@@JohnJones-gg3zd He's in the hearts of billions around the world. Whether they know it or not! Arthur Askey was granted lifetime honorary membership of Equity (the actors union) in his final weeks in hospice... True to his graceful mischief he acknowledged this with "At Last, recognition!", with a twinkle in his eyes. He was buried weeks later. Object lesson in informed humility. There goes Norman "Hurricane" Smith.

I liked him as well but his story doesn't make sense. The Beatles either did originals or covers of older hits. They never released a new song from an unknown song writer. Or maybe he was implying that he would have been a ghost writer and it would be credited to Lennon Mccartney.

What a wonderful guy. Articulate, an experienced sound engineer, a great story teller, plays the piano, a song writer and then has a hit pop career in his own right. An absolute true gent. Then on top of that in his earlier life he was drafted into the RAF to become a glider pilot in the dark closing days of WW2. There's just a few interviews he did like this just before he died. He'd stopped giving interviews for about 15 years until the mid-2000s when he surfaced again. He did an oral history for EMI Records, a long interview for the Recording The Beatles book, this one, and one or two on early Pink Floyd! He did record the Pretty Things as well - nothing from him publicly in those interviews, I think.

If you want to hear how it would've sounded if John Lennon had recorded it, search for 'Don't Let It Die - John Lennon' - musical impressionist Stevie Riks has done two versions of it on the Merseyboys channel.
