Man, you better hope he lives in Texas, or he's going to have to do a voiceover adding, "Our main character is a successful KZbinr, and while he thought he was just making a clever meta-joke, he's going to find out _that_ was his biggest mistake. See, this KZbinr lives in [a state other than Texas], and he just admitted on camera that he only thought the intruders were there to steal. He may have thought it was funny, but he probably won't be laughing for long once he's sitting in a courtroom, watching the DA play it for the jury at his trial for first-degree murder. But what do you think?" 😄 (Just in case: I really _do_ think your comment is clever, especially as something to visualize happening. But I also couldn't help but laugh when when you had him say "intent to steal," because even in states with the strongest protections for self-defense, except Texas, you have to at least have a reasonable belief that you or someone else is at imminent risk of death or great bodily harm before you can defend yourself with deadly force. So it was funny to think about someone who picks on the foolish choices characters make in movies basically record himself confessing to and committing a crime, which would _definitely_ be a foolish choice.)

The horror escape rooms are pretty good. They are more expensive, as they use live actors. Your "timer" for a room might be the zombie on a leash 6in from a pole, which is able to pull out more chain every 5min. There are some serial stabber ones where it forces you to split the party. One needs to run through a maze (the killer walks) while the other tries to open the exit for the other via puzzle. There's plenty of time, so I can only speculate on what happens if you fail this section. The serial killer actor would "stab" you with his metal painted knife and delare you "out".

Its just a pretty good setting for horror. How many other scenarios will a rational group of friends willingly enter a locked confined space at someone else’s mercy without lots of suspicion. Especially since things like blindfolds and handing over phones are a bit odd but fit the theme of an escape room enough that it doesn’t cause too much suspicion.

A better solution for the bear mouth mechanism is simply taking some piece of rope or binding (like their clothes), wrapping it around the pull switch, and then pulling on it. This allows the door to be open and the bears mouth to close fully on the soft fabric, not harming the users hand. The other individual can then prop open the door with something to keep it open so the other person can release the pull switch.

for the bear, why not jam news papers in there tucking them behind the handle till it's enough to open the door? she uses very little force to pull the handle and she can stick wads of balled up paper in with her hand and tucker it behind the bar. also instead of a chair stacks of newspaper would be way more effective to hold the door. putting phone books in a cars paneling is a decent way to bullet proof cause paper will only give til it can no longer expand at the point of pressure. same with the door, lay a stack sideways in the door. i have seen hydralic presses rupture trying to crush paper, no way that door would have that kind of pressure.

There was a case in my country when 4 teenagers died in an escape room because there was a fire. There was a gas explosion and no one could be saved. Since then, my country has introduced special regulations regarding such attractions to avoid another tragedy.

I must be an idiot because I always thought the friend at the start that didn't go with them was the one that got them killed. I assumed so because she was always made fun of as being somewhat poor compared to the others, and at the end of the movie there is a scene that her is having a blast at a party while everything happened... Or maybe I am mixing up movies idk, it was terrible nontheless

I feel so smart bc with the bear and the door, i said the same exact thing he said, i will tie a string or rope around the handle and drag it from outside the bear’s mouth and then put a piece of furniture to stop the door from closing

Nah, if I’ve learned anything from John Mulany, you never go to any secondary location. You want it? Go get it! *throws wallet and runs*

Here's a tip for from someone who's actually built their duck before they usually only baffled it together so the best way to take them apart and stick if you have a prying tools to go for the joint between segments. This will work much better the punching through the metal

I like how he suggests that starting a fire in small unescapable room with lots of flammable materials is a good way to survive

- go to an escape room with How to Beat - tries to fight you all the car ride there - fakes a medical emergency 3 minutes into the game - entire place goes up in flames when the poor staff goes to get help

I enjoy your breakdowns and all, but I do have 1 minor critique/suggestion. In virtually every film, it's easy to watch the whole thing and then go back through it again to pick up some of these suggestions/clues via hindsight. That said, you typically do a good job at keeping potential options open given the context of where you're at in the film. But what would really prove to be a tremendous skill set is to do first-watch versions where you attempt the same type of strategies or suggestions without knowing where the story is actually going. I also recognize how difficult that would be for a variety of reasons. You wouldn't really be able to put it on KZbin because of the copyright claims. It's also an extremely difficult task because these films usually include a lot of extemporaneous detail or possibilities to throw the audience off. I have a tendency to do this myself while watching a film and it makes my wife want to kick my ass. But, at the same time, she also sees that I have pretty decent foresight and can usually predict solutions/resolutions with good accuracy. That's one of my favorite things about watching films like this that actually give you a lot of the information during the story. What pisses me off is when they pull the rug out and give you some random twist at the climax that doesn't make any sense at all.

Honestly with the time that is given at 42 minutes I cant say using big objects as shields is such a good idea, it would take way too much energy to keep moving with it, but I do agree prying doors open with a big object is a good idea and sacrificing my team is never a good idea. However, bribing someone who seems to have the resources to kill my team and I is definitely something that the kidnapper would not ever agree to, leaving us one option; try to escape with all my team intact.
