Didn't see the film, have it coming from Netflix. I just finished the book, and would recommend it highly, although I can see why it was banned in many areas back in the prudish days of 1956. The characters of Vinnie & his buddies are examples of the worst, inhuman & brutal animals in literature. What they do to Tra La La (the Jenifer Jason Leigh character) and to the Union Rep. will make some people sick.

Fine and in the main faithful adaptation from the book. I believe that the only character left out of the film version is the Black Pimp. I wonder if this was cowardice/fear of being called racist.
