Lack of confidence from the studio = no marketing. Look at suicide Squad, it's even worse than Tarzan but thanks to the marketing and the hype it made back its budget and then some.

Sealing wounds with ants is actually a legitimate procedure. You take soldiers from an ant colony and let them bite the wound, then you rip off their bodies. That kind of seal is surprisingly solid.

Ants actually were used by Mayans, Incas, Aztecs, and 18th century explorers as a form of suture. The ant would be coaxed into biting the wound together. Afterwards, the ants would have their bodies twisted off and the ants would stay in place with a death grip on the gash. This skill is still taught to people in certain survival training camps.

@@TheReZisTLust no it's not, that's just truth. I'm just a plain jane American, so I can honestly say we're boring. I hate it when folks think everything anyone says is totally racist, when modern films and the so called realists of today have desensitized everyone into thinking everyone is exactly the same. We are NOT the same, not in the sense that we could all be the same people and do the exact same things. I could never be the queen of England, and you could never be an fbi agent. Why?? Cause you're on KZbin, for one thing. When your mommy and daddy and people you choose to look up to sugarcoat your lessons in life, you don't even get a glimpse at how heartless life can be when you're getting a lavish lifestyle handed to you and you go thinking everyone is on the same playing field and everything is just hunky dory. And I'm not saying I've experienced the worst life has to offer, and I'm not saying you personally were born with a silver spoon in your mouth. But anybody that worries about someone being the least bit "racist" probably needs to get out more. I'd rather be an African chick or a Mexican with a ridiculous sense of humor, anything would be better than an ugly white girl with bad teeth

prolet kult Sorry about my name, 14 year old me thought he was a lot cooler than he really was. And does no one give a shit about artistic integrity? The fact that an actor is or is not in a movie should not be it's only selling point, because even the best actors are only as good as the script and director. Christoph Waltz and Sam Jackson are some incredible actors, but production companies assume that because they shined in one role they can just be thrown into anything and make it great, so there's no point in putting any effort into the script. Does it mean it will get more money? Absolutely, but it also means you're left with a shit movie wasting talented actors that will only be enjoyed by people buying a ticket for the express reason of that actor being in it. I understand many production companies couldn't care less about the quality of their film as long as it makes bank, but to me personally, I'll take a movie that actually has some effort put into with nobody actors then a cookie cutter piece of trash with fantastic actors who can't save their film any day of the week.

1999's Tarzan is my favourite Disney Renaissance film. Best animation, pacing, plot structure, themes, poignant scenes, songs, and justification for the talking animal trope, as well as a father-figure character that had a lot more screen time and substance when compared to Mufasa of The Lion King. The chemistry between the two love interests made the most sense (it wasn't the most developed because it wasn't the main focus unlike in Beauty and the Beast), and the movie had zero reliance on magic!

Dudebro13454 Bro I meant Kerchak, Kala's mate and the leader of the gorilla troop that Tarzan follows in the movie.
@charmandyorton006
@charmandyorton006 7 жыл бұрын
It's just that Mufasa feels too aware of of the dangers surrounding the Pride Lands for my taste, and he also isn't shown or referenced as having faced adversity far out in the Outlands such as losing touch with its inhabitants and/or finding that an animal close to him was murdered by one of the Outlands' kind, for instance. (A movie about Mufasa's history with the "shadowy place" and taking the throne would make a great prequel, though.) You could say that Mufasa felt too omnipresent even prior to becoming a ghost from being butchered by Scar and the screenwriters dangerously close to the beginning of The Lion King. Kerchak to me felt like he had more of a purpose as to why he was so authoritative. He wanted the best for the little troop he had which reflected only a MINUSCULE amount of animals in Tarzan's dirtier, harsher and more unpredictable version of Africa. Sabor was word-of-mouth enough for Kerchak to be aware of how dangerous she was when Kala brought up the fact that Tarzan was alone without parents to protect him, bringing Kerchak to allow Tarzan to stay under Kala's care. Kerchak had never seen a human before he had seen Tarzan as an infant, so he called awareness to the truth Tarzan not being of their kind before coming to agree with Kala on these terms. When Kerchak walks through the camp set up by Clayton and company, it feels so unnatural and unfamiliar to him that he orders the troop, including Tarzan, to "avoid the strangers, do not let them see you and do not seek them out." When Tarzan objects during the meeting saying that the humans meant no harm, Kerchak states out loud that he doesn't know them and isn't willing to risk the safety of the family by going near them. After Tarzan reveals to Kerchak that the jungle is his home, Kerchak asks Tarzan to forgive him for not understanding that Tarzan had always been one of the troop, which initiates Kerchak's acceptance of Tarzan as his son. Unlike Simba during the Hakuna Matata phase, Tarzan wasn't so lazy that he had to get awareness of his homelands' predicament by an old friend of his and the ghost of his father: He was told about the trade goals of Clayton and got a shotgun-charge to the stomach in his one-time pursuit of the shores of England to be with Jane. Privileged old Mufasa's life was perfect to the point where he never argued with his mate or disapproved of his spoiled-rotten brat of a prince, whereas Kerchak realistically argued with Kala and expressed dissatisfaction with a human who had known nothing but the jungle as his home and was seriously desperate to find acceptance as an ape-man. Sabor was also a household (or treehousehold) name to Kerchak and Kala because she murdered their biological offspring.

