It’s a Brosnan film. Nobody expected these movies to make logical sense. That’s not why people watched him. His Bond films were my least favourite for that reason. At least some of the Roger Moore outings made some sense. Brosnan’s films were basically down to a formula. Bond has an action scene, making a silly quip that leads into the titles. Bond gets his next case, maybe gets it on with some random woman, insert quips, action sequence, quips…and so on. Sure, you could argue that’s James Bond, but after Goldeneye, it’s just repetitive. Other Bond films could get that way, but not to the extent that they were made for 13 year old boys. They were like bad Marvel movies. It’s a shame a strike prevented Dalton from doing a 3rd film because he was the Bond of the novels. Quips only when necessary. Like the early Connery films. Those are the ones I watch. I’ve probably seen the sex scene in this about 10 times more than the actual movie. Which is one and done. Awful movie. Brosnan actually made Johnny English and Austin Powers obsolete.

@@ricardocantoral7672 Well, there were plenty of places where he did. His shock at seeing Alec Trevelyan alive, his sorrow over Paris Carver's murder, his connection with Elektra King and clear sadness at her betrayal. It's only the last one that didn't really have any deep character moments. But at the time, the producers weren't really confident enough to really plumb Bond's depths completely as Daniel Craig's movies did...hence, such actions as having a character like Christmas Jones to The World Is Not Enough just so the movie can end on an "Oh, James" moment, instead of Bond and M reflecting on Elektra's betrayal (the kind of ending a Craig Bond movie would have had). I love TWINE, but its main problem is that it has a split personality.

Yeah, it kind of surprised me that he said fans don't think much of Brosnan as Bond. It's always seemed to me that they mostly liked him, even if they felt that some of his material fell short in places. In his best movies, he managed to pull off more serious moments than Moore did, while also keeping a light touch in places. This film was just "too much", a common complaint of movies in the 1990's and 2000's. All Bond movies had a couple of awesome set pieces, but this was one set piece after another, which is why I think the CGI was bad. Plus, CGI was not up to todays standards so a lot of the things they wanted to show was still beyond their capabilities. This movie also continued the bad idea in Brosnan's run to have numerous love interests instead of just one. Another part of "too much" was of course the outrageous plot, which was so unbelievable it even eye-rolled Bond fans. The series rightly course corrected after this with a new stripped down Bond that was more believable and darker. They learned that this kind of Bond was just too silly and too much. Brosnan did not deserve these movies as this was the part he was born to play, but the times when these came out were just even more grandiose and cheesy than the Moore years. Bond in these movies was way too much a Marty Sue. (He always kind of was, but this movie just took all the suspense out of a Bond movie like it was a cartoon.)

6:01 Actually, hovercraft do not trip landmines. At least, not pressure activated ones. The ground pressure of a hovercraft is spread over such a large area that it is too low at any one spot to trigger a mine (Most of the time), especially not anti-vehicle mines which require much higher force to detonate. There is the problem however that hovercraft cannot go up hill beyond the shallowest of slopes. And yeah, this movie sucks.

Didn't they sorta depict later scenes in the title sequences for Goldfinger and Skyfall?
@tommycarr81118 жыл бұрын
Jovonthony Pridetano But they didn't actually show the plot where it currently was. Goldfinger and Skyfall showed a montage of clips, where as Die Another Day shows footage of the plot shot specifically for the sequence.

The Diamond thing also always bothered me. I get that they wanted to give Zao a cool look but it doesnt make sense. Trevelians burned face? Largos one eye? Tee Hees missing arm? Nothing they could do about it. But if you have diamonds stuck in your face the first thing you'd do is pull them out to ease the pain, and your body would reject them anyway. PLUS its diamonds so their worth would either make you or someone else want to sell them.

Would of loved to heard your commentary of the Madonna cameo.

YES! He should've commented on that and as bonus at the end of this the music video for Die Another Day song I would have like to hear his views on that.

This was not a good movie, but that sword fight is just awesome. Even Mr. Plinkett, one of my favorite caustic critics, hailed it as a film sword fight done correctly.

Fun fact: the reason there was no backlash for team america world police? It was one of kim jung ils favorite movies. He actually found it hilarious, even when they made fun of him. His son wasnt so receptive

Kim Jong Un had several doctors executed for trying to put him on diets and outlawed sarcasm in North Korea because he thought the generals were making fun of him (not joking he actually did that) So you can guess from that he has a very thin skin

You can't avoid land mines with a hovercraft. Any hovercraft has more then enough ground pressure to set of any anti-tank mine. If they aren't set off that way then any magnetic mine would certainly go off.

I absolutely loathe this movie but I still think it's a lot better than Quantum of Solace
@FVD7 жыл бұрын
To be fair though, the Writers Strike didn't help matters for Quantum at all, sadly. And that was such a shame really as all the other Craig Bond films have been very good.

I remember seeing this movie in the theater and despising it from the beginning. I guess that's what makes movies like Goldeneye the gems that they are.

I don't know if someone already mentioned it (probably), but Ian Fleming got the name James Bond from the author of an ornithology book. So that almost makes the bird joke better, I guess...

I have to admit, Sean, I'm a little lost at ur next movie. Since it will b December, it would make sense for a Holiday movie. But with u saying Far Away at the end, and since Star Wars is coming out in a couple weeks, are u doing one of the Prequels?
