was the go-to sun screen prior to SPF formulae screens and, combined with titanium dioxide still does a great job at blocking UVA and UVB.

The Army gave us that stuff to put on our nose and ears when I took basic training at Ft Bliss in the summer of 1977. Unfortunately, they gave it too late to prevent a lot of burned noses and ears. Mine burned and peeled twice.

On people with especially pale skin ... this was a "go to" anti-sunburn stuff - often applied just on the nose because hats and other "shade wear" would still leave those spots JUST exposed enough to still get a bad burn. On a lot of old style "beach" movies - there would be at least one character with a nose covered in zinc oxide

I remember they sold it in all sorts of colours, and I'd see life guards wearing it in fluorescent yellow. Only tried it once myself though as I had an allergic reaction and got a red rash on my nose.

I remember when I was a young teenager I used to hang out with a couple of my friends nearly all summer pretty much every summer and we would go swimming A LOT. My friends mom would insist we wear it. Sh would always put his on our nose and sometimes ears before we went into he water. Of coarse me thinking I look completely silly having it on my face and there being lots of attractive women and girls my age. So I would immediately rub it off my face the very first time I duck my head under the water. Of coarse my nose would be sunburnt by time we was done for the day but to me it was worth it (sorta)

See, burt should know you can't store gasoline like that. It goes "stale" after a few months. You can mix in an additive to recover some of the octane but after a year it's basically sludge

I would recommend reacting to the 1996 horror film Tremors 2: Aftershocks, starring Fred Ward, Christopher Gartin, Helen Shaver, and Michael Gross, if that's OKay? While it doesn't have Kevin Bacon as Val, it does have Fred Ward returning as Earl, who's been hired to deal with a Graboid infestation at a Mexican oilfield. Plus, it has Michael Gross returning as Burt Gummer, which makes Burt more of a main character. It helps cement Burt Gummer as one of the legendary horror heroes and sets Burt up as the main character for the sequels after Tremors 2.

My father bought property out in the California high desert once us kids grew up. This movie is a really good example of how desert folk are. My dad actually said living out there was like the movie Tremors. He eventually got some horses and would ride his horse to the bar, acoustic guitar on his back to play open mic night every week. (He made such an impression that the bar hosted his wake for free, liquor as well). Lotta good times up there in the Mojave. The heat is a bit much for me now. I didnt grow up around guns. I always tried to avoid them living in Santa Monica. Some of the most fun I've had is going up there and some survivalist guy has essentially brought an arsenal to my dad's Sunday BBQ. Yes, he had a cannon there as well. I'm still not a gun person, but I do go skeet shooting every once in a while.

Place in Socal called Muscoy. EXTREMELY whatever the new "word" for "Mexican" is now out there. Was passin' through one time on a big, modern city transit bus FILLED with people on their way to the big mall and transfer station in another area. At one point the bus swings around an intersection, slows down... just stops dead in the middle of a four way and doesn't start back up again for a long several seconds. Wantin' to know what the hell's going' on I finally look up. Big ass city bus, runnin' on that future fuel shit, big giant glass windows, packed full of people-- And it had to stop in it's tracks for a little old Mexican cowboy to get his horse to amble it's way across the road. I'm FROM out there and even MY ASS recognized it for the moment it was.

When Syfy channel had a Tremors spin-off TV series they did a whole website covering the history and life cycle of monster. It is actually a prehistoric squid evolved to live underground. It has an unusual and long life cycle that can take many years, which is why we don't often see them.

My sister and I saw this at the bargain theater on a Friday night about three months after it was released. The place was sold out 10 minutes ahead, and we were all looking for a good time. We got it!! When the Graboid-Cam shots started, we were all screaming, “Ruuuunnnn!!!” We all got so into this. Best time I have ever had at the movie theater.

Loved tremors, one I like to go back to every few years. Fred Ward was really good in this, I've recommended another film he was in 'The right stuff' before; about the Mercury program (precursor to Gemini and Apollo) . It stars a favorite of yours Ed Harris as well as a host of familiar faces, can't recommend it highly enough.

