loved it. energy was perfect, narration was excellent. string of questions for you on how the narration came about. did you write it in pre production? did you write it at all, perhaps she wrote it? or maybe, is the narration a product of things happening organically on set? any chance it came together by accident in the edit? just trying to understand some more of your non visual approaches to commercial work.

3 questions. 1. Do you always(or nearly always shoot S-LOG2? 2. When you say 70%IRE, is that with the lut pre applied? 3. Does log change this at all for you (the whole overexposing log thing that everyone talks about)?
@markbone4 жыл бұрын
1. Always 2. 70% is before LUT 3. ETTR (Expose to the Right) is a good principal but I still protect the skin tones for 70% even if I'm doing that, but with better sensors on newer pro cameras you can afford to have the skin tone in a lower range but I would never push it past 75%

Awesome tips and work, Mark. Photographer here coming into the video world and have learned a ton from you, so thanks! On the LUTs, have you heard of the Leeming Luts? They are technical, not creative, and were created for specific profiles (i.e., Sony sLog, HLG, and CINE, as well as some Panasonic and others) back to an accurate picture of what the eye was seeing when recording. Anyway, Gerald Undone did a whole video about this and I found it super helpful for color accuracy when recording. (Different then your LUTs on set to see if you are getting what you desire for the final edited image, but maybe helpful nonetheless)✌

I still don’t understand how to properly color grade slog and all those flat profiles. What LUT are you using? I’ve seen multiple LUTS for slog at day/ night/ different weathers. But shouldn’t it really always be the same LUT, since it is converting the same way? Do you have recommendations for an slog LUT?
@markbone4 жыл бұрын
I think starting off with a standard LOG to REC709 LUT can be helpful in a pinch. If you’re designing it manually you have to really work the S-Curve and split toning and even the saturation (with Sony) to get the colours to pop
