Yeah, they can't just grab a new 3rd co-host, as that would mean either redoing the list, or having some other person talk about... What these movies mean to Alex and why she did or didn't put them on the list I guess? Aside from her being an excellent part of the team and vibe of the show, I don't see how it can work with one host subbed out.

Thank you so much for being a part of this podcast, Alex! You're awesome, and I can only hope that the next member of the Top 100 trio does as good a job of balancing the dude-bro-ness (which I also love, but everything in moderation 😉. My question is: Alex's picks are still going to factor in to the future selections, right? It seems like we're in too deep to be resetting one of the pick pools.

Makes me wonder how they'll proceed with this format, because I'm not aware of anything they've said definitively. Does someone (female?) replace Alex? Whoever it is will defend Alex's choices? Do they add someone new and reshuffle the algorithm? (sounds confusing) Or will it be just the two of them? Just won't feel like a well-rounded conversation without her, but it would be weird to have a new presence who's not a part of the rankings.

I saw Die Hard when it came out, and I was living (and writing) in LA at the time. My best friend and I at the time actually took a drive (more like a devotional pilgrimage, actually) to Fox Plaza after seeing the movie. I find the film very sophisticated for an action movie (in a very good way), and have it in my personal desert island movie list, together with films like Fellini's 8 1/2 and the Coen brothers' Hudsucker Proxy. If you haven't heard McTearnan's bluray audio commentary (you don't seem to mention it at any rime during the video), I urge you to do so; it's wonderfully insightful. Thanks for your videos, they are lots of fun.

I love the roof scene where we see John's resourcefulness. He finds 3 ways to use a gun that aren't shooting people. He blows open a lock, stalls a fan, repels with the strap. Rambo doesn't get hit because he's played by Stallone and Stallone doesn't get hit. John McClane survives because he's smart and we see his smarts playing out in front of us.

The UK TV edit (at least, the one I remember from my younger years) was "Yippee-ki-ay, *_kemo sabe"..._* which simultaneously makes a little more sense in the context of the cowboy joke, and also looks hilarious because the edit doesn't even _remotely_ match Macleane's lips (and was also badly dubbed, so it didn't sound like Bruce Willis either). True genius.

My one pushback is that while McClane is a jerk in the movie, he is also aware that he's a jerk and doesn't like it. He immediately regretted pushing Holly about her surname, so he knows he (not she) messed up and let his ego get the better of him, but only after it's too late. It's not like he's an asshole that thinks everyone else is beneath him or stupid. And I think we can relate to that. We've all let our temper get the better of us, said something we regretted, but realized it a moment too late. It's part of what humanizes him as an everyman.

If you like Die Hard, you should check out 16 Blocks with Bruce Willis and Mos Def. Watched it last night and it's the Die Hard 4 we should have got. I don't want to spoil anything, but give it a try. It's Bruce as McClane would be near the end of his career, burnt out and tired. It came out a year before 4.0 and is way more similar to the first one, contained (within 16 blocks) stripped down, gritty. Competent villains and a fitting end to McClane's story. And great direction by Richard Donner. It even has connections to the third one with McClane working again with an African American, in a logical and natural (but very different way). Def recommend.

We need to talk more about McTiernan aside from his time, he is a master director and the props have to be given, what he does aint easy, his style and camer work to relay information so you dont get lost in the story this is not Micheal Bay. There is a reason why thousands of action movies have been made since the 80s and none o them match quality and all of them are getting worse it seems people dont know how to direct action

Die Hard was so well shot & edited, but wasn't that contentious/controversial during the production? Things like cutting while the camera was still moving, or having glare on the lens were considered faux-pas & were getting a lot of studio pushback, and the first editor was fired because he wouldn't go along with what McTiernan wanted to do? Also, I believe Powell's hero music at the end was pulled from Star Trek II The Wrath of Khan (James Horner).
