How is this lens in terms of AF speed and sharpness at the corners vs middle? Is it sharp at f1.8? Iam thinking of getting a copy for Black Friday.

Hey McKay, everything was shot handheld on the Z6. The 24mm is wide enough of a focal length to hide a lot of the camera shake.

You can… I personally wouldn’t. It’s a very wide lens and will cause distortion to faces.

Hi Mitchell, Great question! I don’t use any Auto Focus while recording video. I auto or manual focus before hitting record, then maintain my subject to camera distance.

It’s 1080 upscaled to 4k. But KZbin compresses 4k files less (from research I’ve done) it will always look better than a 1080 file.

The focusing noises of these lenses is almost nonexistent. Not something I’d really even compare or think about.

Considering this for my z50 until I’m ready for my full frame upgrade. Those videos are amazing!!! I’m going to be doing video in both slow-mo and regular speed…. Is this going to be a huge issue without the VR? I’m not going to have my gimbal with me much of the time. How shaky will the video be?

Although the lens doesn't have image stabilization, I still love it. The Nikon (Nikkor) 24mm does not have IS either; most 24mm lenses won't have this feature. Slow-mo certainly will look a lot smoother in almost all cases, but a steady shot is really up to you.

I still haven’t tried the 85 yet myself. I’d recommend a wide: either 24 or 35.

If I’m shooting video, I’m manual focusing. I didn’t find the af to be very noisy with this lens. I can’t speak to other 3rd party lenses I haven’t reviewed.

@@RunNGunPhoto Hi and thanks for replay. Manual focus will do in most of situation I agree, problem is when following people that ar moving , or they go back and forth from the camera. I woud like to leave the camera do her job, as I am making photos with another one in the meantime.

I don’t own the Nikon 24mm f/1.8 Z. No lens that I’ve ever seen is waterproof.

I have both lenses and never had that issue. The camera is responsible for “reading” focus, not the lens.

Tough choice. How wide do you need to go? I like the build quality from Viltrox, so I imagine the 20mm is similar to the 24mm. 24 is a good focal length for vlogging and wide shots without distortion. I’m not sure if the distortion on the 20mm.

@@RunNGunPhoto I'm planine on doing astro with it and maybe a little bit of video. Since its manual focus ring is nice from what I've heard i believe it's not a bad choice for those cinematic manual focusing pulls
