I love the way Alex Garland's work always has a serenity and beauty with a menace lurking just underneath all of it. Excited to see Civil War.

For some reason, the director's fav shots is never what we would think. It's usually what the audience doesn't notice.

A good director is good at directing. A GREAT director surrounds himself with people who are good at their job, and includes them in the creative process. And an even greater director acknowledges their invaluabe contributions to the final product. Love this.

Nope. It was directed by Pete Travis. It was written and produced by Alex Garland though.

Kudos to the set designer for coming up with the bathtub idea in Dredd, because it was a brilliant way to show how Ma-ma found a way to be opulent in the slums. There was very little to be had in the way of creature comforts in a rundown tower block, but a place to sit and enjoy a bath without a care in the world shows just how powerful Ma-ma is.

Silence is well used in Civil War and that scene with Joel is powerful.

So cool you have him on! I admire Ex Machina like few other films! To me it is perfection in every aspect. Never ever have I seen a film before or since that deals with the question of consciousness and humanness in such a profound and philosophical way and the filed of movies that deal with these topics is fortunaly vast and I've seen many of them, which shall just emphasize my compliment! 🙂 It was Ex Machina on which I wrote my first ever paper in Universitiy here in Germany, that's how far my passion for this film reaches

What a generous director to his crew Alex Garland is. Brilliant. Just like his movies.

Wild he chose the helicopter scene for ex machina. The red outline of ava, the reverse shadow of ava to close the movie, Caleb and Nathan by the waterfall, that whole movie is beautiful

I love Annihilation, Sonoya Mizuno really sold that creature that imitates Natalie Portman's character. For me it's a great modern sci-fi horror with classic cosmic horror elements. Some of the visuals are burned in my mind for ever.

There was initially a shot at the end of ex machina from the AIs POV and it was just totally alien, and digital. It didn’t make the Final Cut. I wish it had, cos I have to admit I don’t totally understand the story until I heard about that shot.

Usually it’s Director’s who have a film to promote so maybe when The Movie Critic comes out Tarantino can do it. Fincher and Nolan we’ll have to wait longer for.

Get Fincher and ask him to pick the worst shot from each movie, that would be more entertaining.
