Lovely stuff as always - especially the Cannon logo carpet! I saw Batman at the Cannon, Wolverhampton. It was a good month after it came out though as we couldn't get tickets!

Brilliant. Really took me back to when I was 12. Qued outside cinema for over an hr to see batman. Attention to detail was great and a great year for films

Such awesome detail as usual. The foyer recreation with ‘coming soon’ posters, dimly lit and with Lyon’s maid at the concession stand is so well conceived. It takes me back. Thank you!

Christopher Fairbank went from being an arsonist-turned-plasterer in TV classic Auf Wiedersehen, Pet to being a Gotham City mugger in Batman only to feel The Dark Knight's fury and deservedly so. Fairbank also delivered a short but superb performance in The Fifth Element, too.

I once owned an ex-display lifesize cardboard standee of Michael Keaton's Batman purchased from Dillons bookstore (remember them?) back when the relevant blockbuster was released. My late dad and I had to carry the above promo piece to our car in two halves as The Dark Knight's torso was attached to his lower section. I was glad to get out of a busy Newcastle city centre that day, I can tell you!😊 The relevant standee now only exists in family photo form and looking back, I wish i'd never let it go.😞

I'm from the U.S., so I can't claim a nostalgia factor personally, but nonetheless this stuff is still really interesting to me! There is definitely a clear distinction between British cinema presentation and of that this side of the Pond. Cinema advertising was limited over here until around the year 2000, and it was usually limited to still ads ran in a slide show prior to screening the trailers, and often times these were ads for local businesses. Most full motion ads we'd get would be for concession stand items at best. Just a question, when exactly did ABC Cinemas become Cannon Cinemas? I've read that Cannon took over ABC in 1986, but it seems that the ABC branding continued for a bit longer. The acquisition could be felt here in North America as Thorn-EMI's home video partnership here with HBO (Thorn-EMI/HBO Video) became HBO/Cannon Video that same year as a result.
@jameshague47502 жыл бұрын
Well, if you ain’t gone and done it again ! Do you do these from memory ? When did cinemas start to show ads before trailers?
@jonnof772 жыл бұрын
For this one, a lot comes from memory, yes - it was a formative experience! Can't say the trailer package is 100% accurate but it's true to the releases that would have come to the Cannon over subsequent weeks. I'm reliably informed trailers were shown first up until about 1987 - apparently advertisers had more clout before then (so their stuff would end up being seen closer to the film).
@MysteryManfrom792 жыл бұрын
It was the norm - only a few chains like ABC put trailers before ads.

The funny thing is I saw Batman at the Cannon cinema in Ewell (now sadly long demolished) back in the summer of 1989 with a couple of my old schoolfriends. It was so hyped what with the logo appearing on T shirts and other merchandising. It also had that soundtrack album that most people played once and then just filed it away only to donated it to a charity shop a few years later! And I had totally forgotten about the one trick pony that was Yahoo Serious. I remember seeing another film with him in called Reckless Kelly on the shelf in the video shop a couple of years later. I guess his brand of humour was just too eclectic for the UK market as he never really became a star outside of Australia.

Dude, I love these reels, even some of them are similar, nothing is perfect. What I love is how u deliver the presentation, the old look of the building back in the day, to music, the sense of how u make it real. Even if it might take more time, I like the whole look.
