I don’t know if I should add some suggestions. The tutorial is top notch and some points , which are not even mentioned in other channels, have been covered very well. However , two things I want to suggest , one is not to use tapes on walls . Premium sets might get damaged if tapes are applied like that directly. The second point is bit of aesthetic . Rather than fighting with the blue incoming light from bedroom, imo it would have looked better if the color temp on camera stayed the same and the key + hair light dialled warmer . That would have created an organic complimentary tone . Although it’s just my personal opinion. Overall a fantastic tutorial . Thank you .

Awesome tutorial & interesting technique. I've seen an interview where Greg Frasier (cinematographer of Dune, Mandalorian etc.) mentions he prefers to use as much natural light & as little manipulated lighting. Which would totally go against this since you're taking away the 2 main sources of natural light. So I would actually be very curious how to achieve something similar, with that kind of technique. Not saying that either is right or wrong, since I think, as long as you get what you want to express, it can both be right. Again, awesome video! Thanks so much for taking the time & instructing us.

This was a really nice breakdown! I wish you had shown the graded and cropped before lighting so it was a bit more of an apples to apples comparison. The controlled scene appears maybe a tad too dark, but I'm also wondering if that is partially because the before is overexposed?

Awesome breakdown on the lighting from the top end. back in that little corner of the bathroom and the outside the window light. i added so much depths to the scene. using the original lights that was above the over head and the sky light outside the room killed the image in every way lol (sn. did one of your cameras slide off the quick release plate? lol)

Love it, bud. Appreciate the process. When you hit the second position, I felt like just a tiny little bit of eye light would have helped her pop just a little bit. I’m not talking about 40s glamour or anything noticeable, her eyes being dark already, just seemed a little flat. What do you think? How might you have pulled that off? With what instrument/placement? Great content! Very real world, very useful.
@FilmSkills3 жыл бұрын
I couldn't, which is why I didn't add an eye light. Because of the mirror, there wasn't a way to position an eye light without either the light source being in frame or creating a shadow on the wall, which we would have seen because of the mirror. If you consider, that eye light would have to be a specular and focused light source at least 6 feet away, with a very narrow snoot so it didn't spill everywhere. This creates another problem in that the actress would need to walk into that spotted light, and it would have cast a shadow on the back wall. And most importantly, given the dark tones of the overall frame - possibly for a horror movie, the lack of eye light actually serves visual story of the shot.
