@@chilecayenne KEH camera generally gives a decent price mark for those things. Or you could look at sold listings on ebay to get an idea for what you might expect to pay. Personally I wouldn't spend $100 usd on a 220 back, the $60 - $80 range is what I'd pay for them, though if you wait long enough you can find them for $50. @DixonLu 2 жыл бұрын
Sorry, not. Etkar is an ISO 100 photographic film, not a motion picture film with Remjet like Vision3 250D. They specifically claimed that "this new film is based on advanced technology found in motion picture emulsions". So if we take their words at face value, it is neither Ektar nor Vision3 250D. I'd like to see whether there'd be halation on the 4x5 since no motion picture film is available in that size. If it is 250D, we should be impressed that Cinestill can get Kodak to make a batch of 4x5.

I believe the ISO of Cinestill Film is higher than the Kodak Vision3 stock it comes from is not necessarily because of the RemJet, but primarily because of the differences of the ECN-2 vs C41 process. I remember seeing this somewhere on the APUG section of the Photrio forums. Edit: Analog Resurgence just did a video and mentioned this as one of the reasons why its rated at 800 ISO
@yetanotherbassdude
@yetanotherbassdude 2 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I think Ribsy has done some direct comparisons of developing 800T in both C41 and ECN2, and the C41 negs came out a lot denser for the same exposure settings and subject.

I hate those halations on daylight film. They look just like bad chromatic abberations. Might as well just shoot Silbersalz35 with true ECN-2 processing. It 's essentially the same film stock. Unless you develop your own film, it 's not that much more expensive since Silbersalz35 is covering both film development and HDR scan.
@johnjohnson5857

I believe it isn't the removal of the remjet layer that changes the iso/ei, but the fact that it's being cross processed in c-41 that makes it seem more light sensitive. I heard it also changes the latitude and more of brings the darker areas up a little more, so there's less dynamic range, as it effectively slides the lower end up to brighter. Idk if that makes much sense but it's my best explanation lol

I'm looking forward to getting my 120 and 35mm rolls, but thinking 120 might be better since the grain won't be as apparent. Have you shot Lomo 800? I'm pretty pleased with my results in 120. Can't really tell the difference between it and Portra 800 TBH. I have a roll of Lomo 400 in 120 in the fridge as well, but I hear it's more like Ultramax than Portra-ish. It's amazeballs to have all these choices, even if they are all really just Kodak in a different box. :P

So Cinestill is claiming it's not a motion picture film with the remjet removed but I'm assuming they're probably just trying to be misleading because they also said it's based on motion picture technology. So my guess is it's probably a special formula of 250D that they're ordering from Kodak. From what we know Cinestill is claiming that it has an antistatic coating instead of a remjet layer and honestly I wouldn't be surprised if they also switched the film base from acetate to ESTAR.
@GregoryVeizades

Portra 400 and 160 are based on the developments of Vision 3 movie film and Portra 800 is based on Vision 2 movie film. Which is why Portra 800 has a different grain structure and saturation level than the other two. So that part isnt misleading at all if it weren't cinestill.

You're right... removing the anti-halation layer doesn't do anything to sensitivity unless maybe you used a mirror as a film pressure plate? Vision3 250D, as a motion picture stock, is intended to be processed ECN-2. If you shot CS400D at original box speed and developed ECN-2, you'd get the flat motion picture negative. CInestill has you overexpose 2/3 a stop for processing in C-41 to create more contrast. Same goes for 500T / Cinestill 800T

No.1 CineStill has been getting uncut master rolls without the rem jet from Kodak for years. No.2 The rem yet removal does not increase speed whatsoever. How would it? It causes edge halation to increase not boost the entire red layer. The light hits the back of the film unfocused. Vision3 films like the CineStill films are meant to be developed in ECN2 chemicals and printed onto print film for final viewing. The print film looks a bit like slide film, it’s quite contrasty with about nine stops dynamic range max. So to compensate for that ECN2 developed movie film is flatter than C41 developed stills film. ECN2 creates a flatter contrast curve. Vice versa, C41 creates a more contrasty image. Which CineStill has takes as reason to call the film (at least 800T) slightly pushed. Which really is BS. In a stills process meant to be scanned by photo scanners or printed onto photo paper the native speed of 800T is still 500. I know that because I’ve shot a shit tone of 800T. With a lot of it in daylight. Both with an 85 filter and without one but then corrected for it during scanning. The digest of it is it’s clearly 500 ASA. C41 really screws 500T. It’s still got great colors but when developed in ECN2, it has at least as much dynamic range and finer grain than Portra 400, but in C41 it’s about as grainy as color plus and has about the same dynamic range as Ektar. So when you shoot 800T at 800 you’ll get underexposure characteristics, while shooting at 500 will give you a nice and dense neg without too much halation. I assume all the same applies to 400D as well. If it is indeed 250D. It just seems to be a bit less grainy since 250D is less grainy. But maybe it’s somehow a slightly different emulsion. Because they have been very clear how it is its own film. Although not clearly denying that it isn’t the emulsion from 250D just without a rem jet and a new anti static lubricant.

of course it is not a remjet removal, that make the film's box iso speed higher. the c41 process has higher temperatures than ecn process, by which cinema films are designed to be processed. therefore by using c41 we practically push the cinema films. this is why 500 becomes 800 iso, the light sensitivity itself is not affected. also, many people who use not cinestill but kodak vision films, remove remjet themselves as the last (or first) step of manual development. this by itself also does not affect light sensitivity. the temperature means push, therefore it is possible to shoot same film at higher iso settings.
