1) Do NOT (seriously don't) crush on straight guys. 2) If you're still in the closet, DO NOT (I mean seriously don't) date someone out of the closet. 3) DO NOT let stupid people get you down. Seriously, when was the last time you saw a highly intelligent homophobe? I think never! Nobody has time for stupid people, so don't waste your thoughts and emotions on them. 4) DO NOT rush into bed with your first boyfriend. You WILL (seriously you will) regret it. I could probably go on but meh...

As someone who's the first to come out in my grade in high school (sophomore year) people didn't care at all. I still crush on straight boys because there aren't any cute gays at my school. I casually hit on them too, and the response is usually laughter or them being super uncomfortable. I think most of the guys know that if they display any type of homophobic behavior that i will turn every girl against them, mostly because im really go friends with the so-called "popular girls". I hear almost everything about every guy so people look at me as more of a person to talk to about issues since im a generally chill and open-minded person.

I came out as bi about a year or two ago, and I had this one friend who I spoke to loads. He not only ditched me but also trash talked me behind my back. A lot of my friends are okay with it, only recently have I actually discovered I'm fully gay. If your friends can't accept you for who you are, they're not true friends. The ones who stick around though, they are the ones you should hold onto.

I feel really horrible because my life is so easy compared to others. I came out to my sister, and parents, when I was 13. They all didn't care, and nothing changed. Sometime after that (a year ago I believe) I came out to basically all my facebook friends (which included some family that I didn't tell), and they are all okay with it as well. I already have my first boyfriend, and I'm only a sophomore. I have it so easy, and yet I still freak out about dumb things, like people at school judging me for being who I am...

Came up on this thru FB/Huffpost Gay Voices, very impressed and glad that a) young gay people like you are able to come out and be happy, and b) that you're helping other people have the same or better experience. Before we know it, being gay is going to be a complete non-issue and you should be really proud of your contribution to making that a reality.

This is such a wonderful outreach, David! Thank you for taking care of those that follow in your footsteps...you're probably a born leader and mentor. Regarding "straight boys", I personally think it is ok to acknowledge (to yourself) when you find yourself having feelings for someone, and that the main thing is to try to put it in perspective, and not create too much drama liking someone who "can't" like you back. Also, many HS boys might still be unsure and discovering their attractions.

lighting tip: try wrapping a white rope light several times around the perimeter of your computer screen to encircle your face with soft light to give a most flattering look to your face... and use other lamps on both sides that have white shades to soften the light. The more soft lights all around in all directions in front of you the better. A room bathed in soft light is the most flattering.

hi, im 13, i had come out to my mom, but i dont think ill ever be able to tell my sister, its just too weird and because coming out to her means i would have to come out to all my familly and i just dont know of they will ever look at me the same way as before, and my mom said to me im too young to be sure but she will love me no mather what my mother is just afraid of the danger of what homophobic people might try to do if im actually gay, and i also dont have the gay 'stereotypes', but im sure im gay because when i look at a girl it just doesnt feel 'interesting', when i see a boy i think in so many thing i could make with him(i took out that detail from my mom lol)...and its also really hard to be in school hiding this secret, im afraid of telling someone because they might spread the secret (i failed a year and got new friends but i still dont know if i can fully trust them)

PREACH!!! Yes! You basically summarize all the challenges and mistakes I made in high school. I know we all wish to be with someone and tend to find ways to find a guy but in the end, it just comes down how patient you are. Though it sucks waiting, it will be worth it in the end. About Grindr, Skout, Boyahoy, etc. I say don't be so attach to it. It is good to chat with people there, but it is way better meeting people in person and hanging out.

You-and your video- are fantastic. I wish I had had it handy while I was a teacher! I taught middle school for twenty-eight years, and my passion until I retired a year ago was to fight homophobia. Your message is worth listening to by gay and especially by straight kids alike, and also by teachers, parents, everyone! I wish the best for you.

I thought I was gay, but because of such a long life story I wasn't sure whether this would wash down with my family honour and prestige and pride at school. How would it look? What would people say? How can I mimic what is right? The reputable nature of people was prominence - it is important for people to feel comfortable to be themselves. I still am not sure about my sexuality. It is still a big issue amongst young people and supposedly, we live in an equal world, huh?

You're a smart guy and your video offers very good advice for young gay guys. It's normal to have crushes when you're in school, but it's problematic if it's on a same-sex person. It's totally okay for a person to acknowledge the feelings they have for someone and then _let it go_.

