I went to Italy eight years ago and we stayed in Florence for three days. Every morning my sister and I would be up WAY too early and we'd be downstairs waiting for breakfast. A woman came downstairs and we were just sitting there waiting (My sister was 6 and I was 8) for our family to wake up. She made us this hot chocolate, and we had it for the next two mornings we were in Florence. It was Heaven in a cup. I've always wondered what it was called, and until now I could never find out a recipe. Of course it's just hot chocolate, in Italian! I think I will make this for my family on a Sunday morning and surprise them. Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU Tastemade, not only did you bring me a great recipe, you brought back really fond memories of the greatest trip of my life. :)

@tuhreuhh11 жыл бұрын
i love the recipe, but if i just watched the video and didnt read the recipe in full i would have never known (from the video) that you need to mix it with hot water before serving...bc you show it served as is. I'm sure both ways are delicious!
@PhyskoaNarkaios11 жыл бұрын
You don't add hot water to the chocolate; you use it to warm the cup up before pouring in the chocolate. The directions say to pour hot water into mug, pour it out, and dry the mug.
@Thefreshp10 жыл бұрын
Beautifully presented. Yummy, just not sure about 1/2 and 1/2 and cornstarch. Why not just heavy cream and chocolate?
@tessalow853910 жыл бұрын
then that would just be a chocolate ganache, which is not a drink. the cornstarch just makes it thicker and the half and half is to make it richer. explains the food porn
@pattywoodard115310 жыл бұрын
I would think it would work, might make it too rich though using straight cream. You have very little to lose mixing chocolate and cream, it's got to taste good! lol To me, this recipe is a little to thick for my liking, more like chocolate pudding, but you can't go wrong no matter which way you eat/drink it.

I don't think I could drink this. Maybe dip some strawberries and cookies into it, but to drink an entire cup? I think I'd go into a sugar/chocolate coma for a month.
@RaeynaFicst11 жыл бұрын
the interesting bit is that there are only 2 tablespoons of sugar and 6oz of chocolate (dark chocolate, which won't have very much sugar) in the whole thing - to be split between 4 people. (so that's half a tablespoon of sugar in one mug - people do that much and more in their coffee). Yes, there's a bunch of cream, but it's the cornstarch that makes it thick. One can of soda-pop has 4 tablespoons of sugar. If you'd drink a can of soda with a meal, I don't see a problem with this. (Health-content-wise, I do recognize that maybe you just can't deal with large doses of heavy texture and taste).
@RaeynaFicst11 жыл бұрын
RaeynaFicst I'm not sure I worded that in the best way. I just mean to say that it's interesting to look at what the actual ingredients mean as a health choice (and I'm certainly not labeling this a healthy drink), and comparing it to other choices we and others make, separate from the tasting experience. Indulge in whatever way you like to most. And dipping cookies and fruit into this sounds divine.
@philaphobic11 жыл бұрын
This is more like chocolate pudding than pure melted chocolate.
@aztectemplar11 жыл бұрын
RaeynaFicst Totally agree with RaeyaFicst. This thing has barely 2 TBS of sugar plus Dark Chocolate which is actually healthy. Split into 4 people. I truly fail to see where the coma would come from.

Mother-Goddess on stilettos, this stuff is decadent. Just made a one-person batch and I think I need some Alone Time after I finish it; it's that amazing. One thing to remember if you're an American: The '4 servings' made are Italian-style demitasse cups, just a tad more than 1/2 cup total and nowhere near the hefty coffeemugs of those of us in the U.S.-- and a good thing, too, because I'm not certain I could manage a full mug! It's like the creamiest, darkest of warm chocolate puddings with just a little less stiffness. Worth the trouble, believe me!

Half and half is half light cream and half milk. Many people like to put it in their coffee instead of full cream for the lower fat content. You can find it in pints or half-gallons at the grocery store, or just mix equal parts cream/milk. In the non-US, it's sometimes called "half cream."
