I think this is great insight that applies to all sorts of writing. Just tell the story, describe the things that naturally occur within that story, and if your story has legs and your observational prowess is strong enough, the poetry and the articulate nature of the prose should happen by virtue of this rarely had combination of circumstances. Anyways, great video! Subscribed!

Totally agree, everyone can learn something from any other person on this plant. From what they do, what they say, and also probably from what they don't do too. Books, they shouldn't be banned or shunned. They should be read, but of course with context. Loved the video!

@@JayTheAuthor I often wonder if travel is the key to gaining an open mind (or maybe even a different mindset). As I find travel is often a similarity of those who are pretty open-minded and willing to hear things that hurt, and things that are uncomfortable. You're a traveler aren't you? I've moved around a bit. I don't know why but i've found it much harder to get comfortable here in Australia, and it's been 2 years (even in China it was easier!). I've found when I do in fact find someone who gets what i'm saying, and I get what they're saying...its always someone whos seen at least a bit more of the world.

this was fun to hear about! I agree that we have a lot to learn from writing of depraved scenarios. I want to empathize with people who are different from me, not just people who have exactly the same values as me, and I think reading their work helps with that :)

Always remember how Hubert Selby Jr became a writer. After leaving school at 15, he caught TB on a ship a couple years later, was told he would die many times, almost did die in surgery, had a lung collapse, got addicted to painkillers and was bedridden and in and out of hospital for the better part of a decade. He had every excuse not to write. But one day in bed, he decided he would write just because that was the only thing he could do, and so that he wouldn't feel he'd wasted his life. If he can do it, anyone can, so long as they want it enough.

Wanting to write in a "sophisticated" way is one of the major obstacles when it comes to writing. I want to write just like Hemingway in a way when he can write the unwritten. He can write a two page short story which you can write a 10 pages analysis on it. Another writer that I love is Arrabal. He's part of the Dada movement and his writing is not, as most people view it, surrealist but rather hyper realist. His characters are like cruel and sadistic childlike adults who just describe scenes of violence as if they're watching a cartoon. They're also sexually depraved at times and this is where realism hits. Arrabal doesn't shy away from writing about crude topics and his books might ruffle some feathers but I like it. I don't know if you can find the English translation because I read his books in French, but give him a try. Also, sorry for the long comment!

Oh my days, Arrabal sounds out of this world!!! I need to read him! Sounds like his writing style is very interesting. Thanks for the recommendation, and don't be sorry, I always enjoy reading your well thought out messages. If you sat through me yelling at the camera for 20 minutes, it's sure as hell time I listened to what you have to say hahaha And I loved it. Keep rocking Sarra!

@@JayTheAuthor how can anyone top your comment off? I hope you'll get your hands on some of Arrabal's books, you never expect what will happen next and that's what I like about him.
