I utterly love Mission Impossible II. It's just such a perfect product of its time, the very early 2000's. The look, the over-the-top action sequences, the slow-motion every 3 seconds and the absurd amount of unnecessary cuts (bathtub scene everyone) and the absurd and silly takes (Ambrose catching Nyah's scarf mid-air in slo-mo). I have always had a huge problem with the motorcycle jousting scene in this movie. You mentioned it a bit, but here's what happens: Two guys driving 50-60 mph towards each other, jump off their bikes, collide in midair, fall 20-30 feet off a cliff, and then take about 5 seconds to recover before they start fighting again. I know your supposed to suspend your disbelief in movies like this, but come on. Great video btw!

Regarding the question of the transponder being detectable by third parties even if its signal can't be interpreted: Actually, it is possible to avoid radio emissions being noticed at all by someone looking for them. This is done in modern radar onboard fighters like the F-35 and F-22, where minimizing one's detectable footprint is a top priority. Radars function by bouncing radio waves off of objects, so, naturally, someone else can see your radar pulses as you sent them out. They don't get range data, but they can tell that someone is there. Radars used on those stealth fighters use frequency hopping and a variety of computational techniques that I don't begin to understand, with the aim of making their radar emissions harder to spot--the technical term is "low probability of intercept"--essentially by trying to spoof foreign radars into thinking that the fighter's pulses look just like more background noise to filter out and ignore. The idea of a small transponder like that having the processing power to pull that off--in the 1990s, no less--is rather laughable, but the principle is valid.

As a rock climber I can tell you that what he is climbing is VERY possible to climb. It isn't sheer at all because there is a crack going straight up that you can easily climb. Notice the white chalk marks on the wall? That's actually a pretty popular climbing route near Moab, Utah. That was not a sin at all, though him doing that climb without a rope is incredibly stupid. I can only think of 1 climber in the entire world that would even attempt that without a rope, though millions of climbers could do it with a rope.
@joshua432149 жыл бұрын
I love this EEW! Tom Cruise is a very accomplished climber and that is really him on the rock. The jump scene with him slipping is also real. He was not supposed to slip, but it looked so good they kept it. If you look closely at the film, you can see the chalk marks on the rock from his previous takes, this is something that would not have been included in a fake. Also, the scene where hunt and Nia see each other over the dancers is I think one of Woo's finest scenes. He is the master of slo-mo and really did an amazing job of balancing mood, color, motion, and sound.

Lukas Garcia Likewise. Far too focused on the female love which Ethan barely had any chemistry with to warrant as much imperative to keeping her save as the movie hoped to demand, effectively even overshadowing the actual mission. The others never did make that mistake again luckily.
@sergiocampanale38829 жыл бұрын
Rod Al I've always thought that. Both Cruise and Newton actually look quite uncomfortable throughout so I think they realised something didn't quite work. The biggest problem with it IMO is that it strives for epic grandeur and deep significance but doesn't earn it and can't sustain it so it ends up looking ridiculous, more like a parody than a real movie. As you said they avoided that mistake in later movies. I like all of them but I am excited by the direction of 'Ghost Protocol' and what the trailers suggest will be 'Rogue Nation' which go for a traditional Bond approach and succeed, (Hell, GP effectively ripped off the plot of 'The Spy Who Loved Me' if not the structure) This one wanted to but failed but with Bird at the helm they seem to giving the miserable Craig era austerity Bonds a run for their money. With 'Fast and Furious 7" and "Kingsman The Secret Service" MIRN could complete a trio of 'true spirit of Bond' movies before the miserable atrocity of 'Spectre' finally hits us at Christmas.
@motherplayer9 жыл бұрын
Sergio Campanale Oh yeah. Ghost Protocol was helped in part to it's energy, strong direction and some good practical stunt work along with peppering it with just enough emotional attachment to make it complimenting, yet not overbearing to the overall plot. I have good hope of "Rouge Nation" too. Considering it's directed and written by the same person who did "Jack Reacher", it does get me very fascinated along with the premise of a counter-agency.

One of the earliest episodes of the Mission: Impossible show had the team breaking out a cardinal come resistance leader out of a prison. The break out was set to the music of a travelling circus set up next door. I think that scene in this movie was a throwback to the show.

