Can the DZOfilm Catta Zooms match the Arles Primes?

I totally forgot to do a flare test...Personally I think the Catta Zooms flare like the Vespids (warm, bloomy veils) as apposed to the Arles, which have a cooler, subtle flare.

CATTA : Vintage style : Big CA, softer and oinion bokeh, more flare elements (both coating and zoom nature of the lens having more elements) ARLES : Modern but still gentle on skin, more accurate colors I'd say. Thanks for comparing ;)

I have the DZO 20-70 linglung Parfocal zoom lens,,,, Great quality for the price....Another tool in the Cinema kit....... Great Review and Shot set up in the store BTW.......The Grip work was outstanding..........

Do the Catta zooms seem to be slightly darker when it’s at the same t-stop as the Arles? 🤔

yes - thats common with tele zoom lenses. the light is passing through more elements.

Great video. The Catta zoom has a more rounder image. This is as expected because of the much slower maximum open aperture. The Arles lenses have a flatter image cause this is what happens when you design a lens with a T1.4 aperture. Because of correcting all the aberrations of such a fast aperture, it tends to flatten the image. This is why the Arri signature primes are T1.8. If they were faster, they wouldn’t give as beautiful and round of an image. I love the Arles too though. I think DZO should change the pronunciation to Are-less, it sound much sexier than R’ls

thanks for watching! and respectfully, I think you have it backwards. The combination of distortion (if its corrected for pin cushioning or barrel), micro contrast and focal length determine a "fuller/rounder" image. Also all of the comparison shots were both at T2.8/T2.9. The Arles do a fantastic job giving that 3d pop, even at T1.4.