The pole vaulting scene was shot in the Alabama Hills, located in Lone Pine, CA, situated on RTE 395. The hills, comprised of rock formations and scrub brush, have been used by Hollywood for films and tv series since the 1910s! Although primarily a setting for Westerns, it’s also been used for sci-fi and dramas. There’s a really fun film & TV museum there, with donated items from Quentin Tarantino (he loves shooting there). Plus an annual film festival!

My favorite little bit of trivia is to point out the Horseshoe Meadow Road on the mountainside in the background of several scenes in Gunga Din (1939). The Alabama Hills also show up briefly in Gladiator, and Mt Whitney shows up in Maverick (with Mel Gibson). I was stopped on the Whitney Portal Road during production of that one. I think Trial And Error (Jeff Daniels and Michael Richards) featured the Owens Valley the most in any movie I've seen.

Words cannot express how awesome this film is, for being so simple, direct and absolutely on-point… and although Stan Winston wasn’t involved in the creature FX for this piece of cinematic perfection, two of his protégés were. Alec Gillis and Tom Woodruff Jr. had been two of the main guys at Stan Winston Studios but had recently started up their own studio (Amalgamated Dynamics Inc.). Tremors was their first movie, and what a debut! When it comes to fun monster movies about underground triple-snake-tongued worms, accept no substitute 👌

When they made this film it was called "Dead Silence" and it was done more as a horror film. It was only after they filmed it that they decided to cut it in a way that emphasized the comedy of Val and Earl and changed the title to "Tremors."

Tremors is what happens when depsite having little budget, a movie is in the hands of capable people, with a tight script and a cast that brings their A game. It as enough campyness to be fun, but enough action, thriller and horror to have you on the edge of your seat. Its simple, to the point, doesn't waste any of its shots and it gives you a really great movie.

One of the brilliant parts of this movie is that the opening faux stampede and Earl falling out of the truck in his sleeping bag is a direct reference to the bomb 'stampede' at the end and the graboid falling off the cliff. Little things like that make me absolutely love this film.

I actually got handed free tickets to the pre-showing of _Tremors_ while just walking through Edmonton City Centre mall. Had no clue what it was about, but it instantly became one of my favorite monster movies of all time. The viewing was just so fun! People cheering and screaming and laughing. Don't think I've had that pure-fun shared movie going experience since.

Tremors is one of my all time favorite movies. It knows exactly what it is and what it is trying to do, and leans into it with no shame and a twinkle in its eye. And it was made right before CGI became advanced enough to be a feasible tool for the kind of effects the movie calls for, so everything is practical, meaning the movie still looks awesome to this day, while movies made just a few years later look dated as hell. The chemistry between Val and Earl is perfect, and the movie balances the horror and the comedy wonderfully, whilst also balancing invoking a bunch of horror movie tropes and subverting others.

Tremors and its five sequels (and one prequel) are just good, campy fun. I think Michael Gross (Burt Gummer) is the only one who is in all of them.

Such a great little movie. I've heard this described as a near perfect movie. It has the right amount of humor, terror, drama. The pacing is spot on and doesn't drag, the quality of the effects, the production size, character background, all hit in the right amount.

Burt Gummer was my idol growing up because of these first two movies. I bought a military M35a1 Deuce and a half as my first ever vehicle, because of Tremors 2, and owned about 20 various firearms by the time I turned 18. He is and always will be my idol!

Tremors spawned multiple sequels and multiple prequels. The prequels go all the way back to the Old West, showing the origin of the creature, the town of Perfection and ancestors of many of the characters. Tremors also inspired a very good TV series. Throughout the many sequels, the creature evolves to become even deadlier. The filmmakers know how to have fun with the franchise, so I had fun and loved most of them. The young girl with the pogo stick is the young girl in Jurassic Park. Melvin, the boy who cried wolf, continue the character in the series. Michael Gross Bert Gummer becomes producer and continues the character, in the sequels and prequels, becoming a legendary monster hunter. Walter the store owner eaten by the 'Graboid', his daughter takes over the store in the series. Miguel's daughter is also a regular cast member in the series.

