Nikon has yet to make a camera with better dynamic range than the D810, the quality of the raw files still surpasses anything made by any brand, it is a camera for a photographer not for a video maker, and only those who are after the latest model You don't know that, until the D850 came out it was the queen camera. But there were many landscape and portrait photographers who decided to continue with it and even today it is a very capable camera.
@RunNGunPhoto17 сағат бұрын
Nikon uses Sony sensors these days, so I'm not sure who that really falls on. But you're right, the RAW files from the D810 are gorgeous when lit correctly!
@vitorguimaraes644316 сағат бұрын
@@RunNGunPhoto Despite being a Sony sensor, Sony itself has never managed to reproduce the same color science, in fact Sony's colors and dynamic range are a shadow of what Nikon can achieve.

I see it as a profesional spin to the old "torch light from below" scary light we all know. Perfect to make someone look dangerous. Which seems to be fine for Trump. Which is what I find inappropriate for a president, theirfor looking weird. Some similarities to Robert Richardsons table bounce light that can be found e.g. in the shot of Sam Jackson sitting at the table in Hateful 8 or Waltz Interrogation in the beginning of Inglorious basterds. On the positive side I think he looks determined. Thats the most unpolitical I can be, commenting this picture 😁

I Own D3, D3S and 2 D700’s. Sure they are worth it. It’s not the Camera it’s the photographer. You can get the latest cameras but these cameras photograph more like film. Today’s camera’s are to contrasty. I like to shoot straight jpg right out of the camera. To me slight adjustments are OK but a good photographer will out shoot someone who doesn’t understand light like us older guys who shot film. We couldn’t look at the back of the screen to see if the exposure was good. We are a dying breed.

It’s certainly a wild move to copy the mugshot. I’m looking forward to the little giggle I’ll have when I look at government building chain of command walls. As for the lighting, it does seem to be far to cinematic for a presidential photo. Perhaps this’ll be a new standard. Even JD Vance’s photo looks quite cinematic.

Everyone has a slightly different definition of "cinematic." I definitely think it looks hyper-realistic and far too edited. I hope it's not a new standard by any means.

I went looking through some old stuff recently and found I still had this exact camera hanging around in there, literally, still inside the carry bag, along with a bunch of old photos, most of them really poorly taken (too dark, motion blurred, etc) cause I took those pics when I was a kid just playing around with it XD The pics are from like 20 or so years ago for sure, at this point. I'm considering buying some film for it and seeing if I can manage some much better, crisper pics, now that I'm an adult and have much better experience with taking pics :) Perhaps for some special occasions to really give those pics that special feel to them like back in the 90s. (Well, for me, late 90s into early 00's, lol.)

I recently got a Nikon Zf and I'm looking to aquire a second backup body, that's affordable and takes my Z mount lenses. Honestly, I’m leaning towards the Nikon Z5, but with the recent price drops the Z6ii is not much more and is appealing also. Nearly everyone I've spoken to who actually owns a Z6ii (or Z5), LOVES it. I love my Zf, but I want something that will act as a more ergonomic and compact backup, with similar menus. I shoot portraits and headshots and an occasional family session or engagement. No events, sports or wildlife. I don't need speed, and I don’t plan on doing video with this backup. I played with a Z5 and a Z6ii in the camera store recently and they both felt really nimble and great to use. In use, I couldn’t really tell much difference between the Z5 and Z6ii. Both really nice. Would you recommend the Z6ii as a backup to my Zf? If I get the Z5 I can afford more glass, but maybe the better body is a wiser choice?
@RunNGunPhoto2 күн бұрын
I personally didn't think the Z6ii was enough of an upgrade from the original Z6 (which I love) to justify buying one. I'd recommend a Z6iii if you're looking for a bit of an upgrade from the Nikon Zf. But, I get that budget is a constraint. I'd so go Z5 if budget is your primary concern. It's still full frame 24MP!! Do let me know what you decide!

I just got one of these. I wanted small and light. I forgot they were metal. I haven't tried it yet its 99% humidity out. Ill have to bring something indoors to shoot. I didn't notice any glare when I was testing the lens, but everyone's experience with a lens varies. As with any lens, it's important not to shine your light source into it.

Encouraging. I want to get into photography, I also always wanted to do astrophotography, but my nikon super zoom compact has the worst noise imaginable and photos look like they have been taken by a phone. Probably because the sensor is 1/2.3 which is what most phones had around 6 to 7 years ago, now they're all sitting at 1/1.3 and the good ones at 1", but I digress. Could pick one of this bad boys up for 270 euros on mpb in good condition and an overkill for a beginner but definitely great for astrophotography 70-200mm L f4 IS for only 470 euros which is a lot but oh man does it look sweet. 740 euros total. A lot, maybe, but probably won't ever need to upgrade unless I somehow go pro.

Is the D810 still any good? Yes it is. Not sure what you’re quoting.
@Larken4221 күн бұрын
@ it was laconic attempt to question one’s ability to use the equipment to produce useful results. “Is the D810 still good” “Are you?” Implying are your skills still good enough to make it good, as efficiently as possible. It has been said before by any number of people that it’s never been what equipment you have, it’s how you use it. Your familiarity with the process can probably get results on gear twice the D810’s age. However the same rules of composition are just as applicable there as they were when everything was on film. So while technology has _definitely_ streamlined the process to get “the shot” it’s still entirely on the photographer to know how, when, and where to take the shot. TLDR: You can achieve more with less, or less with more. The difference is experience and judgement.
@RunNGunPhoto18 күн бұрын
100% Agree. And I touch on that in each of my camera reviews. What makes a camera "good" is the photographer. The Nikon D810 shines in the hands of a capable photographer!

@ as you indeed demonstrated. If I may make a recommendation to further the point, try and find a D200 to try out. It may be a dinosaur, but the CCD sensor and colour science in those bodies is top notch. It is my personal go-to B camera.
