Montreal Rocks' Steve Gerrard catches up with Cinzia to chat about her new EP, Springland, her love of Janis Joplin and the Montreal and Toronto artists she thinks we all need to be paying attention to.
Cinzia & The Eclipse play Petit Campus on March 21 and the EP is released March 22.
Toronto-based singer-songwriter Cinzia & the Eclipse is over the moon to share her new single T-Shirt, a song that brings her and her listeners back to the folk roots she began her musical adventure with in 2019.
This song tells the story of letting go even when you don’t want to but because you have to. Cinzia wanted to paint the picture that moving on from someone doesn’t mean you can’t cherish the good moments that are now in the past. With nods to Taylor Swift's “Folklore” album and powerful lyricism familiar to Joni Mitchel Cinzia & The Eclipse really takes her listeners through scenes of love falling apart through T-Shirt.
About the song, Cinzia shares: " I really wanted to be a little playful with T-Shirt and tell a story of meeting someone and even though you may think they’re incredible they definitely have some personal work to do before they can ever let someone else be a part of their world. I think I was also watching a lot of Bridgerton when I brought this to the studio and wanted a song that people can sort of waltz around to!”
ABOUT CINZIA & THE ECLIPSE
Cinzia & The Eclipse first entered into the music scene in 2019. Drawing musical inspiration from artists like Julia Michaels and Florence and The Machine, her hometown of Montreal became her muse and the Little Italy EP was born soon after. With her vulnerable melodies and catchy choruses, Cinzia’s songs “No Matter” and “Runaway” got significant radio play and play listing resulting in a few million streams. These songs revealed that Cinzia’s music is multifaceted; she is just as skillful of making you jump out of your seat and dance, as she is breaking your heart.
Cinzia is once again working with long-time music co-conspirator and producer Lucas Liberatore (Ariane Moffat, Domeno, etc.) on her upcoming Springland EP. These two long-time friends and collaborators have always had a unique musical synergy (think Billie Eilish and Finneas), and this energy is strongly felt in Cinzia’s new music. Cinzia’s signature sound of blending hooky pop and acoustic, organic folk is now more refined and has even greater depth. Her vocal power rests in abundant mid-range sultry tones that play with phrasing and flutter like a butterfly but are also powerful and rich.