The creatures had to change and evolve because Burt was set up as the ultimate in preparation. So much so that if the creatires didn't evolve and change, it would've been pretty boring. They had to keep throwing curves at Burt so they could challenge him with something he wasn't ready for. He was always denied critical, need-to-know information!😁

Regarding the effects, this was the company's first full length movie. They submitted their artwork ideas and got the gig, I want to say it was maybe 3-5 people total. They did pretty well for themselves, they got nominated for an Oscar for Alien 3 and then won one for Death Becomes Her.

This movie is magic and very special to me! This movie is one of my mothers favorite and we repeatedly watched a dozen times a year. The magic was never repeated in any sequels or the attempted tv pilot. Val and Earl remain the greatest on-screen duo in cinema!!!

Oh my god! Thank you so much for watching this one! It's a '50s sci-fi horror movie made in the '90s. Goofy, funny, terrifying, and unexpectedly heart-warming. Even with some overacting and plot conveniences, it never once feels insincere. I love this movie!

Fantastic creature feature sci-fi horror valentine to '50s/'60s genre flicks. Alec Gillis and Tom Woodruff Jr. designed the creatures and built the full-size puppets, while the Oscar-winning Skotak brothers realized the graboids for miniature shots. Funny that Bacon at first thought this film was beneath him but when it became a hit and cult-classic he's embraced it and said it's one of his faves. Fred Ward was a fantastic character actor/tough guy and the few comedies - like this one - he shined. They made a great DynamicDuo. Hope Simone recovers from her hangover :D xo

The film bombed during its theatrical release, but found success in the still new VHS rental market. It became super popular as a rental and home video to buy. Another great cult classic that happened with is Office Space.

Fred Ward was in another forgotten classic called "Remo Williams: The Adventure Begins" - which was intended to start a franchise (based on a lon-running book series) but underperformed at the box office - but was also just a ton of fun. I actually saw it in the theater and enjoyed it so much it became one of my go-tos back when video rental was a thing 😁 - I still hold it up as one of the greatest action movies of the 80's. It was one of those video-store hits that got enough views to even get a tv series attempted a few years after the movie tanked in the theaters. One caveat is that it did feature a white actor (Joel Grey) playing the Korean martial arts instructor of the titular hero, so go in prepared for that, and behind a couple of stereotypical traits common in 80's cinema (like Ls pronounced with Rs - which were foisted on many actors playing Asian characters back then, regardless of ethnicity) was a very memorable, engaging character who I still remember very fondly when I think of the movie. I've read many comments on retrospectives on YT for the movie where Asian fans were dumbfounded to find all this out after the fact - including myself - I don't think I stumbled across that until the advent of IMDB when hyperlinking made it possible to easily access the career trajectory of people in all of our favorite films.

I have seen this movie so many times and I still love it. I love the humor and that the movie is actually quite relatable, because how the people reacts when there is that new (weird) threat and no stubid blod running screaming in the wrong way is just a good bonus. Though in reality there is no Grabboids. And by the way, this movie was originally going to be called Landshark. But they changed the name anyway and that's good. And anyway, I like the chemistry between Val and Earl. And also how Val falls in love with Rhonda, even though he tries to pretend otherwise at first. That maybe he finally realised that it's not the appearance, but what's inside that counts. :)

Ariana Richards, who played Mindy, is best known for her role in _Jurassic Park,_ so she spent a lot of her acting career running from monsters. She mostly stopped acting when she grew up. Michael Gross was just off his 7 year stint on _Family Ties,_ as the very liberal PBS station manager father in a family sitcom, so playing Bert was very much a deliberate playing-against-type choice for him.

While the other movies are not quite as good or have as tight scripts, each sequel is incredibly good fun and very quotable. Each sequel actually builds on the lore and life cycle of the graboids.
