@@rot_studios ok, will now try typing it once again, this time in short. as for the mods, another obvious one would be to control sustain\decay caps discharge like it's made in some related electones. another thought is that probably your external modulator shows queer behaviour because you modulate your external clock directly with it's square (or what ever) wave. probably it would be much better to utilize the native conditioning (or what ever) circuit from between the VIB output pin and the internal clock gen.

So cool! When you take the box off does it function normally? I got one of these at goodwill for $3 and would like to attempt this. I also just bought a 2nd one off ebay haha. With that one I would like to try and drastically modifiy it as you said you were thinking of doing. Make it as close as I can to a synth with cs01 type controls.

There are many more hacky points on there. Have fun! It's a great little synth in there! I'm still planning on buying a second one and replacing the main control chip with a custom Atmega based PCB, for more fun :D

@@rot_studios I am very new to all this. I can solder and follow directions well at this point basically. What benefits would you get from the stock ps-3 hardware if you replaced the sound generating chip with the atmega? I am guessing the atmega will give you more variety in waveforms? would that atmega handle the key assignments or just the sound generation?

@@jamesgphoto (late reply sorry) The atmega would have to handle the keyboard input and most of the front panel stuff, but using a chip like the Atmega32 that should be no problem. You can then indeed generate all sorts of custom waveforms and could even generate CV for the filter and such.

Hi there great mod especially the drums ! Just a little question, is the PS3 all analog like the PS1 ? I’ve read somewhere that the filters are digital I’m planning a full analog setup for a project that will go through tape that’s why I’m searching an all analog portasound Thanks Tcheeers !

It's analog yes, but the oscillators are all square waves so you could argue thats more digital. They layer two octaves at various amplitudes to create the crude waveshapes/timbres. The filter and vca are the real deal though and have been used in some of their very expensive analog synths :)

Well basic soldering skills are needed, other than that it's not much more than removing a resistor and attaching some wires to whatever you want to use to control for example the cutoff (can be variable resistor (knob) or a light dependant resistor, anything :P). Obviously the clock control is a little more involved but is still simple. What are you most interested in doing first?

We made a whole album using this very organ synth along with moog prodigy for bass, ELKA for strings and some Yamaha CS-80 that we had borrowed for a song or two back in 1983 as Proxies Groovin over Beirut (kzbin.info/www/bejne/qZfQn5qBgJenhJY). Loved this and still do although not having one anymore...
