This is by far the best video of this technique I've seen to date. Thank you.

@@saschawilliams1 you are most welcome sir. KZbin is kind of a Clown Car for American Kenpo… you present perhaps the best information online. I hope to work with you in person some day. As you know, I’m also a fan of your polite and prides demeanor. 😎

Master Williams. Please know how important your work is to some of us. I read the inaccurate claim made by Sifu Cole. I was pretty sure he was wrong, and also that there never was a 1989 version that was written by Ed Parker. But without your history and resources there is no way I could have convinced anybody. I'm sure whoever Sifu Cole is meant well, but his comment is misleading and damaging to Ed Parker's art. Thank you for setting the record straight. There are some of us who rely on that.

no there was not a "1989" version of the manual...but in the 2.0 version of manual, do you know who's writing is in the margins? also the technique calls for in upward/outward/overhead parry much like we already have learned in Circles of Protection as taught in 1989/1990 by the person who's handwriting is in the margin of the 2.0 manual.

Those "Version 2" manuals were not published by Mr. Parker. Same with "Version 3". Mr. Parker's manuals did not have a "notes" section, with lines, close to the outer margin of the page. If you have any of them, look at the copyright reference at the bottom of the page. Does it say "Copyright 1992 Ed Parker Jr."? That tells you immediately that these are not the original manuals. Those were an attempt by three of Mr. Parker's blackbelts to take over Mr. Parker's system, shortly after Mr. Parker passed away. They had gotten together with Edmund, as they were all friends, and tried to claim Mr. Parker's name, since Edmund had the same name as his father. They attempted to take control of Mr. Parker's system, calling their new group "Ed Parker Kenpo System" (if I remember correctly), and printed their own manuals, albeit slightly altered. Mrs. Parker had no choice but to use her attorney to put a stop to all that, in order to protect the IKKA and Mr. Parker's original, copyrighted materials. She succeeded. So, those handwritten notes could be anybody's EXCEPT Mr. Parker's. He had obviously passed away before any of this happened. And no, Mr. Parker did not write this technique with an upward/outward/overhead parry. He wrote it with a "right upward/right extended outward block". In "big red" (Mr. Parker's previous manuals) he had referred to it as a "right extended outward overhead block" , but then changed the wording to "right upward/right extended outward block" in the 1987 (final) journals. You are correct, however, regarding Circles of Protection being a "right upward parry", since this technique is against a different attack. Circles of Protection is against an overhead punch, while Circling Windmills is against a straight punch. After Mr. Parker passed, Mrs. Parker granted me full access to his computers, together with Galu Tafua, his son in law. So I'm not just guessing or speculating here.

Upward overhead parry as the step through punch comes at you. 1989

Not according to Ed Parker. Here's the excerpt from his journal: "Your opponent then steps forward with his right foot and delivers a straight punch toward your head. When this occurs have your left foot step forward (toward 11:00 o'clock) into a left Neutral Bow (facing 12:00 o'clock) as you deliver a combination right upward/right extended outward block to the outside of your opponent's right arm. Make sure that this block is executed slightly upward, on the outside, as well as under your opponent's right arm. Simultaneous with this block execute a left heel palm strike (with your fingers facing in) to your opponent's solar plexus."
