its been my experience that Muslims look forward to Ramadan just for the food. Breakfast is not a big event but its the breaking of the fast. There are countless "Iftar" parties where the faithful will rip into the food like wild dogs over a kill. They have a built up apatite and its binge eating. Food prices sky rocket before ramadan, weight gain always follows ramadan. The only sufferers are the women folk who prepare the food. Ramadan is the least productive month in Muslim countries.

So their ancestors must have previously used a solar calendar. Agrarian cultures need a solar culture to know when to reliably plant seeds, but a nomadic culture (e.g., Bedouin) does not.