Hey CinemaSins. You forgot that awful scene with Hunt and Ambrose driving high speed towards each other, and then clash together at 80 mph and then just fall to the ground. They would have broken every possible bone in the body and disintegrate into a million pieces. Oh and the bike scene generally, where you can clearly see the switch between road and off-road tires. How this movie got a 6.1 on IMDB is a miracle. It deserves no more than a 4.

vegitausa wouldn't matter anyway. Fastest flight is 20h43m and that doesn't include the 3hr pre check in time (which trust me you'll need at Sydney), the 2hrs to get out of customs in the US and then from the airport to the CDC. So "nope"

Everything wrong with MI2 on: they didn't take it seriously any more. The original has an urgency and atmosphere. They also focus on stupid twists simply because the first had a couple.

15:17 didn't they actually do this? ... IMDB : For the "knife-in-the-eye" scene, Tom Cruise insisted that a real knife be used, and that it stop exactly one quarter-inch from his eyeball, instead of somewhere vaguely near his eye, as John Woo suggested. The knife itself was connected to a cable that was measured carefully in order to achieve the effect and Cruise insisted that Dougray Scott use all his strength in the ensuing struggle.

First movie seemed ok. This one seems awful.
@FireBirdFilmsAssemble9 жыл бұрын
DarknessInferno15 The first half is really boring, and i'm not saying that because I have a short attention span. Nothing interesting happens, but the second half is an action packed and visually outstanding thrill ride in my opinion. It's what you expect from a John Woo movie. If there was a good fight scene or something sprinkled in to that first half it wouldn't have dragged as bad as it did. If you like Mission Impossible, then it's worth a watch.
@TheMongooseStudio9 жыл бұрын
FireBird Films I disagree. The first half is unwatchably boring and the second half is way too much action, in my opinion. And not Mission Impossible 1 style action. Ridicolous, over-edited action. This movie is absolute garbage and not worth a watch IMO.
@FireBirdFilmsAssemble9 жыл бұрын
TheMongooseStudio I guess I didn't care about the amount of action there was by the end because I was so bored by that point. I think the pacing was completely off. I honestly didn't mind the fact that the action was ridiculous because I sort of expect that in a John Woo movie. I do agree that some parts were over-edited though. I understand where you are coming from. Depending on someone's perspective on action and if they can survive watching that first half really determines whether they will enjoy the movie at all. I'm personally mixed about it.
@TheMongooseStudio9 жыл бұрын
FireBird Films I thought that I found the movie terrible and the first half boring because i just watched the first one a night before. Nope. That first half is unbeliavably boring. I don't know how they managed that. I guess the meaningless romantic storyline didn't help. There was also no tension in the movie what so ever. The first, third and fourth movie kept me engaged and on my seat throughout them. This one lost me at the start and completely chased me away at the end. I understand where you are coming from. The action was needed VERY much after that first half of the movie, but as you also said the pacing was very off. Like terribly off. The first half did not contain almost any action, and they put every good action scene into the second half which just feels like a bad Michael Bay movie. Actually, If i think about it it's exactly how I felt. Like watching Transformers 3 or 4. No interest in it what so ever because *action scene* *chase scene* *action scene* *fight scene* *action scene* *duel scene with main character and main villain*. It was just way too much action after a completely dull first half, which ruined the movie for me. Thank god, I looked up that the third and fourth were directed by someone else, because 3 is very good and 4 is excellent. EDIT: Forgot to mention what I meant by it being a Michael Bay movie. There was just so much action that it felt dull, meaningless and boring. Exactly how Transformers 3 and 4 felt to me. I just couldn't enjoy the action because it was too much, so Missin Impossible 2 was a complete borefest for me.
@FireBirdFilmsAssemble9 жыл бұрын
I have to agree with you. I haven't watch the movie in a while and the only thing I enjoyed last time I watched it was the last half because it was mindless action. There really was no tension though. There was never a scene where I felt like Ethan didn't have everything under control. It was basically Michael Bay's James Bond, and that does kind of bother me now that you mention that. I love 3 and 4 though, and 5 looks like it could potentially top those two movies which is saying something. The second had absolutely no teamwork aspect like the rest of the movies did, and it looks like they are sticking to that in 5. You kind of have to appreciate this movie for sucking now though. Without this movie the producer's wouldn't have figured out the best direction to go for the rest of the series.
