Rouen is one of the most dangerous and fun tracks to drive, its incredibly underrated

5:38: Nearly nothing left of the old track... So sad. Nice impressions from the abandon track. Thanks for uploading. Greetings Peter

Yes it's a pity they destroyed the permanent part. The small piece they left looks now like a junk yard.

Unbelievable. See that film of recent Mercedes F1 Champion, Nick Rosberg, Hamilton's teamate, Nico father, Keke Rosberg made his reputation here in F2 duels with Pironi, Arnoux, Tambay, Eddie Cheever and Danny Sullivan, Giacomelli. The duel of Keke Rosberg here in 77 & 78 with Eddie Cheever and at Nurburgring again in 77/8 really established Keke's reputation. The run at Rouen is essentially downhill , with the equivalent of 6 Rouge on the rise at Spa, instead descending thru 6 equivalent corners, sliding, touching and dabbing reducing from say 190mph to 170mph. Nothing like it really and in 1977 Arnoux and Tambay went off on the first down hall plunge. That meant that 1978 was the last race here for F2 cars which in 77 were 2 litre straight racing engines up 6/cylinders, Ferrari or Renault V6 up to 340hp or BMW or Ford 4 cylinder. The Renault and various BMW sponsored teams probably, better financed than than half the F1 teams and at this times Rouen F2 race was the greatest race on earth , rather than Indy, Monaco or Le Mans. The real film stars and fans went to this race. And as Fangio said when, he went to Rouen on his only visit, in 1957. Seeing the track , he said I will win, I have the Championship, no one will touch me, here.

Thanks for the inspiration Herman. I took my daughter to see it on the way back from the Citroën Centenary in Ferte la Vidame. Very little to see. We had a picnic lunch parked up in the chicane. I think the curbs on the exit of the chicane at 1:55 are possibly original as they have a much lower profile than the regular road curbs.

I also think there are original kerbstones of the track. Actually the chicane was a short permanent section of the street circuit.

Fantastic, thanks again, Herman. I love the track in Project Cars, too.

Yeah it was a great circuit. Very sad it didn't survive the modern time. Would be the same if they closed Spa-Francorchamps...

Great Video! I thought the track was closed much earlier. Do you know what classes raced here after Formula 1 left?

Yes there is a resemblance to Spa, the reconstructed Spa being more like Clermont. While the long, orginal Nurburgring has a more daunting reputation, it was learnable as Phil Hill said and as tyro like Jacky Ickx showed in 1967 when in as 1.6 F2 car he matched the speed of all the F1 runners in a combined F1/2 world championship race, other than Clark and Gurney, who had 400hp cf 350 hp of the other championship contenders. A lot of laps and fearlessness could make you quick at Nurburgring like Stefan Bellof .and it probably fortunate that Villeneuve and Senna never ran their, I would have given them 12 laps, before they had a huge shunt. The differential between the entrants in F2 at Rouen was always great while in F2 at Nurburgring they were inclined to finish close together. Clearly the French circuit really showed the fans and good looking chicks who were the real drivers.