The ant bit is actually a fascinating detail. I cannot say what the exact species is on the top of my head, but there is a type of ant that has a bite so powerful it stays locked even after the ant has died. Local tribes knew this and would use the heads of the ants as the equivalent of stitches. I watched a lot of animal planet when I was a kid....

I really think this needs more likes, because I think that's what the majority of people who watched this movie, like my family and I did, were expecting. Nothing wrong with following the novel, but with how badly Disney seemingly butchered their interpretation and how big a company Disney is, it's sort of the expectation people had in mind with it.

Yes, the movie really is more of the second book, but all the flashbacks were the first novel. Other than Jane's story line which is completely wrong, I think they did an okay job. It was by no means perfect and really not the best structure but it was better than the versions that came before it and it was an enjoyable film, unlike its animated predecessor.

This is one of those movies where if you read the book it makes alot more sense. Unfortunately because the book was first published in 1912 the chances of anyone picking it up and reading it were probably very slim around the time this movie came out. 11:22 Tarzan's ape-mother Kala. I suppose the movie contains stuff that is hard to know unless you've read the books. That dude killed her with a poisoned arrow, Tarzan killed him in return. That's why the Chief is after him. In the books the warrior was just a random dude from the tribe and nothing came of it afterwards apart from Tarzan wanting to kill every warrior he came across and viewing them as evil.

Actually, Tarzan _is_ a registered Trademark, and you do need that little circled R. - If only to remind people.. See, people keep thinking that the copyright must have expired by now, leaving Tarzan in the "Public Domain", but ER Burroughs was smarter than that. Trademarks don't expire - Ever. The only reason Tarzana, CA exists is because Burroughs created it.

sjhmagic1 If you insist. However, copyright still has a limit on the number of times it can be renewed. "...Unlike patents and copyrights, trademarks do not expire after a set term of years. Trademark rights come from actual “use”. Therefore, a trademark can last forever - ...... A trademark registration can also last forever - so long as you file specific documents and pay fees at regular intervals...." If you really want to argue the difference between a trademark and a "Registered" trademark, fine - But that's just pointless quibbling that doesn't change anything. There is no law requiring that a trademark be registered. The point was that back in the late 60s certain publishers assumed that the copyright had expired and started re-publishing the novels. This resulted in the novels being put out by Ace, Ballantine and a couple other publishers simultaneously. (Same thing happened with Lord of the Rings around the same time) Widespread confusion was the least of the problems this caused. Having worked in the publishing industry for a number of years, I can guarantee that every few years some bright-eyed young writer thinks that Tarzan _has to be_ Public Domain by now and that they can use the character themselves. Some editors and publishers are dumb enough to think they're right (Though they have no excuse for _their_ ignorance) and a novel will get as far as being printed as a "proof" and sent out to reviewers.

sjhmagic1 Copyright laws have recently been changed. It used to be the maximum was 70 years.
