@Ounouh6 жыл бұрын
I think the finger on the revolver's hammer was an intentional choice. He went to hospital to finish turning Dent to Two Face and direct him to the path Joker planned him to take. BUT he also knew that Dent had every reason to blow Joker's head off when given the chance. Why do it then? Because it shows to Two Face that it would be waste of time to chase Joker later. It gave illusion that Joker would not care if Two Face shot him, so that also makes it seems waste of time, and the time could be used on something else...

Heath Ledger's voice acting through the whole movie deserves its own win. Looking back at old interviews his regular voice sounds most like Chris Hemsworth - deep with an Australian accent. The way that he mastered all of the Joker's weird vocal nuances, from his American accent, to the growls, to the maniacal laughter, occasional voice crack is incredible. It's an absolute tragedy that we lost him so soon, he would have starred in so many more incredible roles. Though I am thankful that this is one role that immortalizes his talent.

My theory is that Joker was a soldier known for his brutality and ability to create chaos and insurgency.During the interrogation, he says something like this, “You’re a freak, like me. Sure, they need you now. But as soon as they don’t? they’ll toss you out, like a leper.” Which lead me to the idea that he was a soldier praised for his insanity until it wasn’t needed anymore, then he was cast out, dishonorably discharged, abandoned on a mission and left for dead, whatever form that may have taken. I don’t have a lot of specifics or hard evidence, but as mentioned in the video that’s a good thing.

I LOVE the moment at 4:50 because you learn so much from the tiny shot of everyone backing up. Between the 3 bosses (Gambol, Chechen, and Maroni), they embody 3 very distinct reactions to the Joker. Gambol is angry and reactive. He knows he’s not in control here, and he hates it. He’s grasping for a semblance of that comfort that control gives him, to a point that he blindsides himself to the very real danger Joker poses. Maroni also knows Joker is in control, but on the other hand, he knows this isn’t someone who can be “bought, bribed, reasoned with, or intimidated”. He maintains a little bit of composure in front of his men, but has a sort of “don’t make any sudden moves” look etched onto his face, with his eyes glued to the Joker. And then there’s Chechen, who has the most interesting reaction: he’s intrigued. Curious. He sees the Joker as a potential business partner (evidenced by him humoring Joker’s questions, asking his price, genuinely considering his offer, and even leaning casually as if to show he’s open to Joker’s proposal from the beginning). When Joker pulls the grenade card, Chechen barely stirs - he looks back at everyone else’s reactions, but he maintains the same casual composure, as though he expected this and is unfazed. It leads into their later actions as well (Gambol’s leap to the conclusion at Joker’s “death”, Maroni’s confession to Harvey about Ramirez and his tip to Gordon about Joker’s later whereabouts, and Chechen’s acceptance and inclusion of “the clown” to get rid of Batman, even giving him his half of the compensation as he had requested)

In regards to the Joker’s military background and his experience with interrogations, I think we forget his ability to read people. He claimed to “know the squealers when he sees them” in reference to Lau, which ended up being correct. He knows how to push buttons, like when he claims to “know the cop’s friends better than the cop ever did” and get a reaction or get people to submit to his plan. Just some things that play to his abilities and seeming expertise in interrogations, possibly showing even more of the Joker than we realize. Great writing and incredible performance.

@@Xannyphantom905 I think it would be better thought out like this: Joaquin Phoenix is the comic joker inside his own head. His own view of the world, where he is a tragic hero, turned comedic villain. Heath Ledger is not the Joker (to me that title is reserved for the voice of Mark Hamill) but the real-life version of him. There is simply no way for Joker to be alive, in this world, our world, without him being Ledger's take. Insane, yes, but brutally efficient and insanely pragmatic. I agree. I was almost 13 when I watched this film in 2008, and I didn‘t understand anything that happened. I couldn‘t even let it sink in because my parents wanted to sneak into another theater and _watch Mamma fucking Mia_ right afterwards. The mood whiplash was real and impenetrable, and it stuck. Everything I know about the greatness of this movie was told to me by more analytical people like Cinema Wins. I don‘t have any real impression of _The Dark Knight,_ save for how radically different Ledger‘s Joker was from Hamill‘s Joker in B:TAS. It‘s also worse when my parents don‘t want to delve into the deeper meanings of the movies they watch - they just watch movies for fun, not for the stories it tells or the characters that develop in them. _The Dark Knight_ was nothing more than 2-hour entertainment with a menacingly horrifying Joker in it. I wouldn‘t be surprised if they really went to see the annoyingly cheerful ABBA tribute musical just to cleanse their palates. But the tragic fate of Heath Ledger and the terror of the Joker scared my mom so much, she refused to let me watch _The Dark Knight Rises_ when it premiered in 2012 (as well as the Aurora theatre massacre, perhaps.)