I think that it is difficult being accepted as a gay or lesbian in high school depending on what type of school you go to, my mother put in a all boys catholic school and it's just really hard to fit in when everyone judges your sexuality. I wouldn't blame my mother either because she wants the best for me and I guess there is nothing wrong with that, it's just not the same especially with all the stereotypes you have to go through... It's just difficult to fit in...

It was my experience and I can almost guarantee with 100% certainty that once you leave high school you will never see the people that you knew in that period of your life ever again . Unfortunately that may also include friends that you thought would be yours for life. Entering adulthood scatters always scatters people to the four winds. Different colleges different locations, marriage, children. It all conspires to end what you thought were long term relationships.

He hasn't talked to me in months.. I still want to talk to him, but I don't know how to start a conversation after all that happened. Help?

Unless you have REAL scientific evidence and can back up your claim with a reference (so-called testimonials and "what people say happened to them is not good enough) and you can disprove your argument don't expect any reasonable person to believe you. FYI, that's an old argument that you used. Psychologists agree that molestation or previous experiences can't dictate your sexual orientation. Want proof?

Im in high school and im not out and idk if i will confess to even my closest friends anytime soon. Ig my biggest reason is i swim and run track at school and dont want to risk the drama. Btw i just turned 15 in may so idk if i can deal with confessing or coming out rn but thanks for ur channel, it gives me hope but seeing some of the hate in a few comments here, im glad to keep my closet space for rn.

Im usually telling myself to wait until im like 18 or so to come out, but i cant stop thinking about this topic, whenever i have some time one of my first thoughts is about this topic in general. Also, for now im pretty sure im gay but im very paranoid and i sometimes ask myself "What if its just a phase (even though I wish it wasnt)?" and all that.Sorry for the very long comment but i really wanted to talk with someone about this.

Hi I am doing research on the gay community for a diversity class. May I ask you if you had any guidance counselors or people that tried to say that being gay was a choice you made and just choose to like girls? If so, how did you handle bullying from adults? Thank you for any info. Denise.

I knew when I was about 10-ish, summer of 5th grade, but if you were looking at me 3rd person, you could obviously see some things I did as a child (3-10) that indicated that I was different...

David, god you look SO young here!!!! It was only 2 years ago and looks like you have started your beard maybe. I view on my phone as my laptop was stolen. I for one LOVED this video about being gay in high school. I went to high school in a very conservative area so coming out or being different was looked down on!!! Also got you picked on, beat up or beat down, and your shit stolen. I take great comfort in hearing how your high school was more liberal. Unfortunately your middle school

Great video - this is wonderful advice for gay teens. And yes kids, stay away from adult hookup/dating apps or sites- they are definitely a no go territory.

I realised I was gay at the start of this year, this is what I did. When you're sure, just wait until you feel confident enough to tell your closest friend(s). Your confidence will go up and down, sometimes you just need to take that little scary jump. If you're anything like me, you'll get annoyed that you're taking so long 😆 Then gradually come out to closer friends when you feel up to it. Eventually you'll surprise yourself and come out to the rest of your friends. It can be scary, but it's so, so worth it. You'll be happier and more comfortable around them! Finally there's the coming out to the family. I'll be honest I haven't done this yet, but it's all about finding the right time when you're comfortable with it. Obviously tweak all this stuff to yourself - this is basically my story 😂

I know most teens nowadays say they’re this and that but I’m actually gay, no fancy pronouns or changed gender, an actual gay person. I’m going to start high school in August. I’m in 8th grade and I’m homeschooled because I was expelled. Right now, things are really hard. I want friends, and I want someone to love me. I know I shouldn’t worry about it but it’s so hard. I’m miserable. Every where I go I get reminded how I’m a lonely pathetic loser.

I wish there were guys like this in my high school. If there were I might have actually come out then instead of waiting for so long. I was 20 years old before I could no longer deny it. I had no idea how relieved I would be after finally saying it. I was actually experiencing physical manifestations of the stress (difficulty breathing, high blood pressure...). After telling my closest friend at the time (he was also a huge straight boy crush of mine... oops) everything got better.

I'm the only one gay guy at my college. It's very difficult, first of all because I live in Russia. A lot of people around know about me. But there are so mush stereotypes connected with gay guys. I'm trying to be kind and not to fright them. Your advise to focuse on studying is very usefull and I'm trying to follow that.