It’s cool how the line “as a man, I’m made of flesh and blood, I can be ignored, I can be destroyed. Jared Leto's Joker being in love with Harley is what ruins his character.
@karkatvantas95576 жыл бұрын
The Joker isn't supposed to love Harley. It's a fundamental misunderstanding of his character and their dynamic. There are only two people Joker cares about: The Joker and Batman. Changing that is wrong. And then of course there's how brilliantly DC portrays a realistic, disturbing abusive relationship without it feeling like gratuitous violence.
@matthewcrombie36306 жыл бұрын
Maybe you're right about the "character ruining" thing, but seeing as how every incarnation of Joker that I've seen until his was abusive and manipulative, it felt like a breath of fresh air to have one that felt some kind of reciprocation to Harley's feelings. Especially, since he did start out like Joker normally was. Explanation time(This got long, sorry): 1) Leto's Joker was only manipulating Harley right from the start like how he normally does, but upon that moment right before he fried her brain when she told how she felt, he paused because he didn't realize just how strong her feelings were. I.E. he thought that she would immediately hate him or beg him to stop upon his attack, but she just went through with it, because she truly loved him; something he NEVER anticipated was that she would still love him. That's where his curiosity in her first truly sparked. 2) I haven't watched it, but I think there was a deleted scene where Harley hunted down Joker and killed people in his name just to convince him to let her join him(Or something along those lines; I really need to look up that deleted scene sometime). That's where the fire began. Joker once again failed to anticipate just how strong Harley's love for him was. However, he went along with her...maybe out of fun? Amusement? He just wanted to have so fun with her? Doesn't matter, since that's where it began to bloom. 3) The ultimate tipping point came eventually when some time later, Leto's Joker felt comfortable enough to confide in her, his ACE Chemical path memory and then took her there. But here's the kicker... Joker was still manipulating Harley at this point. "Would you...live for me?"

*Notice how the Joker’s fate in **_The Dark Knight_** is nearly the direct opposite of what happens to the Joker in 1989’s **_BATMAN._* In _BATMAN_ (1989), Batman uses his grappling device to to pull the Joker off the helicopter, causing the villain to fall to his death. In both films the Joker is directly responsible for death of people Batman cared for the most. In 1989 the Joker wants badly to get away but Batman’s thirst for revenge wins out. On the inverse, In _TDK_ The Joker is absolutely elated as he falls to death, perhaps satisfied that Batman will now get the point (the point the Joker proved with Harvey Dent). Batman, of course knows what the Joker is thinking and denies his nemesis another victory, pulling him not to his death but to safety. Batman proves (in a surprisingly cool way) that he has nothing in common with the Joker. Revenge is not his style. Good Stuff!
@muddypiggy69135 жыл бұрын
Caroline Mohr Yes he still won. He brought Gotham’s white knight down to his level. But Batman took the blame for his murders so that Gotham could believe Dent died the Hero Gotham needed. And something cool to note is earlier in the film Dent took the blame for Batman and in the end Batman took the blame for Harvey. Not sure if that’s relevant but I like thinking it is.

my favorite hidden detail is how Alot of the time, Harvey's face is usually viewed from a side angle so we never see his entire face head on, and alot of the time even when he is facing forward, half his face is in shadow. just good visuals

The Joker is the hero Gotham needs but not the one it deserves. He dismantles the large criminal organizations, kills the Hong Kong guy who was helping them, drew out and killed some of the corruption in the police force and justice system, attempted to kill all of Gotham's former criminals (the prisoners), pretty much promoted Gordon (the lest corruptible cop) and even stops Batman's illegal activity which was inspiring others to do their own vigilante justice. In the next movie it's 8 years later Gotham is the most peaceful its ever been.

16:25 Ultimately, Jokers full plan was completed in full by Bane when he read Gordon’s Anniversary Speech (in the football stadium). Joker won, 8 years after Batman thought he did it, Joker’s absolute destruction of Harvey’s POV lead to the prisoners being released. I understand they were broken out of jail, but even if Batman stopped Bane right then and there, Jokers original plan would have worked: returning Gotham to its raw chaotic state pre-Batman. Haven’t seen this level of continuity in a long time.

@@tabbygorilla1515 you don't understand the movie. If you expected a movie about the joker then sorry but what you got is the creation of the Joker. Arthur is one of jokers back stories (maybe) and its about how he becomes the joker you clearly don't understand the movie if you say its overrated. I thought it was a great way to show how joker was born but the movie leaves so many things left open that you don't know if anything is real like joker says "if I would have it choose my own story then I'd prefer multiple choice" or something along those lines Joker is about how he became not Joker in his prime like Heath's Joker was

11:06 This scene was actually done in one take, because Nolan and the entire crew of TDK had only one of these trucks, so if they didn’t do it then the scene wouldn’t be the same. It really adds to how much everyone had to do for this movie and really makes it even more amazing, if that can even happen.

Actually, I’ll have you know, when they were shooting Game of Thrones, there’s a scene - well there’s a few, but one in the first season specifically - where Tyrion slaps Joffrey 3 times in short succession. Jack Gleeson (who plays Joffrey) reportedly couldn’t get the "getting slapped" acting right, and thus told Dinklage (who plays Tyrion) to actually slap him for real. Which he then did. With all his golden rings still on.
